It's raining, it's pouring, the old dog is snoring...

Word of the day: haboob. It is the Arabic word for dust storm. Made me giggle. Yes, I am 6.

haha Tina. I watched that show an idiot abroad last night and the guy was standing in a haboob! (while he was looking at the egyptian pyramids)

Busy day today. There just isn't enough time in the day to accomplish everything on the to do list.

The rain is going to create poop soup on layer 3!!

Three inches of heavy wet snow overnight, but it is melting fast .  Lugnut learned how to swim last night.  

He wasn't sure if he liked it, but the snow was getting heavy so we drove home.  He did sleep well last night.

I think he will enjoy it more in a lake or pond, where the entry is gradual.  He kept standing on the edge, crouching like he was ready to launch, then backed off.  But he is clean smelling this morning.

Doug, those are great pics!  Looks like he took to the water pretty well.  Is that a special dog training place that has a pool, or does your local public pool have a "doggy swim" time?  The only place with a pool for dogs here is used for canine therapy only, not recreational water activities.

Tina, did you change the lyric of your rain song to "old dog" on purpose, or is that how you learned it?  My Mom taught us "the old MAN is snoring," but I like the dog version better!

Haboob -- that is funny!  

Julie, I loved "An Idiot Abroad."  Have you seen Karl's new show, "The Moaning of Life?"  It's kind of a documentary-style, and it's only a few episodes.  No Ricky Gervais or Steve Merchant in this one -- but it's all Karl in his usual glory.  Actually even funnier because he's just exploring these "life questions" in foreign settings, on his terms, without Ricky and Steve forcing him to do things just to make him miserable.

I've got a meeting today that is being held at my favorite pasta place.  I'm looking forward to the tasty lunch I'll eat, but I'm not looking forward to the work it'll take to fight off the nap I'll want to take at my desk after I get back!

Very nice pics Doug!  The training you're doing with Lugnut is wonderful; it will do a lot to boost his confidence. Will you be hunting with him? Many years ago, my sister bred and showed Springers.

 The first time I heard the word haboob is when we had one here in Indiana. It was weird; the sky turned black like when you're going to have a storm but it was a huge dust cloud. It was very unusual for our area and we haven't had another one since then. The next few days won't be bad with highs around 50 but it's going to be in the 30's again next week. Our normal high this time of year is in the 50's but it looks like we're going to have a cold spring.

 DH and I are driving about an hour north tomorrow to see this cute guy;

 I'm excited and hope he's the One, but whatever happens I'll let you know how things go. We started feeling like we were ready for another dog about a week ago and are really looking forward to having another one in our lives.

We have a place in Mankato called The Paw.  Daycare, boarding, training, with a therapy pool and treadmill and a regular pool for dogs.  Outdoor areas with high fences and all season carpeting, and 24 hour cameras to watch your beasties while others care for them.  They did it right, and the training is a system I can work with.  Need to get Guns signed up for real training now.

This dog should hunt.  I figure I have a few more good years, then he and I can crumble into worn out bodies together.  In the mean time, he is good natured, funny, and fun.  And is passing gas right now, so he is going out for a bit.

I changed it on purpose. GingerD snores big-time. Buddy did, too. I used to sing to him that the old cat was snoring.  I also talk to myself at times.

Doug, as always, love the pictures.  The ones of Piper are especially sweet.

Doug, that training place sounds amazing.  And those photos of Piper and the pup are special, for sure.

Janice, Ranger looks like a cutie-pie!  I like his markings -- I'm partial to black and brown colorings on dogs.  I hope the meeting goes well tomorrow.  Keep us posted!

My lunch meeting was the committee that works on procuring auction items for our shelter's annual fundraiser.  I've been on it for years, and I always feel like we can't come up with any more unique ideas, but every year I'm surprised.  Some fun packages were brainstormed today, including a "pet bereavement" package, which will include such things as a Tibetan prayer flag for pets, an engraved brick in the shelter's memorial garden walkway, a mother-of-pearl urn for pet remains, and a tattoo of your pet's image (or whatever you'd like as a remembrance).  

I found a tattoo artist to donate the latter -- did you know that they can mix some of the ashes in the tattoo ink so it's part of the final image?  I'm not a tattoo person myself, but for someone who is, I think that's pretty cool.  No one else on the committee had heard of that either.
