    Monday morning blues

The wind is blowing, it is snowing, the driveway is drifting shut. The monster is growing. He can now stand on his hind legs and look over the gate. He does this after he finishes his meal (about 5 seconds) and he realizes that Piper still has food. I think Piper walks away a few times to tease Gunther. He gets near her food, and it gets loud. Hit the WMA yesterday. Piper actually ran for a ways. Then we left the parking lot, and were about knee deep. There was a little crust about 6"down, so Gunther could run. Until he ran out of crust. Nice imitation of a submarine diving. Wife had her binos for bird watching-hoping to spot a Snowy Owl. No luck on the owl, but did spot some Robins who really wished they had gone a little farther south. Really glad I fixed the snowblower before all this hit.

Heavens, I wish winter would END.  And, I keep telling myself we've not had it nearly as rough as some other places, but that no longer helps......not when a very large chunk of the weekend was devoted to unearthing the driveway and breaking through 6 inches of ice under the snow.

But, the sun is shining today, so hopefully some melting will happen.  If nothing else, I'll enjoy having sunshine.  Been awhile.

Unlike most of the world, we don't get a long weekend, so off to get ready.

Wishing everyone a warm and dry day.

Good morning all. I wish I had off today, maybe not cause I think I would just shovel...ugh we got more snow on Saturday and they are calling for a few more inches tonight I'm running out of room. But like Glenmar said at least the sun is shining. Actually had a pretty fun weekend, was finally able to get out of the house Saturday and Sunday. Got a lot done around the house. Have a good safe day everyone....stay warm.

The weekend went by at warp speed! No fair.

I am going to hit up the Redwing shoe store today and spend roughly $200 on winter boots. Why do they have to be so expensive? I am sick and tired of my feet freezing though. I've had the same boots for going on 5 years now so I guess it's time. I'm desperate.

I am also going to moose jaw to check out snow shoe rentals. Going to need them for search camp weekend. The snow is knee deep here and camp I located in Michigan's snow belt (why why why they picked this location for winter camp is beyond me!) so there is likely 4 ft of snow on the ground. Actually according to the snow maps there is 3-4 ft of snow. I wonder of they make snow shoes for dogs.

I also need to do laundry, clean the house, blah blah blah. And watch downton abbey since I chose to watch the walking dead instead last night. Love that show!

I hate that you guys are still getting snow and freezing temps. We are finally getting some sun although it has been very windy. I actually was able to fire up the grill yesterday and made grilled shrimp for hubby...it is one of his favorite meals and close to all I know how to grill, lol. He has been the "grill man" up til summer before last. He started showing me some of his tricks but he never tried shrimp that is my speciality. Doug I was getting the biggest kick outta your description of the Spawn of Loki....lol, poor sweet puppy. I could tell that you are pleased with his progress so far and he is such a cutie especially the flying ears pic. Did I hear someone mention the Maid Fairy? I need the whole team! I would be so grateful if someone got me that team for my birthday.... :) Hint, hint...it's still several months away. My granddaughter called me this morning to thank me for her Valentines Card. She has had a really bad cold and was still a little sniffle-y. What a great way to start my workweek. She is 6 and it just makes my day when she calls. Actually it makes my day when any of my grandkids call. Jackie, I am having trouble with the Shelter thing, how could that be considered okay to do?

I know many of you are beyond sick and tired of the snow, but please enjoy some of that sunshine on my behalf!

We've had days of really heavy rain (lots of flood warnings) and very high winds.  Last night I couldn't sleep because it was howling so loud, and I could hear little twigs and leaves and stuff hitting our windows.  Ruby even sat up a couple times during the night.  Knowing there are fir trees 2-3 times as high as a 2-story house in our neighbors' backyard also kept me awake.  The ground is so saturated that this is when trees fall.  One fell on a car this morning on a highway just east of town.  The driver was hospitalized.

Julie, the price of good boots can be outrageous.  DH buys very expensive work boots because of his job, and it hurts to pay for them.  But the accountant in me will give you the rationalization I use for his boots:  If you got 5 years of wear out of them, then that's only $40 a year.  Small price to pay for warm, dry tootsies!

Good boots are an investment.  Comfort and wear seem tied to price.  I have a pair of Sorrels bought many years ago.  The are still my go-to boots for cold weather.  Tried cheap work boots.  My feet hurt, wore them out quickly.  The Carhartt boots I really liked had just about every feature I wanted.  Made in China by Redwing Boot for Carhartt.  Apparently they lasted to well.  The last time I looked, they were listed as a best seller and no longer available.

If the boots are required for work, they should be tax deductible.  Still hurts to pay for.

The little snot weighed in at 24 lbs.  Growing faster than a teenager.  Fortunately, he goes barefoot.

Don't even get me started on buying shoes or boots. For me, it sucks worse than shopping for a bathing suit. And I haven't owned a bathing suit in 20 + years. Tongue Tied

Hello, just really tired of snow....that's all today. Hope you all are surviving this weather.

I'm sorry so many of you are having such crummy weather.  You can read between the lines to figure out how it is here. lol

Doug, the devil pup is growing fast!  So funny how you describe his antics. :)

I've been wishing I could get this old Chocolate Lab out of a rescue up in PA.  I know it's stupid since we have tons of desperate dogs right here in town.  There's something about this old guys face that just haunts me.  He is in a foster home so at least he's not in a shelter.

OK, back to pretending to work.

Good point about the $40 per year! Thank you. And yeah, you can't go cheap unfortunately. I bought a pair of Irish setters. They have 2000g of thinsulate. So I am ready for the artic! I am a bit concerned they might be too warm so they said I could try them out for the next week or so and if I don't like them I can return them. This store has great customer service. I bought my work boots from them too. Anyway, I have already been tromping around in the snow and my toes were toasty warm, but not sweaty warm so that's a good sign. I get to write them off too since I use them for sar. Bonus. Doing my taxes this year I was floored by the amount of money I spend on sar. Seriously! It's nicer to be oblivious sometimes lol

hmm no snow here today and it's going to warm up nicely this week. I hate buying shoes of any sort. None fit. Period. Doug you are not helping my puppy fever. I sooooooooooooo want a pup, but know I shouldn't because I don't have much time at the moment. That's about it.

Jackie, where is the old Lab in PA?
