    Valentine's Day chat 2014

    TGIF.

That's all I've got for now.

Agreed, and Happy Valentine's Day to all.

Mother nature dumped several more inches of snow on us overnight, mixed with sleet and freezing rain, so it's just a joy to shovel.  The foot of the driveway....from the street to the sidewalk, took 3 of us 45 minutes to clear.  Oh well, good cardio I guess!

Off to work.  Have a great day everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day! We got slammed with snow too, I post a pic on here of my backyard. Hope you all are safe and warm.

Happy Valentine's Day to all furr babies and humans! I am so sorry that you guys got snow dumped on you. Hey Glenda...are you the only person in the area that is going to work today? I had heard that everything but snow plows were shut down We have a bit of rain but thank goodness it is warmer. I ordered my hubby's favorite coffee as a gift for BDay/Valentine Day. The coffee didn't show up yet so I took a picture from the website and put it in a new coffee cup, lol. It will be interesting to see if he reads the note or if he just thinks I was being a smart a-double S. Ha! Wish I would have thought of it sooner but I didn't, could have saved the cost of the coffee and just told him it was a e-gift, lol. Have a great day all, stay safe and warm.

sigh, been a long few days. The storm hit us hard ice and snow and snow and ice. About 6 inches of layers  out there. Very treacherous to navigate. Poor Bugsy is fairly confused why some places he cracks the ice and sinks in and then other places he is sliding along the top. I wind up nauseous watching my dog who cannot move slowly (apparently) and who has three repaired joints trying to do his normal stuff.

Good news is the sun is shining today and loads of melting will occur. We lost power for 12 hours yesterday and it was soooooooooooo cold in the house!. I was a nervous wreck when B & I went out yesterday as the pine trees were laden with ice and major branches were snapping and falling. Especially in the early morning you could hear the trees snapping from a good distance away. We lost some significant branches but not a tree so that's good.

I am happy to be working from home again - unfortunately the cold/sore throat I have been battling is winning today so going back to bed is a real likelihood

Happy Valentine's day all - I attached a picture of Bugsy with his first love

Can I join  in all the winter woefunkary? My roof is leaking from the massive ice dam that formed in my gutters. There's almost a foot of ice piled up which is causing all the melt to run inside the house. Yay for sucky winters all around

Guess I will be going to home Depot here soon.

Julie, I'm sorry your roof is leaking.  I'd have never even thought about that happening.  I guess it's one more wonderful gift that Winter brings to those in the North. :(

Are all the American snowboarders stoners?  I swear they're the happiest and goofiest bunch of athletes, win or lose. :)

Lake Superior is freezing over.  As "Minnesota" is a loose translation of "Niflheim", the Viking name for Hell, the coldest of the nine worlds of Norse mythology, it just seems to follow.

Some of you probably are unaware of how MN came to have so many Norwegians.  The family history of the well known Ole and Lena family explains it well:

It seems that some centuries ago, many Norwegians came to Ireland to escape the bitterness of the Norwegian winter. Ireland was having a famine at the time, and food was scarce. The Norwegians were eating almost all the fish caught in the area, leaving the Irish with nothing to eat but potatoes.

St. Patrick, taking matters into his own hands, as most Irishmen do, decided the Norwegians had to go. Secretly, he organized the Irish IRATRION (Irish Republican Army to Rid Ireland of Norwegians) Irish members of IRATRION passed a law in Ireland that prohibited merchants from selling ice boxes or ice to the Norwegians, in hopes that their fish would spoil. This would force the Norwegians to flee to a colder climate where their fish would keep. Well, the fish spoiled, all right, but the Norwegians, as everyone knows today, thrive on spoiled fish.

So, faced with failure, the desperate Irishmen sneaked into the Norwegian fish storage caves in the dead of night and sprinkled the rotten fish with lye, hoping to poison the Norwegian invaders. But, as everyone knows, the Norwegians thought this only added to the flavor of the fish. They liked it so much they decided to call it “lutefisk”, which is Norwegian for “luscious fish”. Matters became even worse for the Irishmen when theNorwegians started taking over the Irish potato crop and making something called “lefse”.

Poor St. Patrick was at his wit’s end, and finally on March 17th, he blew his top and told all the Norwegians to “GO TO HELL”. So they all got in their boats and emigrated to Minnesota or the Dakotas —- the only other paradise on earth where smelly fish, old potatoes and plenty of cold weather can be found in abundance.
    The End.

Here, we have a very nice weather. At most, a little drizzling , but the last few weeks were sunny.

    Happy Valentine's Day, Everybody!

Here's a little something from me and Bambi

    Bambi is a cutie!

Karen, you've been on my mind all week.  I've been wondering how you've been faring, hoping you were able to stay home and that you didn't get stranded at your office or something.  I know what you mean about watching Bugsy navigate the ice.  Watching Ruby slip and slide in the slushy/icy crap we had on Monday made me nervous, and she hasn't had surgeries like Bugsy!

Julie, that totally stinks about your roof leak.  Hopefully you can get it taken care of without any major water damage to anything.

Speaking of water damage, with the major increase in temps here after our "big" snowfall last weekend, we had major melting, followed by a ton of rain all week.  There are now flood warnings throughout the valley.  The road my office is on ends near the riverfront, and when I drove in this morning, they had the end of the road totally blocked off with High Water signs.

Jackie, I've wondered the same thing about snowboarders.  They definitely have that stoner vibe going on.  Kind of like surfers, which I guess are basically the same thing but on a different surface!  Wink

I'm wearing a red sweater and heart shaped earrings, but that's the extent of my Valentine's efforts.  We don't make a big deal of it at our house.  We won't be going out to the crowded restaurants tonight.  My goal is to get Thai take-out or pizza.  I'm very easy to please!

    • Gold Top Dog

Tracy we could be twinkies, I have on my Pink T and Pink heart shaped earrings :)   We don't make Valentines a big deal but mostly cause hubby's birthday is the 10th so we usually celebrate that instead.  Ok I mentioned the coffee cup with a picture of his favorite coffee, well when he got up he called, said Happy V Day  thanks for the V Day Card.  He never even saw the cup with the picture.  LOL, the card was leaning against the cup.

    • Gold Top Dog

Ginger, whenever I wear these earrings on Valentine's Day, I remember why I don't wear them any other day of the year -- they're pewter and fairly heavy, so they are annoying over the course of a day.  But, I'm willing to do a bit of "fashion suffering" for the sake of the holiday!  Tongue Tied

That's funny your husband didn't notice the pic in the coffee cup!  I did get DH a card from me and one from Ruby, but I completely forgot to leave them out on the kitchen counter before I went to bed last night (he leaves for work before I'm completely alert and awake).  Oh well, better late then never, I guess!

    • Gold Top Dog

Tracy same reason I don't wear these earrings often  they are big flashy and heavy, just they way I used to like them when I was a much younger person.  Of course back then I would have on tight jeans and high heels too....lol not so much now.  My Jeans are tight cause I have gained weight and I have on my flats cause I would prolly fall down if I wore heels, lol,  oh I mean I am wearing my shoes that wont ruin in the yucky mud.  :)
