Moaning Monday

    Moaning Monday

Gah . Monday already. I'm not ready for this week yet. Sure wish we had longer weekends! Sorry for no paragraphs. I will put ++++ to signify a new topic ;p ++++ Yesterday's building training was lots of fun. The best part was the heat! I figured we would be waiting outside a lot so I worked 3 layers of clothes. What a mistake. I was dying and quickly stripped down to one layer. It was so toasty warm I was loving it.++++ We did quite a few problems but one was a person hidden inside a stack of tires on a 2nd (open) floor of a parts/auto shop. There were fans blowing the scent all over. As soon as we walked in the room abbie barked to say yep someone's in here. The scent is all over the place. Normally I would just take that and reward her because she is considered a generalist dog. She doesn't have to pinpoint. If she zone barks like that I would call in a specialist dog like a disaster dog (pinpoints live only) or a cadaver dog (will pinpoint dead only) but we wanted her to narrow is down a bit. So I made her keep working which she did. She would make sweeps of the room then come scent check those of us standing around. Dogs will scent check to verify that what they are smelling is not one of us standing there. Then she started to narrow it down to 2 rows of stacked tires that were sitting on pallets. The pallets were cresting somewhat of a fireplace effect with the scent. Picture logs burning on a grate in a fireplace. Air was being sucked in from underneath then shooting out the top. Once it hit the ceiling the fans were blowing the scent. The was so cool to watch. You could see abbie nose point at the scent stream and land where the scent was pooling in a stack of tires across from where the subject actually was and there was a void directly next to the subjects stack. After lots of barking and me telling her to figure it out she did and got a huge reward. It was good stuff. That type of thing really teaches the dog a lot. ++++ Anyway, I better get going to work. Booo

Couldn't agree more about the need for longer weekends.  It seems like they just get started and then they are gone.

We didn't get much snow at all.....maybe an inch.....but the plows kept going every 15-20 minutes and waking me up all night..  Not amused.

Suppose I'd best get ready for work too.  Seems like a good day to huddle under the covers, but.....

Julie, it is so cool to read how Abbie worked (and you worked!) to find the person! Indoors sounds good to me, too.

We had some snow overnight, but not a ton. It's sunny today, which I'll take. Mozey is still asleep--she has her own down comforter, and she is a total slug when she gets snuggled in there!

Edited to fix a word split.

    Way to go, Abbie girl!

Drizzly morning here.  Since it's Monday, it seems fitting.

Good morning gang, hope you all are well. Cold here in PA today, but the sun is shining and that really helps. I'm looking forward to 80 degree days!  Be safe and have a good day! Hope to see you on the Westminster Thread later tonight.

    Good job Abbie!

Weekend was cold and snowy. Not much of a surprise.

Working on corporate Amex. The fun never ends.

Found out yesterday a friend had two heart attacks - the second while she was in the hospital being treated for the first. She's at U of Mich hospital now. Please send vibes for her and her family.

Tina, thinking good thoughts for your friend and hope she has a full, speedy recovery.

Well, the melting is continuing, as it stayed in the high 30's all night, and it's raining this morning.  But let me tell you, it's a MESS.  Imagine 8-12 inches of snow on roads that were NOT plowed and now they're turning into slush.  The main roads where a ton of vehicles have been driving over them for 24+ hours are pretty good (except when you have to change lanes and drive through several inches of thick slush).  However, the neighborhood roads where there is little traffic = a nightmare.  DH had so much trouble getting down our street that he called me and said he'd come back later to bring me to work.  If his big truck was having trouble, then my car would be worse).  Ugh.  Now it's ugly and dirty and messy ---- I only like new, white, fluffy snow!  :-)

Good to get out of the house today -- it seems like all I did was eat this weekend.  DH cooked homemade fried chicken, a fabulous pot roast, a chocolate cake . . . and I ate them for 2 days straight.  Took some walks in the snow, but not enough to burn even a fraction of those calories!

Along with eating, I watched lots of stuff on the DVR.  Julie, what did you think of the final Sherlock episode?  I loved it -- it was more in line with the earlier seasons, with more of a crime/mystery element.  Did you know the people who played Sherlock's parents are really Benedict Cumberbatch's folks?  They're both experienced actors.  I liked the twist with Mary's past, and the funny quips in the dialogue, but boy was that villain CREEPY!
