    Thursday Chat 2-7-14

We had a little sleety type ice in some parts of town this morning. Nothing where I live or work. It's cold and a little windy. I know it's nothing compared to some areas. Watching the news of the bad weather makes me very grateful I live here. Nothing much exciting going on here.

We have a beautiful sunny day.  No wind, and all the way up to -8ºF.

Pup has developed a taste for winter boots.  It must be good for him.  He hit 20 lbs.  He can do his zoomies in the living room and not touch the floor.  A little hard on the furniture.

    • Gold Top Dog

We're having a heat wave at 15 degrees. No sun, but more snow flurries.

Under the gun here at work. No time to play. Can all my stuff be done today? Sure, if I skip my lunch hour and stay late, no problem. Why would I need to go home? I knew I shoulda packed my pajamas and a change of clothes. Tongue Tied

    @DougB
He can do his zoomies in the living room and not touch the floor.  A little hard on the furniture.

It can also be hard on the area rugs when they come to a skidding halt on the edge of one, after a particularly airborne zoomie!  I am forever straightening area rugs in our house, thanks to Ruby!

Well, we've got a winter storm warning in effect until 4pm.  It's lightly snowing here, but one of our subs just called from a town about 12 miles south and said they've got 1/2 inch or so, and it's starting to accumulate, along with packing down on roads so it's very slick to drive.  That is the worst part of snow here.  There is little to no road care, so driving can be very scary -- especially when you factor in drivers with little experience in such conditions and/or the attitude of "I've got a 4WD or AWD vehicle, so I'm just going to drive at my normal speed.  To h*** with you slowpokes!"

What really annoys me is I have a hair appointment at 1pm and it looks like I'll have to cancel.  I've already rescheduled it once last month, so I'm fairly desperate to get it done. It's bad enough to have shaggy, shapeless ends, but can we say "skunk stripe" on the part line?  Tongue Tied

These are the people that put tow truck drivers children through college.

No kidding Doug.  I see plenty of that here too.

Don't think we are going to make the projected high of 22 degrees.  It's 16 and hasn't budged in a few hours.

We "only" ended up with about 14-15 inches of snow, and thanks to a wonderful neighbor I only had the walk up from the sidewalk to shovel with the two sets of steps.  There was a tiny little crust, but nothing that made it too hard to shovel, thankfully.  DS will have to clean up out by the street for me.  Hopefully he's done that by the time I get home.

Lunch break is over, so back to work!

I'm always offended by comments about suv drivers. It's so prejudiced. Someone needs to do a study about the rate of suv drivers in accidents vs other car accidents in the winter.

I drive an SUV and would be the slowest person on the roads if there was snow. I'd probably just stay at home or work until it all melted.

We've actually been getting some rain and it looks like there's more to come over the next few days. I doubt we could get enough to take us out of drought status this year but it's still going to help.

Meeting last night was fun. A glass of wine with a bunch of chatting women is always a good time. We didn't really come up with any great strategy, other than we're going to try to host an adoption event once a month until something else pans out.

I see a lot of bashing of the olympics but I'm really looking forward to watching some of it. Hopefully it'll be a safe event for participants and spectators. I can honestly say that I wouldn't go there to watch even if I was given the opportunity.

I ordered a couple of accent chairs from Wayfair and they arrived yesterday and I love them! It was a super good sale - both chairs for about $250 and free shipping. We just finished putting together our office with furniture we ordered from Hayneedle.com and I couldn't be happier. To say we've become the king & queen of online shopping is an understatement. We've found that most of the things we want are less expensive, especially if we don't have to pay close to 8.75% sales tax and the convenience of having it delivered to your door is hard to beat.

I would go if given the chance. Even with all the chaos disarray. You just can't put a price on those life experiences  even if they are crazy.

Snow snow and more snow. Best part today was snow wasn't in the forecast. That didn't stop if from snowing all day though.

Tonight is bar night. I think I need it. But I also need some exercise. Those 2 activities don't really go together.

Julie, I drive an SUV and I drive it with a brain.  Too darned many folks driving whatever it is with 4wd or AWD just don't use the common sense that the good Lord gave to a bug.

Julie, I meant no offense . . . . I was just commenting on what I observe when driving around here in slippery conditions.  For example, I just drove home in fairly heavy snowfall, maybe an inch or so on the roads, packed down, no plowing or sand, etc.  What I observed (again) was that most (not all) the cars that zipped by me were 4WD trucks or AWD cars and SUVs.  As I said, not ALL were those kinds of vehicles.  I drive a car with AWD, and I know I annoy those other drivers when they see the AWD label on my car's backside, yet I'm going 20-25 MPH.  I don't let my AWD give me false confidence.  Slick roads are slick, no matter what car you're in!  I also don't have studded tires, but lots of people do here, so they can go a bit faster when it's icy.

Cathy, I've wondered if Wayfair is a good source of home decor.  I've only ordered counter stools on line, and have been worried about ordering bigger stuff.  Might have to get more adventurous with my online shopping.  I haven't heard of the other source you mentioned.  I'll check that out.  Glad you've been so happy with your purchases!

I hate to break this to all of you but it isn't 2-7-2014

    It is 2-6-14 :)

I definitely profile drivers by vehicle,

Just saw a swiffer commercial that helped me to realize that the kitchen floor I think is filthy is pretty darn clean

I am pretty darn tired. One more day of 5 am walk yet still coming home to a dog who is "a donkey on the edge".  Last two days I have walked him when I got home too LONG walks and then he is finally normal for him. I often think he is darn lucky I adopted his crazy butt. However for Doug and Tracy, when you have a 105lb dog you discourage inside zoomies with all you have because they can lead to completely demolished wrought iron and glass hall tables

I was just testing everyone on their powers of observation regarding the date. :)

It is now 2-7-14.  The only significant thing about this date is that it's Friday.

Sorry I've been so AWOL -- work has been insane (about 3 hours of working late per night for the past week) and so fast-paced jumping on here hasn't been an option.  But hey I've got a job, I'll deal.

But when I got home last night Charlie's  "cloudy" eye (he has vision in both eyes but one has "edema" that will likely never go away)  was a mess.  The 3rd eyelid had come up (and he was keeping the eye shut) no one could see us last night so I had to get up before dawn to have Charlie down to Animal Eye before 8.  In order to get everything done last night I didn't get to bed til 2:30 ... and now I'm SO dragging -- 2d cup of 'real'  (not decaf) coffee on its way.

P.S. -- Took Charlie  to  Animal Eye (they open at 8 ... but is anyone there? nope.  No vet til 9!!  I'm thrilled!!).  The vet went on and on as  to how great they looked.  Um yeah, but you should have seen the agony he was in last night.  We like Dr. McNabb that we normally see, but this  guy *is* the head honcho and he's a major jerk.  Condescending as heck (he talked to me like I was a 3rd grader, never told me the results of any of the tests and he just said "See Dr. McNabb in 2 1/2 weeks, the eyes look great" and he was GONE.

Granted the red drops helped -- but gee.  For $118 for an office call one would think ..... grrrr.
