Snow SNow SNOw SNOW no No NO

It's coming straight down-about 4 inches so far. Weatherman said 4" total, but he has been known to be wrong. Glad there is no wind. I pulled the starter rope off the snowblower, but it has an electric start feature. Mt wife thought it was a waste of money when we got it (She does not shovel the drive way) but it becomes one of my favorite toys this time of year. Piper (the Wonder Dog) was playing with my new land shark. Auggie got the zoomies and Piper was trying to catch him as he ran by her. She was having fun-you could tell by the way she smiled and stood. Piper shares the food bowl and water bowl with the little snot. Had a job in Fairmont yesterday-about an hour drive across the tundra. The snow drifts were black, from windblown top soil. Even the snow on roofs was black. This snow should make the world pretty again. Puppy wanted to play with the flakes when I let him out this morning. The rat is teething and everything is fair game. Right now we are tussling about who controls the printer paper. He works about as well as the shredder so maybe I can just feed him the old papers from the file drawer. I think I have the day off, so I guess I'll start up the table saw. I have a nice piece of mahogany that wants to be a box.

Gotta love the weather forecasters.  Our low today is supposed to be 14, but at the moment it's 0.  I'm not even going to try to figure that one out.  But, we are headed to a whooping 25 degrees today!

I'm 60 today.  Dang, that's a BIG number!  And, because of an event that the local collegiate league team is doing, I get to spend part of my b'day with the dammed Yankees GM.  Yep.  Right her in the heart of Red Sox nation!  LOL!

Off to start the work day.  Hope everyone has a great day and is able to stay WARM!

Wasn't sure if this was today's mindless.

    Will be running 1099s shortly.

A friend bought me 2 squares in his office football pool. I'm not into the gambling and barely understand what will make me win, so maybe I will have blind luck. Yeah, right.

Cake Happy Birthday, Glenda!  Are you one of those people who says, "It's just a number!" (like my husband), or are you someone like me who says, "Yikes - it's hard to say that number out loud!"  I hope you can expand your celebration beyond the interaction with the Yankees GM.  Maybe something chocolate for dessert this evening.  That's my go-to way of marking a birthday!

Doug, your updates about the weather and the puppy (who has more  nicknames than I've ever heard!) are just too funny.  I'm glad Piper seems to be making the transition to older sibling so well.  Sounds like they'll be good companions for each other.

The daffodils are just poking through the dirt in our patio pot.  I've seen a few of them in some neighbors' yards when walking Ruby, too.  That is the only saving grace about the climate here -- winters are so grey, wet, and depressing, but they're mild enough that we get very early signs of spring.  February starts to show plenty of pastel color around here.

Tina, too bad we couldn't celebrate the wrap-up of 1099s together this week.  I've got most of mine out, but I ran out of forms and have about a dozen left.  I'll get them taken care of today. Don't you think they're such a ridiculous requirement?  I think that darn $600 limit has been the same for eons . . . the least they should do is increase it to go along with inflation or something.  The amount of time (not to mention paper and ink) we spend preparing them is just annoying.  I understand the value of W-2s, but 1099s just feel like a waste to me.

That's my citizen grumble for the day!

Happy birthday Glenda! I am of the can't say that number variety lol I hate getting older. I hope you get to do something fun for your big day.

The office is nice and quiet today as most of the engineers are at a conference. This is conference hell month and I declared enough is enough. So I skipped today's to get other things done instead. It has been nice because my usual lunch crew is gone so I walked downtown with some folks I normally don't have lunch with (non Engineer types). We had greats chats. It was fun :)

Tonight is bar/happy hour night with some different friends. I'm really looking forward to it because this weather is making me totally stir crazy.

We are going to try to train outside with the dogs Fri night. We'll see. The weather is not conducive to spending much time outdoors. Especially for the dog paws.

Btw I can't believe you have daffodils popping through already

Don't you think they're such a ridiculous requirement?

Honestly, no. There isn't any other way to report income for non-employee vendors who aren't incorporated. They should have to pay taxes on their income like the rest of us.

The forms the IRS requires are a bit of a hassle to line up with our software, so I think that stinks because they change a little each year.

I made my life easier by sending blank W-9s to vendors as I set them up in our system so that I am not scrambling to get the info at the end of the year. Legally you cannot request an SSN for these over the phone, but most people aren't aware of that. The real hassle is when a vendor refuses to provide the filled out W-9. In those cases, we are required to request the info 3 times and then begin backup withholding. I don't have enough to do as it is. Confused

Hi -- not trying to be anti-social, just unbelievably swamped at work, and my Dad's back in the hospital (long story -- he fell 3 weeks ago and my mother wouldn't LET him go have an x-ray  ("That's a sprained ankle and if you go to the ER you'll just get exposed to the flu!" ) except  finally his chiropractor (bless him) said "GO GET AN X-RAY!!!" -- and he succeeded where I've failed for 3 weeks ... and guess what?  Yep Dad's been walking on a broken fibula for **three** weeks!!

Way more drama -- color me worried sick about both of them *sigh* -- but such is life.   and being busy at work is *way* better than the alternative!
