    AKC DNA profiling

A student at my agility class asked a question this evening that none of us really knew the full answer to.  We all knew the basics of the Frequently Used Sire DNA testing, but not the full purpose behind it. And all of my research on the AKC's site didn't help clarify.

When a sire is submitted to DNA testing, what is the main purpose of this?  i know they say it's for "parentage verification" but does that mean itiIs it to verify the dog is who he is supposed to be? Or is to keep on file for future use with his own offspring?

Say, for example, I have a dog that is considered a "Frequenly Used Sire" and the registry has deemed it necessary to submit a DNA test prior to further litters being registered.  Will they take his DNA sample and compare it to his own parents to verify his own identity, or will they add it to his pedigree profile, for use with his future offspring?

Interesting question I'm going to see if I can find anything out.
