Good morning all.   The boys say if you dont have furr you better be careful :)

1 degree with a windchill of -12 in N.W.Arkansas. I know that is not as cold as some of our northern friends but for here .....that's cold.

    Be safe and bundle up

Good morning, not too bad here yet but the bitter cold is on the way all the rain we had is going to ice up and get nasty. Tonight suppose to be down below ZERO.

Unbelievable.  It is 53 degrees here.  Pouring rain, but hello?  53?  And tomorrow is supposed to be 12.  50 plus degrees warmer than in the deep South?  Unreal.

DS went out and busted butt shoveling on Saturday to make sure that the very dry snow didn't soak up all the rain and turn to frozen concrete....and most of the stuff that wasn't shoveled is gone anyway.

Tracy, thanks for the ginger ale and cracker idea.  Will try to remember that next time.  I so rarely get this kind of sick....as in years and years apart...that I tend to forget the common sense stuff.  I will NEVER eat at that place again.

Going to work from home today.  Luckily I'm able to speak again, so phone calls won't be an issue.  Just do NOT have the energy to make myself look human and go out in the pouring rain.

Hope everyone has a good day, and stays safe, warm and dry.

Yikes, that's cold for your area, Ginger!  We're getting some cold air but nothing like many areas.  I think it was 27F this morning and tomorrow morning is supposed to be a little colder.  I guess I better stock up on bread and milk. lol

DH and I made a deal this weekend.  I'd go see the second Hunger Games movie if he'd go see Philomenia.  The problem with this deal is that he'll enjoy both movies.  I could hardly stay awake during the Hunger games movie.  I did find it amazing that no matter how many arrows she shot, she always had a full quiver.  The magic of movies. :)

    Thinking of you, Tina.  (((hugs)))

    Thanks, Jackie.

Temps are supposed to drop from 11 degrees this morning to 2 degrees, with wind chills near -30. I don't remember moving to the Arctic.

I watched the Packers/Chargers football game yesterday. I couldn't imagine playing football in that cold, let alone being in the stands watching.

My DS finally cleaned his room yesterday, proof that miracles do indeed happen.

Did you see the second hunger games movie yet Jackie?

Well our storm has been everything they predicted. Shocker. Basically everything is closed. Banks, retail, doctors offices and outpatient hospitals. Even MSU and the state government shut down today. Amazing. I'm hoping and praying the power doesn't go out. The wind is blowing something fierce and with so much snow weighing everything down chances are high lines could get torn down.

So the snow removal dilemma is, blow it now when it is 13 below or wait until later when it is 30 below. If I do it now the wind will likely drift the snow back.

No plot spoilers please. Still yet to see the Hunger Games 2. :-)

No worries, Jonathan no plot spoilers from me.  I slept through most of it.  :)  It's mainly for younger audiences than my age group. Except my husband who loved every minute of it. lol

Julie, we saw the second  Hunger Games movie Saturday.   I'm glad I don't have to get out in that kind of weather.  I'm cold and it's well above freezing here and no snow.  lol

I honestly think that this cold is harder on folks in the Southern states who aren't used to it, than it is on us who live with it on a regular basis.  Of course, that said, it's no fun for any of us, but at least in the North we expect to freeze and have appropriate clothing to help prevent it.

I love Jennifer Lawrence, but I have no desire to see the Hunger Games (or read the books).  Fortunately, DH doesn't want to see it either!  Actually, we rarely agree on what movies to see, so I've got a couple friends who are my regular movie dates.

Jackie, I'll be eager to hear what you think of Philomena.

It's 34 here, so not too bad compared to many other parts of the country.  We were watching the Packers game, too ---- to freeze like those fans did and watch the team lose must've been a double whammy.

Not looking forward to a full 5 day week.  I've got a lot to do at work this week.  Ugh.

Judy Dench.  How can it not be good? :)   I put my foot down and said no to seeing the second Hobbit movie.  I can nap better at home. lol

Air temp in my back yard is -20ºF.  As the wind is brisk, we won't discuss windchill.  This is with the sun up and shining.  The heated birdbath is frozen.  The one on the ground is apparently insulated a bit, so the birds are lined up and eager for warm water. I had to zip up the parka today.  May try one more layer later.

Strangely, a couple of forums I hit are discussing global warming, and find the concept amusing.  They seem to believe that a couple of days of cold negate the theory, ignoring the science and data.

My 1997 F150 started up this morning.  Tune up, new battery last year, new starter this year, 5-20 oil seem to have worked.  That an an attached garage (one of the true signs of a civilized society).

Having fur wont help much today, for all except the Alaska breeds. You know it's cold out when you inhale and your nose hairs freeze and break off.  Uff da.

It's cold, but not that cold...yet!  Tonight will be a different story.  The county just to the north of us (Macon area)  cancelled school today because of the threat of black ice.  That seems to be an overreaction, but does make me worry about my son who has to go to work tonight in Macon.

I hate taking showers in the cold weather!

    • Gold Top Dog

There is white stuff falling from the sky.  That was NOT in the forecast!  At 53 freaking degrees???????

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow, Doug -- the heated birdbath is frozen?  That's a sure sign that the temps are not suitable for any living being outside, human or animal!  Poor birds have to take up ice skating, I guess.

It's funny you mentioned an attached garage being part of civilized society.  There a few key things that I can't imagine living without now that I have them.  I grew up in CT without a garage and was very experienced in digging out snow-covered cars and scraping off iced windshields on a regular basis.  I got my first garage when we bought our first house (I was around 30).  We don't have snow often here in OR, but I still LOVE my garage.  My car is warm, dry, and I don't have to get wet or windblown walking to it every morning.  Three cheers for garages!

For the record, another thing I grew up without and now can't imagine giving up is a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink.  Tongue Tied

Jackie, I said the same thing about Philomena -- it's Judi Dench, so it has to be good.  I was NOT disappointed.  She was fantastic in it, as was Steve Coogan.  But boy, the heartbreaking story sure sticks with you.  I'm a lapsed Catholic, and stories like that one just add to my list of reasons for staying away.
