Sunday morning blues

A gray day in MN, but it warmed up to +1F.

Had the kids and grandkids down last night for dinner and a view of the Mankato Million Lights display. Great evening. Chile, corn chowder, assorted condiments and beverages. We took the walking tour of the lights as it was almost 8F. The local Kiwanis club sets up a fantastic display at a park in Mankato. You can drive through it if your a wuss, or you can walk, taking advantage of the warming houses set up in several places. We walked. Frostbite isn't too bad.

The grandkids had a blast. We went through the playground area, and the kids were climbing on everything. Apparently, snow suits, cold weather, and a little powder snow combine to make slides really exciting. The kids came of the slides so fast we had to catch them.

The light show is getting rally popular. We waited in line about half an hour to get in. We did get parking right away, as most people just drove through. When we left, the line to get in was well over a mile long.

I think Pipers deafness made her more mellow with the kids. She interacted very politely, and then went to her bed in the office when she had enough. The kids don't get in her face too much anymore, and the little one is a very quiet and gentle little kid who gave Piper some nice pets. Piper didn't even stalk the dinner table.

Got a heat wave coming. Up in the 20s tomorrow.

It's snowing-again.

We got about 8 inches of snow last night. Sure is a LOT of shoveling to do! Now that it appears to have stopped, will get out there and get started. Joy.

Hope everyone else in the storm area is safe and warm.

Doug, the light display sounds beautiful. We walked through one in the Oregon Garden last weekend (it was in the high teens, which is very cold for here). But I'm sure it wasn't as pretty as a display with the snow you have there.

Piper must be mellowing with age, and the hearing loss helps keep her excitement to a minimum. The high pitched voices of young kids can sure be a trigger for some dogs. I know Ruby gets all excited when she hears the little kids running and laughing outside.

Glenda, sounds like your shovel will get a workout. Hope your back doesn't talk to you too much later!

City law says we have to shovel the sidewalk since we are in town. I did. And it was heavy chunks of stuff from the snow plow. Went back out not an hour later and darned if they hadn't thrown more that far up and refilled the whole danged thing. The foot of the driveway was about 2 feet deep in chunks and slush. Fun stuff. I will be complaining tomorrow.

Forgot to mention how beautiful the lights sounded. We had a lovely area in FL that was done, however, 25 or so degrees and no snow doesn't quite FEEL the same!

Hope you aren't too sore tomorrow Glenda. Shoveling that heavy stuff is tough. Sounds like a nice light display Doug, made even prettier with the new snow. We have one about 45 minutes from us. I've only been once. Before Thanksgiving, the first night they open, it is open for a dog walk, for donations, and no one can drive through. Any money that is collected goes to one of the local animal welfare groups. Great idea and best time to go, in my opinion anyway, as there is no waiting in lines. I did that a couple of years ago. That was the only time I've ever done the display. Has a rather bitter sweet memory for me, as that was the last time I walked one of our dogs. She passed away that Thanksgiving. It happened very quickly and I'd no idea she was even sick. She was 13 but no one would have guessed it.
