Cathy, what a horrible turn of events for your coworker and her family. I'm glad to hear that there's no paralysis --- as soon as I read your initial post, I was afraid that was the outcome. I hope his surgery goes well and he has a full recovery.
We're still having pretty amazing weather -- no rain, a few more clouds than we were having, but sun making appearances very regularly throughout the day. Very, very cold for here, so that's rough on the garden. In fact, my Meyer Lemon tree has been under a blanket for a week or so. I decided being kept in the dark was less harmful that being exposed to freezing temps. The lemons are small and green, so I wasn't hopeful about them anyway. We've only had ONE ripe lemon off that tree. It struggles in this climate.
Karen, with or without power struggles over housework, the end result is always that I do WAY more of it than DH does. Sometimes it bugs me, but his cleanliness standards are much lower than mine, so if he does certain chores, I end up re-doing some of them, so I may as well do it in the first place.
Yeah, I've seen some real ugliness involved in estates and inheritances in my family and friends' families. I don't think I'd ever get over something like what you described, Julie. I see it as basically stealing. My Mom doesn't really have an "estate." so there's nothing for me and my sister to fight over. I hope DH and I live long enough to spend our assets, but if we don't, there are no kids to fight over them. We'll be focused on charities, not family members.
