    TGIF Chat 11-22-13

The cold front is moving in.  The temperature dropped from the 70's to 50's.  They say we'll keep dropping in temp and it's started to rain very lightly.  We need the rain so I hope it happens.  Lots of traffic accidents because people can't factor in the wet pavement.

There was a walking stick (insect) in the outside dog water.  Belle alerted me to it.  I thought it was dead but when I fished it out, it crawled away.  Belle tried to grab it but I moved it to safety.  It won't last much longer as it's life cycle is about over anyway.

Seeing the coverage of the anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination brings back lots of memories.  So incredibly horrible for our country and for his family and loved ones.  I remember hearing the news and not really understanding completely but knowing something terrible had happened.

I love walking sticks - they are so cool!

I wasn't born yet when JFK was killed.

A friend of mine who deer hunts brought me oodles of venison sausage last night. Yum.

I'm itching to tear crap out of my house and throw things away. Must.be.rational.

I love it when you Texans call 50 degrees a cold front.  Big Smile

I was very young when JFK was killed but distinctly remember the funeral on TV (probably because I wanted to watch cartoons and all of the maybe 5 channels we got back then had the funeral on) and my Mom crying.  I didn't understand any of it either back then, Jackie.

Anyway - it's also raining in the Great State of New Jersey today so it's a great day for a Coconut Storm:

It's called a storm because it not only resembles one, but it also packs a thunderous kick. It’s perfect for a rainy day.

    Makes one cocktail

    • 1 oz of Bacardi light rum
    • 1 oz of Malibu coconut rum
    • 1 oz of Cruzan pineapple rum
    • 1 oz of Myer’s dark rum
    • 4 oz of coconut juice
    • splash of pineapple soda

Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the light, coconut and pineapple rums. Next, add the coconut juice and a splash of the soda. Top off with the dark rum.

No plans for the weekend other than shopping for Thanksgiving and trying to prepare as much as I can ahead of time.

You got FIVE channels?  Geeze, we only got 3.

I was in 3rd grade.  The announcement was made and we were dismissed early.  My best friend said that it really didn't matter since her folks hadn't voted for JFK anyhow.  That was the beginning of the end of our friendship.

I adored JFK....cheered at his campaign speeches, was ecstatic when he won.  I was just a little kid, but the charisma sucked me right in.

While JFK was not a terribly moral man, IMHO he was a decent president, and the whole Camelot era brought hope to the nation.

Raining in the Commonwealth of MA too.  But, warmish since its almost 40.  Fridays are my very busiest days so mother nature always dumps some sort of wet stuff on me....thankfully it's just rain!

I agree!  It's been a long time since I've seen one.  I'm always amused when I hear someone on a British TV show refer to them as "stick insects."  For some reason, it gives me a chuckle.

I wasn't born when JFK was killed, and it wasn't until I got a bit older that I started to comprehend what it all meant.  Now when I see the footage and hear the different reports and stories, I can only imagine what people around the country (the world, really) were feeling.  Back then people weren't as "used to" or desensitized to the kinds of violent acts that seem to be more prevalent today.  The only thing I can try to compare it to in my lifetime was how I felt on 9/11.

Another spectacular day here -- in the high 20's when I got up and not expected to get about 40, but it's super sunny.  I love it!  Supposed to be this way for another few days.

Someone rang our doorbell at 7AM.  I wasn't dressed, so it took a minute to get to the door.  No one was there, no vehicle outside (we haven't heard when plumbers are returning today).  Turns out it was our neighbor's house/dog sitter.  She locked herself out of the house while walking the dog.  Luckily, our other neighbor was up and she called a locksmith from his house while she and the dog stayed warm!

Burrrrrr its cold outside!  Not frozen toes cold like Doug Wink but cold all the same.  I am so excited about tonight.  Deb I think I might need a coconut storm to keep me warm inside while I browse thru the shops downtown this evening.

Where was I 50 years ago?   I remember it like yesterday.   I was actually not at school cause I was very sick little girl.  I was at the Baby sitter's house and she had a garage turned into a "playroom" for lack of a better word.   She always kept us kids in that room with 22 cats...ugh.  Anyway I think I was in 2nd grade but back then we were not as worldly as kids today are.  I remember because it was the only time ever I had been in the womans actual house.   She didnt want to miss any of the news, so she brought me in to the living room, what a peach.  For 3 days we watched as everyone cried and was sad.  I was watching during the funeral, John Jr saluting his Dad ..... :(

Everyone stay warm this weekend.  Julie have you been skiing yet?
