    21 Nov 13, mindless Thursday

Hard to believe Thanksgiving is a week away.

My co-worker's dog Blue is getting better every day.

What should I make for dinner tonight?

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm glad to hear Blue is healing well.  I kept meaning to ask about him.

Whatever you make for dinner, make enough for me.  I am not into meal preparation lately and we've been living off leftovers all week.

Thanksgiving is next week?  This means I need to start planning.  Planning where we're going to escape to so we can avoid the family drama. lol

Busy busy busy and no end in sight.  I'm feeling overwhelmed.  Everyone I talk to at the city gives me a different answer.  It's hard for me to remain diplomatic but so far I haven't exploded.

On top of all the work craziness, Ruger (coworkers Weim) threw up all over his bed in his crate this morning.  Coworker gags when dealing with puke so I got to clean it up.  I didn't really mind since I love Ruger like he was one of my own.

Poor Ruger - poor Jackie!  Tina -- dunno about you but I'm suddenly in a chili mood.

Thank heavens I continue to do a bit better every day.  *so far* I'm not seeing any huge side effects from the gabapentin and man -- NOT having all those muscle spasms/excruciating pain/nausea is huge.  I very nearly feel human again!!  RAH!

Charlie was limping sporadically last night.  Feets are fine ... I'm going to have to watch it.  David said he limped going to the door for his "Last Hurrah" last night but when he came in no limp.  It seems to be after he's been lying down for a while *then* he limps.

Jackie - you made me laugh.  We always go "away" for Thanksgiving too.  We have no close family, but I just have to get David far enough away from work so he doesn't decide to work on Thanksgiving. "Away for Thanksgiving" is a coping mechanism for both of us I guess.  Happy Planning. (The other up-side is no "5 Days of Turkey Leftovers";)

    @sharismom

What should I make for dinner tonight?

    Cheddar-cornbread waffles topped with chili.

Oh, pass me one of those waffles please!

I made chili a few weeks ago and it turned out great. May need to make some more but I'll be using my old slow cooker.

Tracy - the yoga mats might work. The one I have is thick but I've seen some that are super thin. I can see that no matter how we work it, it's going to be messy. At the other house, we used the laundry room for going and coming and were able to keep the mess in there. Our current laundry room is on the other side of the house, so that won't work. The garage door may turn out to be the best option.

Julie - My friend was visiting her daughter in Boulder a few weeks ago and also commented on how flat it was. She was really surprised too.

One of my bosses posted on FB that she woke up sick, so I emailed and asked if she was going to skip coming to the office. She said she'd still be coming because the meeting was too important to miss. I was tempted to tell her that no one is going to thank her if they get sick but I didn't.

Good news about Blue.  Hope Ruger's tummy doesn't give him any more problems today!

So glad to hear you can notice significant improvement, Callie, without bad side effects From the medication.  Fingers crossed it continues to work well for you.  Tell Charlie I can relate to being a bit gimpy after sitting or lying down too long!

I'm sitting here at home waiting for the plumbers to tell me what kind of horrible job it's going to be to repair the leak that is somewhere between the meter and our house (or something like that . . . I didn't quite get what they told DH before he had to go back to work.  Good thing I pay such close attention to our utility bills; I knew the increase in our water bill was not normal.

There are so many times when I think homeownership is more trouble than it's worth.  This is one of those times.  We've had too many repairs and maintenance issues this year!

i have a ton to do at work, and being stuck at home is not helping me at all.  Ugh.

I seriously hate it when people go to work sick.  You should have told her in a politically correct way. In these times there's no reason you can't teleworking for a day or 2.

I feel like I am in mi today with the snow and 16 degree temps. That said the 16 degrees feels like 40 at home. Crazy how that works. I will never again feel sorry for people out west complaining of the cold. This is nothing!

Tracy, I hope the plumbing problem isn't too costly.  I hear you on the home ownership costs.  Renting sometimes seems like a great option.  My hubby and I talk about buying a nice condo downtown when (and if) we retire.  There are some really nice places along the riverwalk that are close to shops and the farmers market. It's a very dog friendly atmosphere but I can't imagine having three dogs and no yard.  I guess we'll stay where we are and just keep patching up our little house.

I feel like I'm going 90mph but not moving.  :(

heavens, what a day.  Good news about Blue...glad to hear it.  And, I've forgotten everything else.

Saw the old bosses car at a diner today so stopped and chatted with him.  He's quite the character!

Broke down and bought the turkey today.  Will wait until the weeknd to get veggies and cheese and stuff for the munchy trays.

    I need a nap!

Tina I am so happy that Blue is feeling better.

Callie I am glad that the meds are working.  Sorry to hear about Charlie's limp..Hot Shot has been doing some of the same just since the cooler weather has come in.  Just like Tracy said  I can relate :)

Deb I have never seen waffle like that but it does look good.   Jackie take a deep breath and dont hurt anyoneWink

Today is the 1 year birthday of my daughter's new hip, lol.  I sent her a Birthday card and she got a big kick out of it.

It is raining here and the temps are supposed to start getting colder tomorrow.  Deb I think were gonna need one of those nice warm cocktails cause I think even Jackie is gonna be colder tomorrow.

It is now winter in MN.  I thought I saw the sun this week, but it was probably just a transient stroke.  Today was nasty.  Dark (headlights all day) and windy-like the start of a cheap book- with a little mist in the air .   Then, the temp dropped to 27 degrees F.  Nice to get the layer of ice down first, so the following snow can polish it.  Apparently, 90% of all drivers have never driven on ice, and they firmly believe that an SUV never slides into the ditch.  Karma can be sweet.

I need to get our office staff a map of southern Minnesota.  Medelia is not half way between Fairmont and New Richland, which explains why my boss called to see if I was in a ditch somewhere on the tundra. A long day, most of it looking through a windshield.  As for the rest of the day, my toes should be thawed by morning.  I am looking forward to retirement.  Sleeping late sounds so good, and staying home when the roads are bad can only be good.  Be really nice to not have sore hands.

Thanksgiving next week!!  Dinner at daughters, dessert at brothers with extended family.  Strangely, there will be no lutefisk.  Mom was a Swede, Dad was a German.  Dad knew anything that smelled like that could not be food.  But Mom got even by frying liver to about the hardness of wood.

I actually fixed the snow blower so it will start.

Regarding unhealthy co workers: My wife is a retired teacher.  Our health is excellent now that she doesn't get near those 25 little plague vectors every day.  Children are bad for your health!!

Ginger, too funny about the birthday card for your daughter's hip!

Doug, my fingers were getting frost bitten just reading your post!

So the plumbers spent 2+ hours looking for our leak.  They dug lots of holes in the area it must be in, but no leaks found.  Since it's so close to the sidewalk and road, they said the leaking water could be draining into the spaces meant to carry water to the sewers and therefore not leaving soggy areas behind as evidence.  They're supposed to send someone tomorrow who specializes in locating such leaks.  With our luck it's a pipe under our driveway or sidewalks that have to be dug out now.  Ugh.

Jackie, your downtown condo is my dream residence, but DH has the same reservations you have about dogs and yards.  It seems do-able, although inconvenient, since lots of people live in cities and have dogs.  As long as you live close to a park and have a dog with the temperament (and size) that's conducive to city living.

Our Governor signed legislation today to make tethering dogs outdoors for more than a certain  number of hours a day a crime.  Yay!  Now I wish they'd outlaw loose dogs in the open beds of pick up trucks.

Gin, the b'day card for the hip is hysterical!

Sure hope that when they find that leak is on the CITIES part of the land!

Doug, gee thanks!  Now MY toes feel frozen!  LOL.

Gosh, I sure don't like the idea of a condo.  I LIKE having my own grass and trees and a place to play in the dirt!  But, that's me.

Oh gosh, Thanksgiving is coming in a hurry isn't it?  I bought a small turkey today...under 12 pounds  The squash, sweet taters and baked beans are already in the freezer, and this weekend I'll do the pies and breads.  I refuse to spend an entire day in the kitchen like my Mom and Grandmother used to do.  And, the rule in my house is that the cook doesn't clean up, so.....no guys going to plop down in front of the tube while I slave!

I finally broke down and went with a smart phone.  Man, it might be smart, but it sure makes ME feel dumb!  But, unlimited talk and text (how DO the young people do that so darned fast?  My thumbs are too big!), and a data package as well.  It's an employee biz expense so tax deductible.  My Galaxy S III mini cost me a whooping $17.45.  Not too bad considering that my dumb phone was 5 years old!
