    Tuesday chatting 11-19

Holy smokes. Getting up at 5:30 is totally going to kill me

I almost fell over after I got out of bed. My brain was rebelling trying to say no no no no go back to sleep. I should have made it a conditional  on my being here that I don't start until 9.

Its supposed to be 60 and sunny here today. That will be so nice!

The lingering smell of manure in the air is going to take some getting used to for sure. And I need to find a grocery store after work at some point. I went to target and a thing of peanut butter was $6! I think the cost of living here is a bit higher than normal.

    • Gold Top Dog

I could easily sleep another 8 hours, but.......

We've got sunshine today, but won't hit 40, so enjoy that warmth for the rest of us!

I hope the weather stays nice Julie.  A little colder weather might make the manure less smelly.  That reminds me of a trip to Point Reyes National Seashore in CA.  The park is along the coast and there's a long road going to the lighthouse.  The park contains some dairy cow operations that have been located there for generations.  This was in August and the weather was nice enough to have the windows down.  Until we smelled the cow manure.  OMG it was overpowering.  I don't mind the smell of cow manure but I have never smelled anything like that in my life.  We were laughing our heads off on the way back out of the park when we saw some people in a convertible with the top down.  I bet that top went up very fast. :)

A little cooler here today but still very nice.

Gabby has been limping after play the last two days.  She's fine in the morning when she gets up.  I guess she's going to have a few days of rest.  I'm doing the relaxation protocol with her.  Talk about boring. lol  She finds any training very stimulating so I'm not seeing any relaxation on her part.  I'll carry on but I don't see her becoming relaxed with this exercise.  Anyone else tried this?

    • Gold Top Dog

Around here, CAFOs take a lot of heat for many things, especially the smell.

No experience here using a relaxation protocol, but I hope Gabby's limp improves soon. Cats are so easy to rest by comparison. LOL

Cold here but bright and sunny.

I do the relaxation protocol with abbie and she loves it.  It helped us a lot. If I put her blanket down she is trying to jump and lay on it before it even hits the ground

Although I've had no formal training in the relaxation protocol, I believe I've mastered it with Jamison.  Please see below:

Jackie:  let me know if you need me to train Gabby.

Gabby loves the relaxation protocol too but she's certainly not relaxed in her attitude.  She leaps to her mat and lays down and quivers for the exercise to start.  lol Are you talking about Overall's 15 day relaxation protocol?  I haven't had any trouble having Gabby stay on her mat as she's glued to it when we're doing the protocol.  She's just far from looking like a relaxed dog. I'm on day three or four. I started going back to 'day one' to make it less exciting. I watched a video of a dog doing the day one exercise and the dog was practically falling asleep.  Maybe that dog has done it so many times, it finally became so boring the dog relaxed.  I emailed my trainer but haven't heard back from her yet.  It's annoying that it takes her days to respond.  I guess she's busy training dogs. lol

Hahahahaha Deb!  I'm packing Gabby's toys and treats.  Get ready for a new experience in relaxation.  lol

    I have the hiccups.

Jamison, can I come relax with you?

    • Gold Top Dog

    @sharismom

    I have the hiccups.

Take a packet of sugar and let it start dissolving on the back of your tongue.  Quickly take a shot of Vodka.

    Repeat until you pass out.

    TAAAAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!  No more hiccups.

    Deb W.

    • Gold Top Dog

Deb, I knew I could count on you for hiccup relief! Stick out tongue

    • Gold Top Dog

Deb, I've tried that sugar method before but it didn't always work.  Now I know why.  I didn't do the vodka shots!  lol

    • Gold Top Dog

Tina I am thinking the Vodka shots should be taken in the presence of Jamison, lol, then the relaxation method can be achieved,Stick out tongue

Gabby as my grandchildren always say  "Wewax" !  This is usually said to "PaPa Ron" when he is telling them to settle down, lol.  "Wewax PaPa"

So today is not my day in the "technical" sense.  I have had trouble at every web site I have been to.    I thought it was my computer but....I am beginning to think it's me...nah surely not.

59 and sunny here, they are saying that those folks in Texas are sending us wind and rain later.    Be gentle Jackie.    By the way has anyone heard from Barb or Amanda lately?  I am hoping our old friends are doing well.

    • Gold Top Dog

We don't have any wind and rain yet but if we get any here I'll try to make sure it doesn't go your way, Gin.

Seeing the damage those tornados did the other day makes me grateful and sad for those who got wiped out.

This new contract is going to be a lot of work for me but I knew that.  The reality is worse than I thought it would be.  It's better than having no job but I was kind of hoping to do less work as I get older, not ten times more.  We had a big meeting yesterday and it was mostly me asking questions that no one could answer.  We did all get to exchange business cards. *insert sarcastic tone* That seems to be the main purpose of these meetings. :(

    • Gold Top Dog

Jackie - do you have a link to the relaxation protocol? I'd like to try that with Shane. I'd prefer to send him to Auntie Deb though. She's obviously a pro at this.

I hope the contract becomes easier as you go along. I too am wanting to do less and less these days. I even find myself complaining about having to work 3 days a week now.

I met with the other partners for the pet shop venture last night. It was fun to meet the few I didn't know and I was impressed with the expertise some of them bring. A few were almost giddy with excitement and I told them I felt like Debbie Downer saying that I didn't think we could celebrate until we had an actual lease agreement. I think it's going to be the most difficult step and the place we're hoping to hear from this week, doesn't sound super promising. Still, it was good to discuss some details and we agreed on areas of responsibilities. I took fundraising because I enjoy doing that but I've never been the lead on it before *gulp*. None of us will deal with any area on our own, so I'm hopeful that as a team, we'll all do well.

We're getting our first rain today and it's been super gloomy but not very wet. We're going to be in big trouble is we don't start getting some soakers soon.

DH is working on Thanksgiving and I don't want to drive to my SIL's for dinner and leave Shane alone that long, so I'll hang out at home with him. I was going to buy one of those complete meals from the grocery store but I'm not so sure now. For a turkey and the sides, it's $59.99 and you still have to mix up the stuffing, and bake the bird for a couple hours. Stuffing is a cinch to make and if I'm going to go through the trouble of cooking the bird, why spend that much? I'd already bought one for 59 cents a pound, so I could put the same dinner together for $10-$15.
