@JackieG
The forum was all wonky over the weekend.
It sure was . . . I checked on it 2 or 3 times over the weekend and finally just gave up. It really does seem like the forum has been "abandoned" by those in charge, as Julie so aptly described it the other day.
Weekend was good -- too fast, as they all are. I got a ton of laundry and housework done (more houseguests arrive this Friday!). We had a delicious dinner with friends on Saturday night and met their new Papillon (so cute!). We also played Wii bowling and frisbee. I've never played any Wii games, and I stink at all things like that, but I did okay on the bowling. We've never joined the modern entertainment era when it comes to Xbox, Wii, all that stuff. We use our TV to watch regular programming and DVDs. We need to get with the times!
I saw a very good movie on Saturday. It was called "Wadjda," and it was about a young girl living in Riyadh (capital of Saudi Arabia) who desperately wants a bicycle, but is forbidden because women aren't allowed to ride bikes (it makes them "impure";). But she's a feisty girl with her own mind, and the story of her aiming to reach her goal is really great. It was a view into a slice of life I certainly had no accurate knowledge of.
It was filmed entirely in Saudi Arabia (not something that's been done -- there's virtually no cinema industry there), and it was written and directed by a Saudi woman. She had to do a lot of the filming from inside a van when they were in public spaces because she couldn't be seen mingling with and giving "orders' to the men in the cast because it would dishonor them. Anyway, my friend and I loved it; I'd recommend checking it out.
No more pleasant weather for us -- I could've used gloves on my drive in this morning. But I won't complain --- the women in that film had to be driven by men (often in vehicles with no A/C) because women aren't supposed to drive!
