    Mindless Monday 10-28-13

After seeing the confusion with the Saturday thread from a month ago, I know why others have added dates.

Brrrrrrrrrrr cold this morning. We had a little rain last night, a lot of wind and there's snow falling in the mountains. I'll be happy when the time changes. It's after 7 and still dark outside. I no like!

Despite the wind, I did a bunch of yard cleanup yesterday. It really never ends but I do enjoy it.

    Loved the pictures of Abbie!!!

I loved the Abbie pictures too! :)

For me, I'd rather have it dark in the morning than in the early evening.  It really cuts down on the time I have to play with the dogs since I work all day.  Not that I like driving in to work in the dark but if I had a choice I'd keep daylight saving time.

Terrible story out of Phoenix.  A man shot and killed three neighbors and their two dogs and then killed himself.  There are reports from other neighbors that he often complained about barking dogs. He was obviously a mentally unbalanced person.  You never really know who your neighbors are or what they're capable of doing.  So sad.

The weather is muggy and warm.  We didn't have any of the bad weather parts of Texas had over the weekend.  I wouldn't mind a little cool front to make it seem like Fall.

    • Gold Top Dog

That is sad about the folks and dogs who got shot.

I am dragging bootie today! Tired from the lack of sleep and hours and hours of walking over the weekend. I am doing good running errands though so far today even though I would rather spend my day napping :)

Jackie I vote for keeping daylight saving time also Yes

Julie the pics of Abbie were wonderful, she is a camo dog in the woods isnt she?

Kate and Doug it was good to see you drop by over the weekend.   Kate I know you will find a perfect fit for your family.  I have a friend here at work that is the Apple Pie queen.  She will fix several dozens and freeze them back.  When ever there is a pot luck or special occasion she pops one in the oven to bake and presto home baked apple pie, yum!

Tracy...I know what you mean about Halloween costumes.  I live and work near a college town.  We have more than a few "Vintage" resale shops.  Why??? Cause the kids love to dress up in those "hippie" clothes for the 60's and those "disco" clothes for the 70's and 80's.  When they sell "lava" lamps on the auction site as Antiques....it is definately a bummer when the kids say......  OMG what is an 8-track.

LOL, Hot Shot and Rocky are ready for fall back I guess..today they changed up the routine.  Then decided they were ready to spring into action just at the time I needed to leave for work.  sheeesh, Just when they have me trained, they change things Wink

Oh, yes, I'd vote for daylight saving time too. I get sad when it gets dark so early. I guess there's just no pleasing me ;).

Shane seemed to want to stay curled up and sleeping this morning too. I think it's because it's so cold though. I took one of the longest hot showers ever :)

It's just starting to get a little chilly in my neck of the woods.  Let the thermostat wars begin.  Sigh.

Fall back won't make much difference to me this year because I'm working a different shift and its always dark when I leave.  I normally love the "extra hour of sleep" but I'm sure that won't really happen this year since Aaron doesn't know how to tell time yet, lol.

I was horrified by that Phoenix story, too.  What a tragedy.

Deb, thermostat wars occur at our house, too.  Our war changes, depending on if it's summer or winter.  In summer, DH is constantly adjusting the thermostat lower, so the A/C seems to constantly run.  I'm always pushing it up a few degrees because I'm walking around the house in a sweatshirt and warm socks in August.  In winter, he wants to bump up the thermostat because he's "chilly," sitting on the couch in his shorts and T-shirt in January.  I'm fine with keeping it at 68 and wearing layers because it's WINTER and you shouldn't be wearing shorts!  Super Angry

As for Daylight Savings -- I knew I was becoming "old" when I started disliking having to move the clocks back.  When I was younger, I loved having the extra hour on a Saturday night --- another hour of socializing or another hour of sleep?  Yay - who cares if it's dark at 4:30pm?!  But now I sound like my mother, dreading how it'll get dark so early in the evenings.  It makes me want to put my PJs on right after dinner and call it a night.

Tracy, our husbands must be related.  That sounds exactly like our thermostat wars.

I bought Halloween candy yesterday.  I haven't eaten any yet.  Can I resist the peanut butter Snickers?  I'll report back to you in a few days.

    @tacran
It makes me want to put my PJs on right after dinner and call it a night.

Sleep and the problem is?...lol, I am early to rise and earlier to bed :)

we keep our house at 68 during the winter, kinda got used to that during the "no heater" era, ha!  Neither of us mind flannel jammies and lap blankets.

Jackie, I alway heard you were supposed to buy candy that you dont like, I never understood that especially cause we live in a neighborhood that doesnt have many trick or treaters and you have to eat the left overs.

    • Gold Top Dog

Good luck resisting the candy, Jackie.  I haven't bought any yet, because I have ZERO will power.

For a few years, I bought these candy-cane type things -- they were just a stick without a curved "hook" at the end, and they were in non-peppermint flavors.  They were cheap -- under $5 for a bag of 30, and they were individually wrapped.  I'm not a big fan of hard candy, so I brought leftovers to work.  The store that sold them no longer makes them, so in recent years I've bought fun size Snickers and Milky Ways.  I eat every single one that's leftover in about 3 days.  I'm pathetic.

My husband insists we buy the good stuff for Halloween.  He's been on a healthy eating trend lately and I doubt he'll be tempted this year to eat any.  If I had my way I'd buy stuff I hated to avoid temptation.  One year I did buy only cheap stuff and he went out and bought bags and bags of good candy.  Mostly we have very few trick or treaters and way too much candy left over.  I'm sending any leftovers to his office. lol

PJ's after dinner. :)  Yep, me too. I do that so when I fall asleep on the couch I can toddle off to bed without too much fuss. lol   Gin, how's your Mom doing?

    • Gold Top Dog

    Ok - let's ixnay all the talk of candy . . . . . . because:

    A) It's National Chocolate Day and . . . .

    B) Tina's at the dentist.

    Way too depressing for words.

    @JackieG
PJ's after dinner. :)  Yep, me too.

    Wait a minute . . . . . . pj's after dinner ??

    I work the 7x3 early tour . . . . . my pj's are always on before dinner.

I forgot that Tina was at the dentist's office today.  Hope the check-up went well!

Re: PJs before/after dinner.  I wear old jeans to work nearly everyday, so I'm already pretty comfy when I get home.  I put sweatpants on if I'm going for a walk or to the gym.  But what I call PJs are ratty old shirts and/or flannel bottoms, so I feel like I need darkness to wear those!  It never fails -- when I put them on earlier in the evening, a neighbor comes to the door for something.  Embarrassed
