Jackie, I can sympathize with what you described about how you're reminded of lying with Twister on the couch . . . in Tonka's final weeks, I had many nights of lying with him during the night (he stopped lying on our bed a few weeks before he died). Being awake and in the living room in the middle of the night makes me think of those heartbreaking hours, too.
Karen, have a wonderful time at the beach. The last time we did a beach trip it was VERY cold (like in the 30's), but brilliant sun (a winter rarity at the beaches here). We bundled up and walked a very long way and saw only a few other brave souls. We didn't have Ruby then. We've not taken her to the beach yet. We need to do that sometime.
Speaking of beach trips, the annual fundraising dinner/auction for our local shelter is tomorrow night, and there are a couple hotel stays on the auction block that I want to bid on. One is a beautiful dog-friendly place we went to a few years ago and have wanted to go back. It's an expensive place, but if I buy it at the auction, I feel like it's okay to spend the money since it goes to our favorite charity.
It's a costume/Halloween themed event. I'm wearing a vintage dress that I've had for 25+ years and have never worn. It belonged to an elderly lady who lived next door to my aunt. When she died, her kids were clearing out her apartment, and they were pitching all her clothes. I happened to be her size, so my aunt got several things for me, including this beautiful sequin dress. I got a feather boa and a cloche hat (1920's style), so I'll be Great Gatsby-ish. DH goes for gruesome costumes every year -- he gets really gross make-up done by someone who does theatre make-up. This year he's going to be a diseased Italian chef named Sal Monella.
Super foggy today -- how weird is it to need your windshield wipers on due to fog??
