    Monday chat 10-7

    Mondays are so hard sometimes.

(Starting a 2nd post so I can have pp breaks since they never work on the starter post)

Abbie and I failed our test yesterday. Again! Almost as soon as we started searching abbie came across about a dozen wild turkeys. She chased them for a bit, then scared up 3 deer. Yeah. Automatic failure.  I handled it wrong. I could tell she had super critter brain with the turkeys. I should have stopped the search and made her cool off for 5 mins to reset her brain. Anyway, now we have to work on chasing critters. If it is not one thing it's another! I was so stinking mad at her!

This week is going to be long.

Well, darn.  I'm sorry Abbie didn't pass this time.    This has been quite the struggle for you guys.

Rainy, gloomy and very windy here today.  I think fall and what follows are starting to blow into town.  Fall yes, but, I'm sure not ready for what follows.  Today is going to be very busy and hopefully, productive.

    Wishing everyone a great day.

Abbie, I'd have be distracted, too. Hang in there, Julie. You'll both get it right soon.

Weekend was slow by comparison, but I can't say I'm not glad to be done with the 2nd job for a while. It rained a lot and so I used the time indoors to catch up on those chores that have to be done but I put aside all summer.

Some of the hornets are finding a way into the house, so I spent time sucking them up with the vacuum. They're very slow moving now because of the cooler nights, so I should be able to spray behind the fascia very soon. One landed on DS but didn't sting him; he was freaking out like a 5 y.o. girl. Confused

Anyway, I hope Deb is having fun. I'd better start on the mountain of work.

Sorry about Abbie not passing her test. Had tons of salmon running up our river yesterday. Word got out and hordes of fishermen descended upon us. I'm not a fan of fishing and especially when many were just dangling the hooks in front of the fish and then trying to snag them....illegal but only saw one have any luck with it. Took the dogs down to the river with us and have a funny video of Corey trying to touch a fish and getting quite the scare when the fish takes off. The fish is as big as he is. Will post it to youtibe when I get the chance. Tom took videos with the camera. I had my phone and was going to take video with it until I dropped it into the river. Have it sitting in dried rice and am hoping it will be okay. Have a good Monday everyone.

Julie, that's a bummer about Abbie.  Hindsight is always cruel.  I've had so many dog experiences that made me think back and wish I'd handled things differently.  It's all a learning experience though I know that doesn't make you feel any better.

Tina, sorry but I had to chuckle about the hornet making your DS shriek like a girl.  I probably would have done the same thing. lol

Belle was trying to excavate under an unused igloo style doghouse this morning.  There must be some critter under there.  She was lifting the front side up with her head and then it would slide off and she'd try again.  She's not easily dissuaded from that sort of project and I had to drag her in the house.  Much to her dismay. lol

Good golly poor Belle not being able to finish her investigation!!

Julie its good that you understand your mistake and no doubt will be able to avoid this problem in the future. In an poor attempt to cheer you up, at least Abbie can likely be trained to behave properly whereas Bugsy would be a potentially insurmountable challenge LOL

I always pick on him but he's such a good boy these days - we went to a block party for dogs yesterday. Definitely nirvana for him.

Horrible Monday morning - its dreary and raining. I wasn't going to walk B this morning (our 5 am jaunt) but it was only drizzling so we headed out. However when we were about a 1/2 mile from home the heavens opened. He doesn't care about rain so he was like, 'oh wait I need to sniff this plant' I was like, "oh no you don't" LOL I was soaked by the time we got home and I had 3 huge mosquito bites on my legs. Grrr

Totally not enough coffee in the universe today.

Mom heads home tomorrow. DH got over his grumpies late Saturday. I am traveling tomorrow night for work and should be home Wednesday night however I may be there until Friday night. I get fairly tired of all the nonsense with scheduling - I cannot understand why its so difficult.

    best get to work

If it rained anything like it did here, you certainly did get soaked. Like you said ...the heavens opened.

Here's a link to Corey and the Salmon. Hopefully it will start at 3 minutes, as the best scare is at about 3 and a half minutes and the video is long, so decided to try to cut it short if someone wants to see the Corey boy's biggest scare. I think this salmon probably hit him when it took off. I got wet standing on the bank. We let him off the leash after this, as I figured then he was wise, or rather scared, enough not to go and get in the middle of them.

ROFLMBO at Corey!  That was priceless!  I'm still chuckling.  Corey decided the safest spot was on dry land!  :)

    • Gold Top Dog

ROFL - Loved the video!!! What a great place to take your dogs and how amazing is that to watch the salmon swimming up stream?!! Gorgeous!

I'm betting Belle will go right back to that Igloo the next time you let her out. Hopefully whatever was under there will have hightailed it somewhere else.

Julie - I'm sorry but agree with everyone that you and Abbie will figure this out. (((Hugs)))

Yep, I'd have screamed like a little girl too if a hornet had landed on me. I hope you held back the laughter until after you'd sucked it up with the vacuum :)

Shane had a 9 AM vet appt to check his mouth, so we went for a walk near the clinic first. He checked out just fine and we're back home now and heading out to do more yard work. I seem to be saying this every day lately but our weather is absolutely gorgeous. We'll probably hit 80 at some point today but mostly it's coolish but sunny. Perfect for being outside.

Oh my gosh, that video is hilarious!  Ruby would want to get that close, too --- and I have a feeling she'd have reacted the same way Corey did if one touched her.  That is just too funny.

Julie, I'm sorry you and Abbie didn't pass.  I'm sure it's no consolation, but I think it's incredibly admirable that you guys accomplish what you do . . . I can't even imagine how impossible it would be to keep Ruby focused on a task like that.  She gets distracted by scents in the dirt -- nevermind wild turkeys and deer!!

Speaking of active dogs, from this weekend --- I loved your photo, Karen, of Bugsy swimming while you kayaked.  He really has a dog's dream life.  He's more active than most humans I know (including myself)!

Having been stung more than once by wasps and yellow jackets, I don't blame your son for screaming like a girl, Tina.  However, it still would be fun to tease him a bit!  :-)

On my drive in this morning, I saw a motorcycle cop on the side of the road.  I figured he was issuing tickets, but then I saw something lying at his feet.  I knew immediately it was a dog.  I looked away quickly, but not before I saw that it was fairly large and  that he'd covered part of it with a towel or something.  I felt horrible the rest of the drive in.  I keep thinking how it may have suffered and how a person or family will learn of their loss (assuming it wasn't a stray).  :-(

On a lighter note, I'm glad Shane's mouth is better, Cathy.  Has he been cleared to chew on toys/bones again, or does he have to avoid them for a while?

Hi -- I've done something to foul up getting the "digest" (be it late it still brings me right here).  That's what I get for messing with "settings".

The story continues -- I swear I need to take a job application as "weather-dog" for Charlie to all the major networks.  He is completely infallible.  It rained most of the afternoon and evening yesterday and I told David "he NEEDS to go out -- he hasn't been "out" since about 1:00 p.m." and it was about 9:00 and he'd EATEN since then.

David said "he'll tell us -- not only is it raining now the auto-sprinklers are on so he is NOT going to voluntarily go out now!"

About 20 minutes later -- Charlie goes to David and ASKS to go out.     Sprinklers done running and it had to be the only break in the rain since mid-afternoon.

    Charlie knew!!

When evil rain falls from the sky and when the dumb humans make water come up out of the ground (duh while it's already RAINING?) a lil black & white spaniel apparently has to look out fur himself!!

But he is good.   Again yesterday -- I tried to get him to go out when Luna and Tink went out about  4:00 -- Charlie went to the door -- looked out .. turned to me and I swear his lips moved "Sorry Mom -- not now".

Literally 2 minutes later "BLAM!!!!!!!" Thunder and it started to pour.Umbrella     Lightning

    me: Huh?

I did my best. This is the same young man who ran screaming into the house when he found a dead squirrel in the yard while mowing. Like it was going to get up and hurt him.

wow that is amazing Maureen!! I don't think I could enjoy it if I had B with me though - he doesn't tend to have 'sense' when it comes to moving living things Tongue Tied

Cathy very glad Shane is healing!!

    • Gold Top Dog

    Oh Abbie. Sad

limbo Corey! (although I would have probably had the same reaction!) Is the water always that shallow?

When DH gets up to get ready for work (before the sunrise), he always lets Rupert out. Then Rupert comes back to bed with me. The other day, unbeknownst to Rupert, it was raining. DH opened the door and Rupert went flying out, tried to stop but his momentum made his rear end fly up so he stopped in a handstand, waited for his rear end to fall back down to Earth, then he spun around and came flying back in the house. "I can wait Dad, I'm going back to bed!" lol
