Moaning Monday - August 26

I'm just now checking out the new site and feel totally lost. Based on the # of other posts, I'm guessing others must feel lost too...or I haven't found the other posts yet.

Had a great visit with my friend but felt super sad when I woke up this morning and more so when I dropped her off at the airport. I had to hug her quickly in leave or I'd have had a complete meltdown. Cleaning and trying to stay busy but it seems far too quiet here right now. It didn't help matters that I know what kind of life she's going back to and I'd love to help her out of that.

I hope everyone is doing well and you get some cooler temps Sarah. It was 100ish for a few days while my friend was visiting but mostly it was in the low 90s and we spent a lot of time outside. I think we're only supposed to be in the mid-80s by the end of the week. I know the crews working the massive fire near Yosemite will be happy for some relief.

I would guess people are feeling lost and don't want to sift through years' old posts to find what is current. Even the hot topics listed to the right aren't hot. How long has it been since Shelly posted?

Weekend was hot but otherwise uneventful here.

Yeah, I went to a thread I thought was new and it was from 2007. My old brain is going to take a long time to figure this out.

Yea, I'm assuming people are avoiding the new format for now.  Either that or I am not finding new threads, which is also possible.

I am so furious w/ Sallie Mae right now.  I called 2 weeks ago b/c they sent me an email saying I was past due.  I knew that wasn't true so I logged on to check and its all messed up.  Called CS and they said "Oh that was our mistake we distributed your payment incorrectly, we'll get that changed."  Ok, glad you recognize your mistake and are going to fix it.  Checked last week, still not fixed, so I called again and was told it would be done w/ in 48 hours.  48 hours was Friday, as of today it is still wrong and when I called I was left on hold for over 10 minutes and then the call disconnected.  Not happy.....

Hannah had her first day of school today.  3rd grade already...  Had to crop the pic WAY down for size, but here she is :D

I know that they are working on the chronology of everything as that has been the biggest "constructive criticism".

Cathy - I'm so glad you had a great visit with your friend.  I have to curb drop people at the airport as I can't do a long good-bye.  I'm sure that your support will give her the courage to get out of her situation if the time is right.  Just be there for her.

Back to angry installer calling me because nothing is working this morning.

Sigh.

I tried to check in a couple times over the weekend, but between the frustrations at not being able to easily find where I wanted to be and the apparent lack of activity, I decided to stay away until now.  The good thing is that meant that I did other productive things over the weekend that didn't involve sitting at the laptop.  The bad thing is that could become a permanent habit if things don't get easier for me with this new format.  I wonder how many others will steer away if it's not user-friendly?

Sarah, I'm sorry you've got such heat . . . if I were a kid, I'd want to avoid playing outside in the hot temps, too.  Time for some slow-paced indoor activities!  I also hope your server issues get resolved.  Computer issues on a Monday = not a good combination!

Cathy, I'm glad you had such a nice visit with your friend.  Believe me, I understand what you mean about the sadness upon their departure.  The airport goodbye is the worst.  I remember when my closest friend came out a few years ago with her husband and 2 young kids.  We had a wonderful week, and saying goodbye at the airport was so hard.  My friend and I got all teary when we hugged, and when I went to hug her kids, I noticed they got all teary from watching us!  Going back to the quiet house is depressing, too, especially when you don't know when you'll get to be together again.  Funny how that's my reaction when it's my dearest friends, but not DH's family.  That's more of a mini-party when they depart!

Tina, did you change your avatar picture?  I didn't want to assume you did -- with this crazy new format, I wondered if it somehow changed on its own or something. 

For the record, I want things to go back to the way they used to be!

My friend talked me into going to church yesterday. There was a mega-church in the area that I'd heard great things about, so we went there. It's one of those churches that has a cafe and you can bring your mocha or whatever into the sanctuary. Most people were dressed like they were going to a picnic and it just had a fun vibe. The rock band was loud and not very good though, so neither of us cared for that but the pastor was a fantastic speaker and super funny. I could've listened to him all day. Other than weddings and funerals, that was the 1st time we'd ever been to church together, so it was a different experience and I know it made her very happy.

Tracy, I did change my avatar. That's an anteater standing on its back legs. I thought it looked like he was trying to hug someone. The picture I had of Agnes was not the best quality and because the forum format change enlarged the picture, it was blurry. And I couldn't edit it further on my computer to make it smaller, so I put the anteater in her place.

Even though I am posting using rich text I noticed the signatures don't show up anymore.

It does look like he's hugging someone!  I think he's a cute little guy.  I noticed my photo seemed blurrier, too.  I suppose I could change mine one of these days, too.  One step at a time.  It's all I can do to find a current thread!

Yay for Hannah!  Have the best school year yet!!!!

She was so excited!  I went to wake her this AM and when I walked in she was already dressed and ready.  She was a little concerned that her outfit wouldn't meet dress code (they have a new, more strict one this year and there is a lot of "gray area";) and I wasn't sure but we decided to try it. The school never called so I assume its ok.

Currently on the phone w// Sallie Mae for the 3rd time, to say its not going well is an understatement.

I cant believe how grown up Hannah is.  She is a beauty...you and her Daddy are gonna have to beat those nasty ole boys off with a stick, lol.  Sorry your have trouble with Sallie Mae but I will say I dont think it matters who it is, I have had the same problems with Wells....

I am starting my vacation when I leave here today.  It is once again Labor Day holiday at the Phillips household.  The kids, grandkids, great grandkids(1st time for Baby Lo) nephews, neices, ect.... they will all be arriving from Wed-Sunday.  I look forward to this every year but when they all leave I am so exhausted.  That is why I picked Labor day for my holiday....we can spend a lot of time outside.

I hate this new format. I want to find today's chat without sifting through crap.

Tomorrow's my birthday. I think unfortunately, I have to go get my allergy shots, because I have no other time this week. I think I also have to go do stupid supervision too. I hate going to this place.
