a video of my 6 yr old granddaughter giving a tutorial of chopping vegetables on FB.  Maybe I ought to get off FB.

Did you learn anything from it?  You need to learn at least one new thing each day to stay young -- and to keep up with a 6 y o!

LOL, yes, I learned it is OK to pick up[ a dropped piece and put it back it the mix...no rinsing required!

It makes me cringe .. we have reared an entire generation of kids who, literally at a heartbeat cop a "cute" pose, heads together and HUGE pasted-on grins because everyone has a camera with them (or a cell phone with a camera) ALL the time.

Videos aren't 'candid' -- because when you see them being done you hear parents yelling stage directions "Hold hands and RUN away from the camera all together and that can be the final seen in the videography we'll put together"

(that heard on Easter Sunday when David and I were strolling in the Gardens at Bok Tower while a family of 8 were videoing War and Peace ... or maybe it was some other major motion picture that likely found it's way to FB by that evening LOL)   That Mom orchestrated every inch of that video -- that was just supposed to be some candid shot of the kids playing on Easter morning. LOL

or in this case maybe "this time keep your hands to the side so people can see what your hands are doing ... and keep the veggies in symmetrical groups showing the colors so it's more interesting for the viewer"

(or whatever instructions she'd been given -- but she snuck the piece back on the board but didn't call attention to it so as not to break the continuity of the video???  *raising eyebrow*????)

Nope - you can't just have friends over to "watch home movies" -- nope now we gotta put everything on FB and the parents are all Francis Ford Coppla wanna-be's trying to keep the videos "visually pleasing".  Where did we lost "just wave to Grandma and tell her 'Hi' "???

I get it Marti -- sometimes it sneaks up on me and I realize somewhere along the line I must have gotten a bit stodgey??? LOL

LOL I feel the same way, I know I'm stodgy.

LOL!  I think it sounds really cute.  At least with FB you don't have to watch (unless you're a grandma lol) but with the old home movies I can remember some torturous experiences that seemed like they would never end.  I remember the adults trying to stay awake and the kids fidgeting and cracking jokes until they got "the look" from one of the adults.

Firefox is not letting me "quote" this morning

" but with the old home movies I can remember some torturous experiences that seemed like they would never end."

Oh yeah -- I can remember a Christmas with my ex's family -- we all had to 'watch' the re-run of the kids opening their presents from that very morning. The video camera had been a Christmas gift -- and I think by the end of the day we'd watched fully half of the day over again -- it felt like the movie "Groundhog Day" in real life. sheesh

Marty, that's pretty funny.  In our house, if something falls on the floor while chopping fruits or veggies, it goes to Ruby.  She doesn't mind a bit of dirt!  In fact, if the cutting board comes out, she parks herself right next to the counter, waiting for a treat.

It does seem like kids are very comfortable in front of video cameras, unlike some of us older folks who weren't raised with them.  I've got a couple friends whose kids are very relaxed talking in front of groups or approaching strangers (like when they sell items for school or do fundraising for our shelter, etc.).  They have more confidence in those situations, and I wonder if it has something to do with being filmed fairly often from a very early age.
