Too funny, Deb!  I get choked up at a lot of commercials, too, especially ones with animals or little kids in them.  Just one more example of how the advertisers and marketers emotionally manipulate (brainwash?) us!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and I didn't have to work it!!!.

Boasting day: The Honey Crisps are doing well:

Tomato, either a Big Brandy or a Brandy Boy--about 6" across:

Grapes, from the vine named Alexander:

    The big garden:

Must be that time of the week. Had to watch where I walked.

    Really?  That's an actual term?

Tracy, here is one brief blurb about it. http://www.webmd.com/beauty/style/vanity-sizing. Personally, I've worn a size 10 since about age 16. Since then I've gone up to a 12, and am now down to an 8. I'm pretty much the same height and weight I was at age 16. There was a period of time when I was about 25lbs heavier (fatter), but have managed to get back to my usual weight, which hovers between 140 and 148 pounds. I'm 5'8" tall. I work out, so my shape is different than it once was. Muscle mass weighs more than fat, and although am wearing an 8 in most things, I can say I believe what was a size 10 is now geared closer to a 12. I have items that are size 12, but after I lost the weight, they are huge, as in clownishly so. Everyone knows that a size 10 made in China is different from that made in America, Mexico, or Pakistan.

Really, has anyone ever wondered why women's clothing is in silly numbers ranging from 0 - 36, but men's clothing, at least pants, come in waist and length size? I know, as a woman, I would not want to tell someone that I have a 40 inch waist, and marketers know this, too. We women are too hard on ourselves and each other.

    Anyway...

Deb, I'm not sure what track it was at, but last Saturday I saw that a horse named "Kate is a Ten" was running somewhere. If I hadn't been working, I'd have thrown a couple bucks on her.

    "Kate is a Ten"

Yeah, she usually runs at Belmont - I think Mr. W usually throws some money on her, but I don't thinks she's ever had a big win yet.

Thanks for that link, Tina.  Very interesting point about them having to add super-small sizes now in order to include petite women.  I've seen sizes like 0 and 00 in stores like Ann Taylor, I think.

I was just thinking this when looking at some Docker's pants at Kohl's for DH the other day.

Random topic:  I made marinara sauce 2 nights ago, and I peeled and chopped several garlic cloves.  I've washed my hands 900 times since then, but my fingers still smell like garlic.  Luckily it's not too strong, but I've scratched my nose a few times and noticed it!

Tracy, I've read or heard somewhere that rubbing fresh lemon on your fingers/hands will get rid of the garlic odor. I can neither confirm nor deny this.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'll give it a try when I get home.  I'd much rather smell like lemon than garlic!

Speaking of produce -- Doug, your garden looks fantastic (and delicious)!  You could open a mini-farmer's market right in your yard!

Tracy, vinegar will most likely work also.

Deb, I cry at Hallmark commercials. Especially the one of two grown sisters helping their Dad pack up his house and they find all the cards they gave him over the years.

The whole thing just makes me want to drink. Wait, it Friday? Yes! I shall be the one consuming alcohol and playing Settlers of Catan tonight! Whoooot!!!!!

I have started buying garlic already chopped in a jar...found in the produce section.  Works just fine!

I've been buying it that way for quite some time. Mainly because the fresh garlic I'd buy would always be dried out by the time I wanted to use it.

I did yet more weeding out front but at least one side of the flower bed looks really amazing now. My back wasn't happy though.

I've painted a few of the metal sculptures the former owner left behind and it's been really fun. I have a few larger ones that I want to take my time on and especially the butterfly. They really do add a nice pop of color with some paint on them.

I'm off to an early dinner with DH's family. It FIL's 80th BD tomorrow. He's trying to downplay it and said "who wants to celebrate turning 80?" and I thought "probably a lots of people" but I didn't say it...yet :)

That would involve sharing. My wife had a group of her friends down and they made some flavored vinegars. Sounds simple (it is) and almost meaningless, but it does change a salad.

We are getting low on applesauce and grape jam also. These find their way into presents for friends and family. I would like to try for some wine, but we never seem to have enough grapes.

We have bread, bacon, and lettuce. The tomatoes have a destiny to fulfill.

You don't really need to peel garlic.  If you use the flat part of the knife, place it on the garlic and give it a good push, it flattens the garlic and the skins pop right off.  I typically trim off the smidge at the bottom first.  So, no skins, and the garlic is already mushed and ready to mince.  A good tip for storing garlic is to drop them into a clean panty hose leg and tie a knot between the globes or whatever they are called. Just hang it in a coolish, not overly bright area.  When I first lived in GA a farmer gave me that idea for storing vidallia onions.  Worked like a charm.  Altho, admittedly, people do think you're a bit odd if they happen across a nylon full of onions or garlic......

I will be sooooo very glad when I can share what's going on with work.  Very hard to stay quiet about it.

    Doug....I covet your gardens!
