    TGIF

     I think.

Busy day ahead - evening and nighttime storms have brought in a slightly drier air. This means my dog is bouncing off the walls, not good when I have a busy day like this.

I ran him around the yard and will hope for the best

    That's all I've got

    Deb, drink of the day??

Finally got Dad moved to another nursing home, yesterday afternoon.  Had to call the Ombudsman's Office to get things moving, the 'old' facility was dragging their feet for 8 days.  Stressful day, but got it done.

AND . . .the new boy is staying!   I did ask wo close friends for their input, and both agreed I need to move him on. And of course, he is staying. His name: Tony! I'm already calling him Tony - pup, lol.

    Several reasons he is staying:
I had a long phone conversation with the foster mom last evening. She has 7 dogs, only 2 are hers, one is a long term rescue been w/ her 3 years and not likely going to be adopted. Yes she saw the photos and says he would be adopted. She only had 6 dogs yesterday morning, and then suddenly a dog was returned to her after 2 years. (WHO does these things?! Nothing 'wrong,' they are expecting a baby and felt with 2 children already, the dog would not get the attention he needs. They showed up at her door unannounced to return him) She has another dog arriving on Sat, and then this boy would arrive on Sun and she'd have 9 dogs. She does not have a fenced in yard so they are either inside or on leash for walkies.

This boy -- Tony -- is used to being outside ALL DAY. Yes he is adjusting well to being indoors but I wonder if being an indoor only dog would be too much for him all at once.

He adapts easily, has already blended in with my pack. All that crazy peeing has stopped, Willy no longer needs his belly band. Tony is wearing his just because, I'll keep it on him till after his neuter. Could he become an indoor only dog? I think so. I worry about these babies, giving them too much change too soon, having them shut down, or develop behavior issues.

She would not be able to get him neutered till the following Monday; naturally her vet will want to see him once first. We both agreed the earlier he is neutered, the better chance he will drop this marking behavior a LOT. And at age 3 years, a week may or may not make a difference, neither of us knows.

She said she will be there if I find I can't manage (as if!), which is nice to know.

I had the 4 to the Farm yesterday afternoon. Tony was on a long line, 25 feet, and LOVED it!

To Mary Ellen and Lin, I'm sorry, I really DID value your opinions and input; and intend to move him for many reasons each of you listed. Then this phone call with the foster mom and . . . I caved in.

Glad you got your dad moved, Sandie. And it sounds as though you did not make the decision to keep Tony lightly. He's very lucky to have you!

Bugsy, be good for your mom. You know she'll make up playtime as soon as she can!

Jackie, I hope your work bid goes a bit more smoothly.

Tracy, I hope you got some sleep. And there is nothing better than being greeted by a slurpy dog tongue!

Cathy, I hope you can get that smell out of your yard (and your head)!

So far my check run was a disaster; I did something wrong building my batch. Just when I thought this upgraded software was a cinch, it proved me wrong. Good thing I packed some chocolate in my lunch.

Sandie - Congratulations on your new addition. Toby is one lucky dog to have landed in your home. I'm glad your dad was moved too and hope the new place works out better for all.

The pool chemicals are FINALLY balanced!! Poor DH has worked on getting them there for over a week, including adding 20 50lb bags of salt so the salt chlorinator would start working. Now that it is, we won't have to worry about adding liquid chlorine - yay!!! The dead whatever stench is still there but either getting a little better or I'm getting used to it. I'd prefer to think it's fading away.

A friend is in charge of an open house/luncheon at HartSong tomorrow. I wanted to go but didn't want to drive by myself, so I begged her to let me help somehow and ride with her :). I'm really excited to meet the new arrivals which include a donkey and blind pony that were transported from Mexico recently.

I have a lot to do today but mostly I want to do more work in the garden before it warms up. Our mornings are in the 60s, so it's a good time to be outside.

    Happy Friday, finally.

Sandie so glad things are turning around in your world. The best to your Dad and your new little Tony.  Life can be so hard at times and good in the end, let's hope it keeps traveling further in that direction for you.

I have off today (babysitting Freida, yep - pretty expensive babysitter she gets-don't want to risk another pulled tooth with her being left without Abby)

Abby is at the vet, getting x-rayed, she is still limping and with her being 8 yrs old (I thought she was 5, time sure flys) I figured it is better to get the leg looked at since it has damage from birth. It has always been fine, except she would skip sometimes, but this limping is bothering me.

I picked three kinds of garden beans and snapped and got them ready for the freezer. Glad that is done, for this week at least. My favorite are the burgandy beans..

I am hot, it is already 75 degrees here, so looks like we will get some sunshine today for sure.

Hope everyone has a great Friday. I am going to go sew on a quilt or something, while missy here sleeps.

I would post a pic of her, but I don't know how to post a pic inside a post.

Sandie that rocks -- sounds like a solid decision. And I'm SO glad you got your Dad moved!!

If I remember correctly two years ago today was Hurricane Irene (where the evil water came from the sky and washed Charlie's whole world away and left him hiding in a house flooded up above the 2d floor??). In so many ways we needed Charlie as much as he needed us and we were all 'ready' for each other. *grin*

Dunno if any of you saw this yesterday -- this 'rescuer' ... *shaking head and smiling* for some odd reason she reminds me of ME. I just wish I was independantly wealthy enough to stay home in order to DO what this lady is doing!! Sorry - I can't make a link in Firefox:

    Deb, drink of the day??

Well, this has been a trying week for me and a couple of the other i-doggers here.  So, I wanted something cold, easy to make and able to get me knackered post-haste:

    Soothing Southern Comfort

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 cup Southern Comfort
    • cups 7 Up
    • 2 whole limes (juice and 2 thin slices removed from limes)

    Garnish

    • 2 cherries

    Directions:

    1. In a shaker filled with ice shake southern comfort and lime juice till well frosty cold.
    2. Pour into highball glasses that are filled with ice.
    3. Top with soda and garnish with lime and cherry

    This recipe says it makes 4 cocktails - bwhahahahahahaha !!  I say 1 maybe 1 1/2 tops !!!  ( I own some really, really big glasses. )

Hope everybody enjoys the weekend !!

Yay for Tony!  Sandie, sounds like you made the best decision for him and I'm so glad he's settling in so well.  Great that you got your Dad moved too.

Mare, I hope they figure out what's causing Abbey's limp.  Hot day here too.  We were at 80 at 6:00AM and we'll be over a 100 by this afternoon.

Tomorrow we may go to the botanical gardens for dog days in the park.  We'll have to go early or it will be too hot to enjoy.  I don't know why they don't schedule this for Spring.  It is pretty fun to watch all the dogs getting in the various water features and fountains to cool off.  Big SmileToo bad so many owners don't pick up after their dogs at these things.  I always feel like the poop police handing out dirty looks and poop bags.

Deb, hope your weekend is relaxing and if you can't finish off your tub of drinks, give me a call. :)  Who am I kidding?  Make two tubs of that and I'll see you later.

Tina, the bid torture continues but yesterday we got the worst of it done.  We'll do some fine tuning and then I'll type it all up and get all the other two billion documents together that have to accompany the bid.  Sorry to hear your check run went bad.  Chocolate will help.

Sandie congrats! and Tony you struck gold! Very glad your dad is moved too!

Jackie & Tina I am sorry work is so crummy right now.

Deb that is a single serving I agree although 2 cups of soda would make me ill

Bugsy won and I wound up taking him on a short and very hot walk. He was staring at me and every time I moved he'd jump up and start wagging and whining - it was too much for my nerves so I took him out. He's crashed now

    JackieG

You go girl! I just can't comprehend why people don't realize that when they don't clean up for their dog they endanger these events because whomever has to do the cleanup often decides its too much work.

my project was moving along until I realized that I had to crop and change the file format of each screenshot - there's an 45 minutes I won't get back.

Deb -- that's close enough to a bourbon & ginger for me (and it's RARE when I want the hard stuff). At this point the word "ice" and "lime" in the same sentence wins. I'm going to join Jackie and Tina in the work gripe mode. Reports are due, it's "my" job, and minutia & emails keep flooding my desk and I can't get nuffing done. grump grump.

mainly cuz you folks are nutty

Sandie, that's one of the main reasons WHY I post in chat.  Sometimes it's the only source of humor I have in my day (especially if it's a work day).  Big Smile

I'm so glad to hear that Tony is going to be a permanent member of your fur-pack.  What a lucky boy he is!  And I can't remember if it was in your post here or your other thread, but I was also glad to hear that your Dad is settled into a new nursing home.  I hope he is comfortable there and that you can have some peace of mind knowing he's not in the old location.

Speaking of nursing homes, when I was in CT, I visited with a dear friend (her family is how/why I met my DH --- I went to school with a couple of the kids, and DH was in the Marines with one of her sons).  She's in her 80's and is temporarily in a care home recovering from a health issue.  When we knocked on her room's door, we heard a loud bark.  She has a Labradoodle, but we had no idea he'd be there with her.  He can't stay overnight, but family members drop him off for long visits during the day.  He just sits right by her side, watching every move when the nurse came in for meds, etc.  It's perfect for both of them -- he'd be a wreck alone at her house, and she'd be much lonelier without him in the nursing home.  What a great facility to allow that!

The i-Dog vacationers are totally off-line, right?  I wondered it anyone saw anything from them on FB that you could share with us non-FB folks, but maybe they're enjoying a totally unplugged getaway.

I slept like a rock last night, so I feel a bit better, but far from 100%.  I can't wait to get another good night's sleep tonight.  I feel like I'm on the edge of a cold or something, so I need to replenish my system as much as possible.  I don't plan to do anything but watch a little TV this evening.  No wild Friday night for me!
