Saturday! YaaaaY!

    Saturday! YaaaaY!

    Except that I'm working today.

I do get to work in my pajamas though.

I can't tell you how stoked I am that I got to start the thread today. It's been a VERY long time since I had the honor.

Of course, the feeling I have might also be from that first gulp of coffee hitting my system.

Mmm coffee. I need some of that.

I should be working today too but I don't get paid to do that. So that is a draw back.

I turned my ac off! Yay. It probably won't last long but I wanted some fresh air this morning even if it is humid.

I lost my shirt in poker last night then strung the last person along on the last hand then went all in. She was too committed at that point to back out and I won with 3 aces. Woop! In the end, I only lost $5 for the night. Can't complain too bad I guess.

I love playing poker. I wish I knew some folks that wanted to play around here.

I opened windows and ran the whole house fan but will be closing things up soon. It's perfect right now but will be 102 later today. I need to get out and brush the pool before it gets too hot. It was about 100 when I did it yesterday and it about killed me. It's quite a workout and I couldn't help but wish I could just jump in and do it from inside the pool. Probably won't be able to do that for another few days though.

It's going to be pretty hot here today but not in the 100's.  We already took the dogs out early and they're tired and napping.  DH mowed the lawn and vacuumed.  I've been doing laundry and reading.  Nice relaxing day with no commitments other than enjoying my day off.  I might go to the farmers market while DH is watching golf.  I should get my hair cut if she can fit me in.

Had a cute little tree frog on my sliding glass door this morning.  Moved him to safety.  He peed on me in gratitude. :)

Being laaaaazeeeeee this morning. Watching the golf and catching up on some reading.

After lunch DH and I are going to the lake to participate in a cleanup event. Hard to tell the lead organizer but its sponsored by Leinenkugel beer and there is a fish fry with beer afterward. Apparently several canoe & kayak clubs have signed up and as of yesterday they had 70+ people signed up. I've not done anything like this before but since its the lake I use and its around the corner I was happy to sign up. The lake and surrounding land isn't very dirty but hey how great to make it cleaner!

    Hopefully it won't storm :)

We're at flyball this weekend. Luke wasn't very good in his first race, but the team was great, and hopefully we'll have it fixed for the next one. This reminds me of how much I don't like my team at home.

I apparently screwed up on booking my room, and I booked for next weekend instead of this. When we checked in, they only had a room for last night (thankfully) and we had to check this morning for another room. Luckily, they did have one, but not the same one, so we had to pack up, and we have to check in again tonight. I did book something last night somewhere else just in case, but it was expensive, and further away. I cancelled that this morning when they said they had something at the same place for tonight. It was creepy last night though. I'm assuming they were drunk, but at some point, some guy tried to get into the room. Luckily, I did have the door bolted.

Love those little tree frogs. Haven't seen or heard one in awhile but remember back a few years when we could hear one singing in the trees. Seemed to go on most of the night..least until I dropped off to sleep.

Just had quite a down pour here. Feeling bad for our volunteer firemen, as it is our Volunteer Firemen Field Days this weekend and the weather isn't being too nice to them. We always have one of the biggest, if not the biggest Parade and Field Days in the county. Temperature Thursday night for the parade was a killer, as it was around 90 degrees. It's quite some distance for them to march too. Least all band members appeared to be wearing what they wanted and didn't have to wear the heavy uniforms like we had to way back when. They also have water carriers, who are pulling a cooler and walking right along with the band, carrying spray bottles as well. Great idea and don't know why no one thought of that when I was marching with the school band. Hoping this rain will end so that the firemen will have a good night for their last night. I think they have something going on Saturday afternoon as well, so hope the rains ends a bit sooner than tonight.

Maureen, I remember marching in local July 4th parades as a Girl Scout when I was a kid -- in hot, humid CT weather -- and those polyester uniforms were NOT suitable for hot temperatures!.  No one was misting us with water, either!  Ah, the good ol' 1970's when no one really spent a lot of time wondering how to keep kids as safe and comfortable as possible!

Jen, sorry you had to play "musical rooms."  Enjoy the rest of the flyball tournament!

The lake clean-up event sounds fun, Karen.  Many hands make light work, or whatever that phrase is.  The added bonus of some tasty food, and the project will be much more enjoyable than it might be otherwise.

We're hosting a course in a Progressive Dinner tonight.  We and 2 other friends agreed to be the hosts, and we auctioned the evening off at our humane society's annual auction last fall.  Luckily, the highest bidders were a couple we know fairly well, and 4 of their friends.  Each house is a country, and I chose Spain -- I figured we could do tapas, which would require less cooking than the main course (and, we'll be first, so the guests won't be tipsy, nor will they linger as long as they would if we were Belgium -- the final course, desserts.

I'm totally stressed out because I have to get the house cleaned, get the food together, I don't have nice serving dishes and such, etc.  To add even more pressure, one of the guests is a chef who has owned a local kitchen store for 30 years.  We've taken classes at his shop, so he knows us, but we know what kind of cook he is and the gorgeous home he lives in . . . our attempt at authentic Spanish tapas on our meager patio won't even come close to what he's capable of!

Oh well -- off for a walk with Ruby and a friend, then on to the long To Do List.  I'll be glad when the evening is over!

Tracy - I don't blame you for feeling stressed but it sounds like a really great idea and a fun time. Do you get to go to Belgium for dessert? My brother and his wife have done progressive dinners with neighbors and I always thought it sounded like a fun time and a good way to get to know people. Maybe someone will want to do that around here. If so, I hope I get appetizers too.

My hair appt got moved to 1 instead of 3, so I'm hoping to get home in time for a nap. I'm very sleepy.

Wheeeeeew! I woke up with a wild hair and white tornadoed the crap out of this place. I even vacuumed the stairs, which only gets done a few times a year. Embarrassed The kids did help pick up a bit.

We do the bin system, and they're only supposed to have one or two bins out at a time, but eventually random stuff gets scattered throughout the house. So everything got all put back and tidied up. Honestly, they play so much better when the house is clean, and they can focus on playing with the one bin that is out.

So now Sonja's down for a nap, I'm getting a little veg out computer time, and Willa's watching a movie. Hopefully she zonks out too.

We're eating at the other 2 houses after the "auction winners" leave.  So, after they leave House #2 (Russia/Beef Stroganoff), we'll go there to eat leftovers.  Then when they leave House #3 (Belgium), we and the #2 hosts will go to #3 and all 6 of us will eat desserts and whatever Stroganoff is left, which we'll bring with us.

It could be a very late night, but I'm not missing those desserts.  My friend who is making those could open a bakery -- or win one of those baking shows on TV -- her stuff is that good and professional.  I'll try to take some photos so I can share them tomorrow.

Lazy day here too. We are in the 70's after a week near 90 it feels so good.  cloudy but no rain, which we really need.

I found a new groomer about a 1/2 mile from our house (usually I drive 17 miles to the groomer), I am going to give her a try - she just moved her business to work out of her house (or should I say palace), she is also a artist which I happen to own a few of her prints - so when did she become a groomer.  But she has a nice salon and she is insured and licensed.  Will see how Abby likes her.

I am going to sew today no matter what, ever since we got Freida I haven't been able to sew on any of my quilts (which is my life saver) only because she was demanding attention, so now that she is settling down and can entertain herself or nap, I am going to get her use to me having "me time".

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far, I am not doing much of anything today, but I am enjoying it.

We have temp relief here too. I am loving it. I just kept fans running all day so I could keep the doors and windows open. At various times one dog or another wouldgo iout and lay on the deck. They haven't been blessed to do that in a few weeks :)

I finally got my road bike fixed! I had to replace the back tire because steel was showing through. Well the YouTube videos I watched made it look so easy. I shouldhave nnoted that each video was a young guy. That was freaking horrible on my hands. I ended up bleeding a bit but I got it done Rawr! The front tire will be done by a paid professional though :p

Same here, Mare.  It's been a nice relaxing day.

I did get my hair cut and it needed it badly.  She did a good job and we both had a good cry. lol I know that sounds a little odd but she shared a family situation that had her upset and I told her something that happened in my family that was very similar.  We both felt better afterwards.  I love when women can support each other and let each other cry without trying to fix anything.

It was a great day. It was SUPER hot, heat index well over 100 but we all survived. Quite a wide variety of people turned up, some never left the trail and didn't do much and others were super and clearly saw collecting as a contest. Also loved seeing some children there with their parents, two sisters were excited each time they found something lol. 720lbs of trash was collected, which sounds like a lot but it didn't look like much and everyone commented on how clean the lake is. There is a connecting pond that allows bank fishing and that was the worst of it. Nearly all the trash was fishing related and beer cans. Made me mad but when I looked around and saw all the people collecting I felt better. *** Leinenkugel of Leinenkugel beer flew in from WI for the event which was the first one in the Carolinas. I am still amazed that 'my' little lake was selected somehow. Afterwards they had a little bluegrass group playing on the deck that overlooks the lake, and beer from Leinenkugel and some fabulous food from a fish fry place. We ate and drank and chatted - and watched a squirrel eat a fried shrimp it found. :)

Only downside was walking through more spider webs than I care to count or recall

Tracy I hope all goes well tonight

Sounds like most everyone had a good day
