    Toosday chat

Miserably hot and humid here like most of the US, I imagine.

I was supposed to go up to one of our big bridges today to check things out, which would have been fun, but....other priorities are getting in the way. And, I don't really want to drive 2 hrs to get there then sit through a meeting first. I would rather just ride a helicopter over, land on the bridge, check things out and fly back ;p 1 hr and I'd call it good!

ok, back to reality. I'm still in shock over what I paid for grooming. Bad grooming at that. I found a mat behind abbie's ear this morning. This is on top of the undercoat mats that her and Neiko still had. I'm annoyed enough to call and complain. I'm definitely going to take them back. It was way too much money to not make them do it over.

The good news is that I weighed them yesterday and they are each 48-50 lbs which is ideal. yay. The girls got a bit chubby over the winter. I  switched Abbie's food back to honest kitchen last week and she has stopped licking her paws. So, that's good too!

I just accidentally closed my post. Grr....

We're in an excessive heat warning until Friday night. Yuck. I thought about walking Luke over to the nursing home today, because he hasn't been in weeks due to my work schedule being different. However, no, not in excessive heat. It's only a 10-15 minute walk, but that's about 9-14 too long for him today. For now, I am sitting around waiting for word on my car. Knowing this place, they won't call me and tell me, and I will have to hound them. They also rarely call with an estimate. They'd better this time, because I won't pay it if it's a ton. Hopefully I can have it back today and it's safe to go on the trip. If not, I can't pack until Friday afternoon. If I have to take a rental, I'll have to pick it up first thing when Enterprise opens on Friday morning and then head to work.

Julie, I would definitely be back for them to fix the job, then never again.

I switch Luke around to different flavors of food sometimes, and found he is much better on chicken. I don't know if he ever had the duck and turkey or salmon flavors (he eats Nature's Variety) but he's not doing beef anymore.

Julie I saw the grooming thing on FB - I too would call to complain and have the one that did the good job do the others. They should offer you at least two free grooms to compensate!

*doing the happy dance* Its sunny again Big Smile I don't care how hot it is and how much I perspire its SUNNY!!

I finally slept last night and feel so much better for it. I don't have anything urgent today and plan on chilling a bit. I have had something that had to be done every day (weekends included) for weeks and weeks so today the only thing I have to do is go to Costco. Sure I have work to do but instead of being pressured to squeeze it in, I don't think it will take more than a few hours.

I should take B to the lake but we'll see

So last night, DH & I both finally sleeping well (we've been coughing all night with this crud), and at 1am the battery went in the smoke alarm. After peeling myself off the ceiling I removed it and the batteries and it took a bit to get back to sleep

Julie I hope the FEMA money arrives sooner rather than later. Apparently NJ residents got theirs but the LI,NY folks haven't seen any yet. Its been NINE months that they have been at my mom's - at least they can be there. The people without family are really screwed. They stopped paying for them being displaced in March. In my brother's neighborhood a few families are illegally living in their unrepaired homes :(

eww Julie -- bad groom.  WE have *one* groomer we go to & I've followed her from shop to shop cos she's good.  2 things miff me -- having stuff "missed" or having the animals traumatized when I pick them up.  grrr  - not only did they not do it right, it's a total inconvenience for you!

Karen, glad you're feeling a bit better.

Jen, I hope your car is nothing major.

David's schedule got weirder than it was supposed to.  Worked mega late, & at 10:45 pm he got the call to come back to work.   He got home about 5:00 a.m., got 3 hours of sleep and by 8:30 was on his way back to work.  I'm exhausted just seeing him come & go.  I'm glad these computer conversions aren't frequent.  The dogs just thot it all TOO weird!!

Rainy again this morning. :)  It's nice that it's keeping our temps down too.  I feel for those in the NE dealing with the heatwave.

The Weim here in the office has a new stuffed toy.  Every time I get on the phone he starts squeaking it.  I've had to explain to everyone that it's a dog squeaky toy.  lol

One of our newer guys told me yesterday he couldn't get off the roof because it was raining too hard.  Huh?

Julie, I saw your FB post about the bad grooming job.  Stinks to pay that much for a crappy job. Even if they make it right, it's time out of your schedule to get them redone.  So glad I don't have dogs that require professional grooming.

Karen, I'm glad you got some sleep despite the stupid smoke alarm.

Really cool this morning and only supposed to reach the high 80s today but then we start inching up and will be at 100 by the weekend. It's still not as bad as those dealing with the heat and the humidity. I was sweating just watching the news coverage - blech!!

I slept really well last night too. I went to bed feeling a little discomfort from the crown I had done yesterday. I worried it was going to get worse during the night but it didn't and it feels fine today. This appt went absolutely perfect too, so that was a huge relief. I'm done with everything but cleanings for another year.

My MIL had a Gold's Gym weight bench and weights she'd never used and didn't want, so she brought it over yesterday. She's in her mid-70s but you'd never guess it and she was blowing me away with how she was moving super heavy stuff around. She kept saying "don't try to lift that or you'll hurt yourself. I'll get it" LOL!!! It's a really nice bench with all the attachments, so I'm anxious to get it set up.

Went to the public library at lunch yesterday. Walking by a van, I heard barking. I stop, look around to see a Pomeranian inside, windows rolled completely up, vehicle not running. Granted, the van was parked in a shady spot, but it was still 92 degrees outside at noon. I was taking down vehicle info when the owner came out of the library. Ugh. Angry

Geez, why does the dog need to go along when someone's going to the library?  I know some people think they have super smart dogs and in this case the dog was probably the smarter of the two.

They have at least now taken my car in. We drove by earlier and hadn't done it yet, so we talked to the guy. We went over to a dealership that had something in that I am considering and looked at some stuff over there. I looked at  PT Cruiser and a Ford Escape. I think I like the Escape better, but that's as-is and definitely needs a few things. Nothing major from what I could tell by looking at it, just a few  cheap things. I'd also have to take that to my mechanic to look at it. I'm trying to figure the feasibility of doing that by Friday if mine isn't getting fixed. I think it's doable, I get done work tomorrow at 3:00 or 3:30 I think.

Stupid owners. Shade or not, it is too hot! Shoot I was stressing about the dogs being in my car yesterday and I had all the windows open, the back hatch and the sunroof. I was hoping nobody would steal my dogs while I paid the groomer but I wasn't about to leave them in the car with just the windows cracked.

Cathy that is awesome. I hope I am in that good of shape when I am that age.

I'm on hold to speak to the IRS.  Wait time was estimated to be 15 minutes but it's been 22 minutes, so far.  I'll probably forget why I'm calling by the time they get on the line.  Then I'll have another long wait while they try and figure out why they think we've got an overpayment for the first quarter.

Cathy, your MIL needs to come to my house and inspire me to work out with weights. lol

Jackie I believe I told you about this story

Well I took B to the lake - he amazes me. I mean all dogs do but I get to witness him. He is officially a water dog now. I have to track our outing but he swam about a mile, played in the low water like a nut, did retrieves, determined that osprey are birds Confused and was just overall nuts. I was watching him swim and he doesn't even get winded Surprise Its crazy. So its official he's no longer a land animal - he's a water dog Big Smile

OK need to settle into some proper work now

    It's still sunny Cool

Cathy, your MIL sounds like a hoot!  Good for her!  It sounds like there's a genetic factor in your husband's preference to do lots of hard tasks by himself, huh?  :-)

Tina, I'm glad that van owner came out . . . I honestly don't know what is wrong with people who think even a few minutes in a sealed car on a very hot day is safe for a dog.  But, since there are idiots who do that with kids who end up dying in cars, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people do the same with pets.

Jen, I hope you get the auto situation worked out before the weekend without having to buy a new one!  I can't imagine getting a new car on such short notice, but I'm one of those who has to analyze everything to bits, research, test drive, etc.  As for rentals, the Enterprise place here went out of business.  I assumed the whole company did, but maybe they just closed some locations.

Yay for sun and sleep, boo for fire alarms, Karen!  Boy, when you hear about things like your brother and his neighbors still not getting the funds from FEMA, that's when you understand why many people say that government is so inefficient and wasteful.  That is just maddening, and absolutely unacceptable after 9 months!

Callie, does David have a super long commute to the office?  That would stink if he was keeping those insane hours and had a long drive on top of it.  He'd almost have to consider putting a cot in his office for the worst of it!

Clouds today -- they're predicting possible thunderstorms.  We've not had a drop of moisture in a few weeks, so we'll take some rain without complaining!

I know for one thing the dog owners rationalize about the shade and cracked windows making it okay. Years ago when I lived in Virginia Beach, I'd dropped my son off at preschool and went to the nearby mall. I walked by a car with a GSD in it at approximately 9:30a. When I left the mall at 11:30a the car with the dog was still there. It was mid-April, temps in the 90s. I approached mall security who said they could do nothing. By the time I got to the preschool 10 minutes away I was so upset I couldn't stop crying. I called the police from the school, gave a full description of the car, where it was parked, plate number, how long I'd seen it there. I don't know what happened to that dog, but I am not one to pretend I don't see dogs left in cars and ignore them.

What gets me is that you don't have to take your dog with you, unless it's going to the vet. You do, however, have to take kids with you. Shouldn't a responsible parent remember the kid is in the car? I've seen so many stories this year about people forgetting babies in the car it's unreal. Are people that distracted and careless?
