    Derby Day Chat

Good golly we. are. still. cold. damp. gray. windy. Bah humbug.

I am getting a bit concerned for my seedling tomato and pepper plants. They need to dry out some and get some warmth

I had a firm word with Bugsy last night to not wake me up at 6. Admittedly I was stirring, but as predicted he stuck his nose in my face at 5:59 and proceeded to go straight into this morning rolling and stretching. DH sensing my irritation last night volunteered to get up. I didn't fall back to sleep but it was nice to stay in bed for a half hour and just relax.

No great plans for the day. I do need to look over the Derby lineup and make some choices. I don't bet but I always make picks.

    No work thoughts Jackie

Sorry about your drab weather Karen. I hope it gets better soon.

I bit the bullet and put in an order to get a trailer hitch installed on my truck today. I should have done this when I first bought the darn thing but oh well. Next on the list is to get a bike rack that swings away so I can still open the hatch. I have a bike rack that goes on top of my truck but it's a serious pita putting bikes up there. Plus I want to buy my little camper trailer thingy eventually.

I had a bunch of plans for the weekend - camping, bike ride, etc. but I think I'm going to do yard work instead. It really needs done.

The handyman I emailed last week never contacted me back. bah.

Karen, sorry your weather is still yucky.  I'll keep quiet about our weather. Cool  It was very cool for us this morning at 43.  The winds the past few days really did a number on our tomato plants and the peppers.  They'll be ok though.

I'm dreading my lunch date today.

We slept until 7 this morning and it was wonderful.  Rex finally couldn't stand it any longer and poked his cold nose in my face. lol

I'm not going to think about work today.  I did dream about it all night.

Gabby has completely exhausted herself and the other two.  They've been zooming in the back yard chasing each other for thirty minutes non stop. :)

I hope I get to watch some of the Derby but must admit I don't enjoy it as much as I did before Barbaro.  Crying  I know injuries are part of any sport but I never want to see something like that again.

My friend is getting married today and I'm so happy the weather is going to be perfect - low to mid sixties and sunny skies.  I was rudely awakened by Ari ripping the pillow out from beneath my head.  She can be such a jerk lol.

Glorious weather here today so I'll probably torment the old body in the garden again.  The muscles are finally almost fully recovered from last weekend, so what the heck.  I seriously need to get back in shape!

DS mowed and cleaned up the back yard yesterday.  Surprised the heck out of me since I hadn't asked, just mentioned we were going to have to mow soon.  Hopefully he'll do the front today.  We had an unbelievable amount of tree branches down in the yard so the fire pit is overflowing.  If it doesn't get too breezy, I'll probably do some burning while I work in the garden.  I know this sounds like torment to some, but I truly enjoy the yardwork and gardening.  Heck, maybe I'll even do some of the mowing.  The problem with that is when I ask DS to start the mower for me, he gets all manly and does it himself.  My should won't let me pull the start cord hard enough and I truly LIKE to cut the grass sometimes.

Ah well, such a problem, right?  I can always play in the dirt and with fire!

    Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

I think Mother Nature has it in for us.  This is like the third Saturday in a row that we've had really high winds blowing. I had planned to be out in the yard today, but not with dirt and twigs blowing everywhere. If it weren't for the wind, it would be an absolutely gorgeous day. I guess I shouldn't complain, given that some people are still having snow. Smile

The girls and I had another fun morning. They slept in until 7. We relaxed a bit for a while, had breakfast, and they didn't fight (too much) while I showered. Then we ran to Walgreens, Kohl's (I had a 30% off coupon - I got a $38 tankini top for $16 - $38 on sale for $22), then the local sporting good store for soccer socks for Willa, then to Burger King (going out to eat is rare for us), then to the library. Whew!

AAAAAAND, this was all done in undies for Sonja. We ran out of diapers yesterday, so hopefully she's officially cut off. Smile She's actually been potty trained for #1 for almost a month now I think. The trouble has been with #2.

Now to catch up on work around the house. Party!!! <--sarcasm

How cool!  Oddly, I was feeling a bit blue today, and DS was helping me put groceries away and mentioned finding a video from 1994 of Mike's first public appearance with a band!  Don't EVEN try to tell me that God doesn't move in mysterious ways....or Mike, whoever!  For some reason, that video got posted and seen by me, just at the right time!

For those of you who would like to see it.  Lousy quality, but for those of you who went to the One Nightstand site and saw some of the boys antics on stage, you'll see a really major progresssion

Like any of us needed to be told that you were being sarcastic. lol  Who wants to do housework on the weekend but most of us have no choice. Glad you had a fun outing with the girls. :)

Lunch was good.  The food, anyway. lol  I didn't manage to say exactly what I wanted to say to my friend but I said enough to make myself feel better about our relationship.  My friend was dressed to the nines.  Where did that expression come from?  I was dressed like I always am in a tee shirt, jeans and tennies.  I think she was expecting to go to some fancy place but I chose Ruby Tuesdays which was pretty pricey for lunch.  She gave me a very sweet card thanking me for the things I've done for her.  Told me not to open it until I got home.  I started to feel guilty when I read what she wrote and then realized that manipulative people know how to push those guilt buttons.  I shook off any guilt and I'm heading outside to enjoy the nice weather.

No kidding!! I left at 7:30 to go help with weeding foxtails at Homeward Bound. I couldn't believe how nasty the wind was but it did help keep me cool. I filled up 3 large garbage bags but there's still much that needs to be done. I asked to work in the fenced, pavillion area and to bring Shane. He had a good time running around while I worked and even met a black lab puppy that showed up for training. So adorable!!!

I came home and cleaned bathrooms and vacuumed and now I'm going to go lay down with a magazine and take a nap.

Jackie - good thoughts for you lunch today. I know you will handle it in the best way possible.

I am recording the Derby. I could stare at horses all day long, so this is such a treat for me. I don't have a favorite but I do hope they all finish safely.

My friend was dressed to the nines.

LOL when my grandmother got older and moved into assisted living, she would always 'dress to the nines' to come over for dinner. Drove my mother batty as the four of us were running, playing, filthy kids, dad was usually at work and my mother was trying to clean, cook etc. Anyway every time I hear that expression it reminds me of those days

Glad your lunch went OK, good for you for recognizing the attempted manipulation

I just made a recipe for fish tacos I saw in the paper the other day. Unfortunately I didn't realize they want the fish to marinate over night - oh well a couple of hours will have to do :)

I always watch the derby but I understand its been heavily raining so the track is very sloppy. I don't know if that correlates with more injuries but I would think so

DH scrubbed the whole porch with bleach and it looks great. Now if the weather to enjoy it would arrive

Some sun did shine on and off today so that was nice.

Tacran, I'm here! It has been super-busy at work. I, too, think Deb's posting about me when she talks about Kate :-) I have the  Derby on. It's a sloppy track today!

Glad your lunch went okay Jackie but your mention of the card she gave you reminded me of my sister and she was the queen of manipulation. I'm glad it didn't affect your day negatively.

I'm reading a book!! That probably sounds crazy to some but I haven't really gotten into a book for pleasure in a long time. I am loving this Kindle!! I'm also loving the new contact lense trials they gave me. They feel super comfortable, even with the wind today, and I can see great - yay!!

Awesome about the Kindle Cathy! Jackie, I am glad your lunch went ok too. I am dying to be nosey and ask what the issue was but I won't ;)
