    TGIF!

Good morning and it is a lovely day here (soon to be followed by 5 days of rain)

Golf turned out nice yesterday except the old guy on our team that was in need of trying to tell me how to play - nothing quite gets to me like a condescending moron. I eventually let him know that I had played the game before, and at a much higher level than he has ever achieved. Humph!

I drugged DH last night and sent him to the guest bed to sleep. Somehow he still was able to wake me up at 3 and I wound up being awake until 4:30. Then Bugsy came to tell me the paper had arrived at 5:15 and I never fell back to sleep.

Jackie I hope things are going well

Julie I hope you were not met with any messes when you came home.

Which reminds me, sometimes I don't know how some of you do it with your active dogs. After leaving B from 1:30- 7:30pm we came home to a lunatic. Even in recovery he needed an hour and a half to settle to some sort of normalcy. And yesterday morning we did our longest walk yet, so I thought he'd be OK.

I can't recall much else from yesterday's thread

OK better get my big old butt in gear.

    Happy retirement to Mr. W!

No messes were waiting for me at home yesterday. Whew!

I took today off and am still getting phone calls about emergency type stuff that I now have to follow up on as s Today goes on. Hopefully the people I asked take action will follow through with no issues and it won't be a hassle.

The weather is looking beautiful for the weekend and I am planning to take full advantage. Tomorrow is recylerama at Msu and I am borrowing a friends truck to get rid of furniture, tvs, old computers, etc. spring cleaning Rawr!

Congrats to Mr. W.  Deb, you have my deepest sympathy.  lol

Karen, I was so happy to hear that Bugsy has been off the Rimadyl for a few days.  Forgot to congratulate you on your big pay raise the other day. lol  It is nice to get the recognition for a job well done though.

Enjoy your day off, Julie but if you're still getting calls about work, ugh.  Enjoy your nice weather.

We've got drizzly yuck this morning but I think it's supposed to clear up later.  The city is closed and all schools too.  Viva Fiesta, unless you have to work and then it's sour grape moaning like me. lol  I may leave early if I can get what I need to get done finished.

    Happy retirement Mr. W. TGIF!!!!!

    Congrats to Mr. W!!

Karen - I don't know how people do it either. If we leave Shane for just a few hours, he's crazed when we get home. Having to crate him probably makes it worse but I still don't trust him to be a good boy if left out.

I signed us up for a canine cancer walk for next Sunday for the Morris Foundation. I was hesitating and wishing someone would want to do it with me but decided to go for it and even if I bail out, the money goes to a good cause. I think it would be fun for Shane though. The longest walk is 1.7 mi and he'd do fine for that if it's cool but if it's hot, they have a .5 walk.

I have sooooo much cleaning to get done today and hope to have enough energy when I'm done to also wash my filthy car.

Still no Glenda? I hope everything is okay.

I think I told you that someone gave me a plaque that says "A retired husband is a full-time job" Big Smile

Congrats to Mr. W and wishes for a smooth transition for all!

DH is sick and watching movies with Bugsy.

That walk sounds fun Cathy I hope the weather is cool enough for Shane

    Deb.  Some words of advice.

Be nice and let him know how glad you are that he has retired.  I retired six months ago.  Don't ask what time he got up, what he did minute by minute, or what he had to eat - you'll turn him into someone he doesn't want to be!  For example, the mornings I go to the local breakfast place, I put a clean cereal bowl in the dishwasher and make the cereal box crooked.  I don't want my wife to feel badly that she hasn't retired yet.  Notice the freshly vacuumed floor and dusted furniture Big Smile

      Sounds like decent advice.

Good luck to Mr. W on his retirement!  Every retired person I know claims to be SOOOO busy and I just can't fathom how that happens.  Aside from too many doctor's appointments and all those mid-day naps... HOW can they be tooooo busy.

I have a cold still.  I will blame that for leaving my cell phone at home.  I will also blame that for my desire not to work.  Sigh.  Back to work.  COFFEE TIME!

Yanke - too funny!  You're a very considerate guy, trying to prevent your wife from feeling bad she's still working.  And you're doing some vacuuming and dusting?  Wow!

When our friend retired, his wife was going bonkers because she was used to being home alone all day, and he started following her around the house asking, "What are you doing now?"  She's a great housekeeper, gardener, and cook, so it's not like she was sitting all day eating bon-bons.  After a few weeks of his pestering, she decided to put him to work.  She told him all the things she did each day and made him pick something that would be his job.  He chose to do all the cooking.  It kept him busier, but the drawback was he wasn't interested in healthy recipes, so their new menu led to some serious weight gain for both of them!  Tongue Tied

Deb -- after you enjoy the initial celebrations, I hope it's not too frustrating for you.  At least Jamison will be happy to have someone home all day with him, right?

We've had 5 straight days of FANTASTIC weather -- unusual here this time of year.  In the 70's, not a cloud in the sky, a light breeze.  Today it may reach 80.  I know the rains will return, but for now everyone around here is remarking how much happier we all feel!

I'm going to see David Sedaris tonight -- he'll read from his latest book.  Just the title is funny, so I know he'll be hilarious as usual.  It's called Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.

    Cute warning:

    You were warned.

Beautiful day. Makes my thoughts turn to mowing grass, so I decided to spiff up the mower. It's an old MTD from Wallyworld. Supposed to be a 10 year item, but I have used and abused this poor thing for about 16 years now. So I started a list of parts to replace , some broken, some just missing. The deck is torn up from making big rocks into pebbles, and apparently if you take parts off to fix something, you're supposed to put them back, preferably before you lose them. The battery, about 4 years old, won't take a charge, and wife refuses to push me around the yard while making motor sounds. So, thats first on the list. Replaced one blade from my stockpile of old beat up parts. Wife is raking the yard now, trying to guilt me. Won't work.

Piper had a compliment today-on her behavior. I've always used hand signals along with voice, and as she seems to be losing her hearing, it's a good thing. We were at a garage sale, and I had her sit, stay by hand. She stayed right there, just like the book describes, until I was ready to leave. She is more than just a pretty face.

That's my parents, especially my dad. He transitioned VERY WELL. He went from working 70 hours a week for 45 years to retirement without blinking an eye. It helps that all their friends retired at the same time. They are now like a bunch of college kids, hanging out on the weekends, going to Vegas, heck on Tuesday I called them and they were all at the casino "gambling away my inheritance". More power to them I say!! My mom says she doesn't know how they used to find time to work LOL

Yanke, that is so nice of you to make it look as if you are stuck at home having to do your dirty dishes after having to fix your own cereal.Big Smile Vacuuming and dusting besides wow!

Hey has anyone mentioned if they heard from Glenda? I know someone else had mentioned about her and I don't see any recent posts from her.

    • Gold Top Dog

My Dad has always had a *lot* of hobbies, and his goal when he retired was to ENJOY his woodcarving.  he absolutely has.  My mother, on the other hand, got grouchy because she is still keeping the house (my dad is enough of a dinosaur to not have a clue to offer to help with laundry, etc.)  But Dad has totally enjoyed his retirement and has kept totally busy creating something most all the time.  Deb does Mr. W. have busy/productive plans?

My Mom is still having a tough time -- today the doctor told her to stop trying to eat and just drink either Gatorade or Pedialyte.  But at least the doctors office called Mom today.  I got that to happen anyway.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
