    Saturday Chat

     Happy weekend!

I've actually got more work this weekend than usual, so no happy weekend to me.

My mom later filled me in the rest of the info on my dad. Apparently he can live like 17 years on dialysis, and they give you a home unit. That's certainly better than when she told me initially without all the details.

Still hacking up crap over here.

better news about your dad, Jen. Feel better soon.

We had heavy rain through yesterday afternoon which washed some pollen away but woke up this morning and everything is back to yellow/green.

DH has stated that he'll clean the downstairs while I do the upstairs - this is huge as he hasn't helped out with serious cleaning in ages but I have been ridiculously busy with very long days so its a huge relief to think the house can get cleaned today. It is in real need. I also need to get to the food store. Two loads of laundry are done already.

Its my mom's birthday Big Smile

Bugsy looks sore today and he did less yesterday. I hate this post op stuff

GORGEOUS day here so hopefully I can get the chores done early enough to do something fun

    Feel better Jen and Bugsy!

Happy birthday to your mom Karen!

I'm going to go buy some plants early and work outside. DH needs to change a motor on the pool equipment. Hopefully that will go smoothly for the equipment and DH.

There's also an adoption event my friend is hosting and I might go to that. I also need to get a bunch of cleaning done - blech! It's supposed to be 80 though, so I'm happy about that. I hope everyone has a great day.

    Have fun gardening, Cathy.  :)

Karen, yay for your DH stepping up and helping get the house cleaned.  Yuck to the pollen return.  I know this recovery is tough on you and Bugsy.  I hope it's not too long before he's doing better every day with no relapses.

I should be cleaning the house but have felt so sluggish this morning.  I'm not even dressed yet and slept until almost 7 which is very late for me.

Yesterday DH and I were almost falling over with laughter watching Belle.  We were throwing the tennis ball for the dogs and Belle started doing something she's never done.  If her ball didn't bounce so she could do a flying leap to catch it she would let it roll ahead of her and when it stopped she'd pounce on it.  I know it probably doesn't sound all that funny but to see her slowly follow it and then pounce with both front feet like a fox going after an underground mouse was just hilarious to us.  Of course we'd had a drink so that may have added to our sense of hilarity. :)

I'm having lunch with a friend today.  Not sure about the restaraunt that's been picked by her daughter (now coming along) but I'll go with the flow.

Ahhhhh!  The weekend!  Invented to let us all catch up on the stuff we had no time for during the week and just maybe get a little time to relax!

Feel better Jen.  Better news at least about your Dad.  Bugsy....I know post op is a miserable, hateful time.  Been there myself, but just one day at a time, and pretty soon it'll be all better!  Give your mom a break!

Happy birthday to Karen's mom.  What else?  Know I'm missing something!

I admire those of you who get up and going so early on the weekend.  I'm being a slug today.  I've done some work stuff, done some emails and just in general, given myself a break.  If it warms up a bit, I might do some work in the veggie garden, mostly just prep it for planting.  Probably way too soon to put anything in other than garlic and onions.  Most of the garlic went in the the fall, but a friend sent me some that I need to get in as well.

Gosh it feels sooooo good to just take the day as it comes and not have to hurry.

     Silly Belle!

Well DH did a very good job - even if he missed some of the normal stuff he did other stuff that I don't do often so all is good. I have only our bathroom left to do but between the pollen and the overload of cleaner (DH has a theory that more cleaner is directly correlated to how clean something gets - the concept of more elbow grease seems to escape him BUT no complaints today), my asthma has put an end to my cleaning for today!

Lunch followed by food shopping followed by watching the Masters :)

Thanks re Bugsy - I just can't understand why he's had a setback today. It is what it is but I hate it

Just waving hi! The weather here sucks. Nothing new there. I got most of my errands done yesterday so I could spend today puttering around the house. I hope you all get out to enjoy our nice weather!

We need a new weather person. The climate has become unpleasant. Current forecast is -rain, turning to sleet and ice. It's April. Only about 7 weeks left in the possible snow season. Aug 31 to June 4. April 2 is the average latest snow fall, but average doesn't mean range. You may wonder, why do we live in MN, and why do we have so many Norske types:

We celebrate March 17th in commemoration of St. Patrick's great and noble deed in driving the Norwegians out of Ireland.

It seems that centuries ago many Norwegians came to Ireland to escape the bitterness of the Norwegian winter. Ireland was having a famine at the time and food was scarce.

The Norwegians were eating almost all of the fish caught in the ocean, leaving the Irish with nothing but potatoes.

St. Patrick, taking matters into onto his own hands, like most Irishman, decided all the Norwegians had to go. Secretly he organized the IRATION (Irish Republican Army to Rid Ireland of Norwegians). Irish members of the IRATION sabotaged all the power plants in hopes the fish in Norwegian refrigerators would spoil, forcing the Norwegians to a cooler climate where their fish would keep. The fish spoiled all right, but the Norwegians, as everyone knows to this day, thrive on spoiled fish. Faced with failure, the Irishmen sneaked into the Norwegian fish storage caves in the dead of the night and sprinkled the rotten fish with lye, hoping to poison the Norwegian intruders, but as everybody knows, this is how lutefisk was introduced to the Norwegians, and how they thrived on the lye soaked smelly fish.

Matters became even worse for the Irish when the Norwegians started taking over the Irish potato crop to make lefse. Poor St. Patrick was at his wits end. Finally, on March 17, he blew his top and told the Norwegians to "go to hell" -- and it worked, because all the Norwegians left Ireland and went to Minnesota.

Those of us with German or Swedish ancestors know that this is a true version of history. My wife is Irish.

You know what feels weird?  Reading all the posts from start to finish, and reading that you're going to clean an entire floor of your house, Karen, then seconds later reading that you're all finished . . . all while I'm still sitting here in my sweatpants, not even close to starting anything productive yet today.  It's more than just the 3 hour time difference -- my laziness is a factor, too!

Jen, hope your cough improves, and glad to hear your Dad's prognosis is better than it initially sounded.

Jackie, I could picture what Belle was doing exactly -- Ruby does the same thing sometimes when we toss things in the yard for her.  And we described the pounce as "fox like," too.  It's very funny to see!

We're heading over to check on our friends' dog in a few minutes.  They're out of town all day, so he'll need a couple potty breaks.  He knows us, but we don't see him often, and he's got some issues with strangers, so I'm hoping he lets us in the house without incident!

Got about a 1/3 of my To Do List crossed off last night.  I'll make another big dent in it today -- anything left I'll tackle tomorrow.  It'll feel so good to get this stuff done!

Edited to add:  Doug -- if you were my history professor in school, I would've enjoyed those classes so much more than I did back then!  You're a natural story teller -- such vivid imagery!

As with most DIY projects, the pool motor replacement hasn't gone smoothly. DH realized after he took it apart and was about to install the new one that he needed another part. None of the pool supply stores here have one in stock, so one ordered it and it'll be here Mon. DH had to clean up the old motor and put it all back together. I feel horrible for him. Nothing like spending 3 hrs on something and knowing you'll have to do it again in a few days :(. He didn't want to have to worry about keeping an eye on Shane while working on this, so I didn't make it to my flower shopping but I did get the house clean and took Shane for a nice walk. It's a good thing most people love to greet and pet him cause he'll stand there and stare for the longest time when they don't.

We celebrate March 17th in commemoration of St. Patrick's great and noble deed in driving the Norwegians out of Ireland.

I thought he just drove the snakes out of Ireland.  I had no idea he had it in for the Norwegians too. Big Smile

The big halogen light bulb mounted up near the roofline in the back yard finally burned out after 20+ years.  A few years ago a city inspector told me those were no longer permitted by the state and I'd have to replace it with some new, fancy, super efficient, super expensive bulb.  I took the bulb to Ace Hardware just to see if someone could point me in the right direction to buy an obsolete, no longer permitted bulb and wonder of wonders, they had them there.  I don't know where Mr. City Inspector got his info, but he was sure wrong on that one.  And why would the state or city be concerned about the enery output of a bulb that's turned on so seldom that it lasts that long?

I was out in front last evening repotting a few plants and I left the front door open so Max could sit there and watch the world go by.  Someone walked by with a dog and I half expected him to come flying out the door, but he just sat there and watched. I didn't even have to remind him to stay.

Hehe our neighbor's golden used to look so insulted when people didn't pet hm  - because our neighborhood streets are so narrow most people slow down as they go by, loads of people stop and chat with us so Bugsy's thing is when he hears a slow moving vehicle he stops and his tail is wagging like Oh who is this? Major disappointment when they keep going

Well today turned into a super productive day- I have no idea what spurred DH into cleaning mode but it was much appreciated. I only have a few things left to do tomorrow :)

7:34 and its still pretty bright!!

Spring has truly arrived here - especially after the heavy rains Thurs-Fri and the warmth loads of things are sprouting

Yay - I made it to the store to buy plants had a wonderful few hours outside making things pretty. I ran out of pots that I wanted to use, so that gives me something to look for. What a wonderful, satisfying feeling to play in the dirt and stand back and see a beautiful pot of flowers.

We had a pretty good day today! It started out rough - Willa woke up crying at 4:45 because her belly hurt. I thought maybe she had a cramp from needing to go potty (do you ever wake up like that? Like, jeez bladder, why didn't you wake me up before you're seconds from exploding?) so we went to the bathroom. She peed, then went back to bed. She woke up about 15 minutes later, again crying. I gave her some gas drops and had her come to bed with me. Rupert snuggled right up to her side and rested his head in her armpit/shoulder. He's the bestest furry big brother ever.

She fell back asleep for a while. When she got up she was still whiny. Sonja, luckily, and for ONCE, woke up happy and not crabby. Poor Willa ended up throwing up just a bit. She really had nothing in her stomach. I had her drink a tiny bit of water every 10 minutes or so. After a while she ate a banana and chilled out on the couch.

She felt better so at 11 we left to go to a home & garden show at a high school in a town about a half hour away. The kids behaved great! They jumped in a big bounce house with a slide, walked around nicely, and each got a balloon with a sucker tied to the end. The local dance studio had a show in the auditorium. Both kids sat great through the 45 minute show. We got a bag of popcorn on our way out for the drive home. They both ate some then zonked out. They were still sleeping when I pulled in the driveway. Sonja gets super crabby if she gets woken up from a nap, so I just took a nap along with them! lol. It wasn't that comfortable - I couldn't lean my seat back because Willa is right behind me. I should have crawled back into the rear row of the van, but I was afraid I'd wake them up. We ended up sleeping for about 45 minutes. Smile
