    Sleepy Sunday chat

Guess everyone is sleeping late today.  Unfortunately, I've been up since before 6.  Hate when that happens on the weekend!

Down right chilly here, a whooping 35 degrees, but, the sun is shining, so I'll take it!

My oldest "spare" son posted a Dominos phone number on his facebook yesterday asking people to send pizza to those afflicted and those helping, so we called in a few pizzas to be delivered to the Armory.  I so wish we could do more to help.  One of the guys at the radio station is going to take his weeks vacation and go to NJ to help rebuild.  I figured the least we could do is send a few pizzas.  And lots of prayers and good thots.

Here's hoping those of us still online are having a nice weekend and that its getting less horrible for those who aren't.

Sleepy is right. I slept in and am still tired.

I almost made it to a money spot in the poker tourney last night. The top 3 spots had cash prizes ($200 for first!). I got knocked out at number 5 booo! It was exhausting.

I was up at 4:30, courtesy of a certain dog. I believe what happened is that Luke got up so that he could try to get Callie to move off the bed. He snagged the spot on the bed, then she was up, driving me nuts. I stalled her for an hour.

Luke's flea saga continues. I saw one on him the other day, so I washed him again with flea shampoo. I saw one on him again today though. I just put advantix on him now, and I ordered capstar from the vet. The other dogs continue to have no issues.

The other dog I am running in the flyball tournament is so much faster than Luke. The first two times I practiced with him, I missed catching him. The next two times I kind of jumped on him, and I got him. He's faster than me. That's not a problem with Luke. Luke is, from the records I can find, the fastest cavalier in flyball. That's nothing compared to whatever kind of mix this dog is (maybe some border collie, some pit, some other terrier). He's also deaf. If you miss the catch, it's not like you can just call him back. You have to get his attention somehow, and try again. And I can't let him get too close to one of the other dogs.

I hope everyone on Luke's team for the tournament is okay. One is from Staten Island, and another lives in Jersey City. I think the other two are in places that should be okay.

We've been up since 6 this morning. However, I did get all of the laundry done, went grocery shopping, and made pancakes and bacon for breakfast. I am exhausted. Heading off in a little bit for Riley's riding lesson. I promised her that Dolly would only go slow - not fast.

I hope Riley has fun today, Lisa.

Karen, your family remains in my thoughts and prayers along with everyone trying to get through to better days.

I'm off to the nursing home in a little while.  I'm putting a roast in the oven before I leave.

We're going to see the Air Force band Tops in Blue this afternoon.  It's such a gorgeous day I kind of hate to be stuck inside.

On my way back from the grocery store a hawk flew over the hood of my car and caught a rodent of some sort on the highway median.  Pretty cool.

I hope riding lessons go well today for Riley.

Karen - I can't imagine how helpless and worried you're feeling. I don't even personally know anyone in the affected areas and I feel completely helpless and sad. I go to sleep at night wondering what some of those people's situation must be like right now and it's mind boggling.

I baked a meatloaf and potatoes yesterday and just baked a breakfast casserole. I'm sure DH will be happy to have plenty of food when he gets home and I shouldn't have to cook again for a couple days.

It's a gorgeous day here and I'm going to go help out at HB for a bit. I bought a few Pampered Chefs items from one of the volunteers and I need to pick them up. Maybe I'll help with the reactive dogs class....maybe.

One of the super active voluneers out there has really been through a rough time. One of her dogs was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma a little over a week ago. Then this week, one of her dogs developed a staph infection on her tumme and her new foster dog had to be rushed to the vet for pancreatitis. I can only imagine how costly this has been :(.

    Me too!

I hope others enjoy their day too!

Just spoke to mom - she's hanging on - first time I heard her say she's cold - wearing her winter coat in the house Sad But her spirits are good and they see progress. Rumor has it they will have power on Wednesday, hoping so! She did make me laugh when she said she worries for the elderly - when I told her at 72 she qualified as elderly she said, "c,mon I mean the REAL elderly" That's my mom! Wink

I went to the local park with the mill for a walk and as I was leaving I saw some people unloading their car and out jumps their dog. The park had posted last week that they are having increasing problems with people bring their dogs (its a wildlife refuge so no pets allowed) and also people accessing the "no access' areas. So I stood there for a moment and thought - people are idiots - and then decided to open my mouth. I politely said "excuse me not sure if you saw the signs but no pets are allowed here"

    "we're just taking pictures"

    "um well pets aren't allowed"

"We're going to take our pictures and then leave"

Hmm so its OK to break the rules for your picture?

"Its not your park lady and its no big deal, we are going to take our pictures with the dog"

I do not own the park but I pay taxes to support it, volunteer here, and visit here regularly - they have asked citizens to remind visitors of the rules because too many people like yourselves see themselves as above the rules"

He said something else but I decided to just go report them to the park center - I hope they prevented them from taking their pictures. I was really peeved - my fuse is pretty short these days

What a bunch of jerks, Karen. Sad People like that are why dogs aren't allowed in many places.  I hope the park employees took action.

Glad your mom is ok and hanging in there.  I agree with her as far as what constitutes elderly these days. :)  I really hope they get their electricity restored soon.  I can't imagine how miserable life is for them and for you.  The helpless feeling must be overwhelming at times.  (((hugs)))

We decided not to go to the concert this afternoon.  It's been a busy and somewhat stressful week and we both want to relax at home.

I made some raisin buttermilk scones.  Yum.

karen, I'm glad your mom is OK and I think she's right ... by today's standards, 72 really isn't considered all that old.  Isn't 70 the new 50 or something like that? Big Smile

Jackie, your new Trader Joe's should settle down in a few days.  Try going right around dinner time or about 1/2 hr. before closing. There should be times during the day when things are slower.

Slap forehead....I thought we had a storm coming because it was getting so dark...duh, time change...slap!!!!

Karen, I have your Mom in my prayers....   No, 72 isn't that old, unless you are driving, and then nobody wants you on the roads!  BUT, they do want you to keep working...  I will never understand that one!

Thanks everyone! The prayers worked - just got a text that her power is on, fingers crossed its on for good!
    • Gold Top Dog
Yay for power. That really would have sucked
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh man, I'm so happy that she has power Karen. That must've made your day and almost made up for the jerks you ran in to.

The time change has me messed up today. I know Shane is going to be wanting dinner about an hour early too. We'll all probably be in bed by 8.

I picked up my Pampered Chef stuff and felt like it was early Christmas. I bought the pizza stone (have always wanted one) and a rectangular stone baker for lasagna and stuff. I really want to start making some pizzas from scratch, so if anyone has any good recipes, pass them on.

On my way home from work, my exit was backed up. It gets backed up sometimes on weekdays, but I couldn't figure out why it would be backed up on a Sunday, and worse than on the weekends. It never backs up coming North, and today it was backed up for miles in that direction. I had to go down to the next exit and come through another town to get home. There was a Romney event at the farm there. I think he was there, but I have no clue. I think there were also a few people in the line from NJ coming in to get gas, because I saw quite a few odd numbered plates in the line. It's an even numbered day for the gas rationing, and my exit is the second one in PA, but I think you'd have to go further for gas off of the first exit. I hope if they were in line to get gas, they did get out of the line and go down to the next exit. If they came to PA to get away from the lines, this was the last thing those poor people needed.

Around here, most kids went back to school on Friday. Most of the kids I work with are going back to school tomorrow. They don't live in counties with gas rations, and weren't quite as hard hit. One of the the kids though, they have gas rationing in that county, and it looks like much of the town is still without power. They're not going back to school until Wednesday. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow, see how they're doing, and if I should go over there. I hope they're okay. Actually, hopefully if their power is still out, they've gone somewhere other than home. If I go over there tomorrow, I'll have to see if there is something around where I can donate an old coat or two that doesn't fit anyone here anymore.
