We made it to Saturday chat

Thots and prayers still going out to those so severely impacted by Sandy.

I did my normal 5AM wakeup thinking it was Tuesday.  My poor brain has been overloaded this week.

I have to say that I'm annoyed about the NY Marathon.  Seriously?  Those generators couldn't be put to better use?  The food?  Because I'm sure that they have restored power to everyone in the entire area, repaired all the damage and it's time for the city to get back to normal.  Especially with a Noreaster heading in Wednesday that looks like it's going to slam into the most badly damaged areas.  But, in his infinate wisdom, the mayor thinks the city needs to be invaded by thousands of runners and the tragedies, what?  Put aside and forgotten for the day?  I'm sure that a lot of revenue will come into the city because of this, BUT, the effort that is being put into housing and feeding the runners couldn't be better put into helping the homeless, the displaced, those hanging on by their fingernails?

OK, stepping down off the soapbox.......

The marathon was cancelled yesterday, Glenda.

I've got a lunch date with a friend and then going to see her new Cairn mix.  She took this dog in as her elderly neighbor could no longer keep the dog.  I can't wait to meet Perry Como. lol  Yep, that's the little guy's name.  We're having lunch at a new restaraunt owned by one of our city's top chefs.  We've never been and I'm looking forward to it.  DH and I had a nice date night yesterday.

Continued good vibes to all affected by Sandy.

You know they did finally, under public pressure, decide to cancel it. Jimmy Kimmel summed it up well last night when he said just give the prize to some Kenyan, because that's who will win it anyway. Kudos to the owner of the hotel who refused to kick out the now homeless people, and the Red Cross workers in order to house the runners. I believe it was a Hilton, and the head of the chain called him personally and said they supported his decision, and would send him what he needed.

They're now gas rationing in some NJ counties. I suppose I better make sure to go over there with a full tank, because I'm sure even when I am not going to one of those counties, people will be coming over to the others to get gas.

Thanks Jackie.  Have been just a wee bit out of touch with the world the past couple days.

I have no idea how I am going to make today work. I have something going on for work, a baby shower I haven't bought a present for yet and a poker party.

LOL Glenda. I was thinking "wth?"

I keep seeing the long gas lines and wondering how people are managing to sit there for hours and not run out of gas while they wait. You could easily burn through a few gallons while waiting and you could turn your car off but if you're moving every few min's, I'm not sure that would help. What a mess Sad

Have fun with your friend and Perry Como today Jackie. I love the name!

I have a bunch of cleaning to do but I'll take Shane somewhere for a walk first. Right now I'm listening to squirrels running and playing on my roof. Sounds louder than you'd expect from these little guys and Shane is completely perplexed by it Stick out tongue

Now that I've had a chance to read yesterdays chat.......hey, we all get to take a really DUH moment every now and then!

I got a great deal on boneless skinless breasts and have about 10 pounds of it in the oven with the other goodies now for chicken catciatore.  I love when I can put a couple meals in the freezer in addition to what we eat.  Makes life so much easier on busy nights.

I think everyday about those effected by Sandy, Its heart breaking the things those people have been and are Going through and reminds me to count my blessings everyday.

It is cold here and my fire is taking for ever to warm the house. Winter is coming on and I hate winter. I totally live in the wrong area to hate winter. Now that’s not counting my blessings is it ?

My plan was to work on my leagues web site to day ,because my husband will be gone all day. So no interruptions. But I just cant get motivated to do it.I think I will make some jewerly with the peacock feathers we collected from a peacock that got bailed in a neighbors feild. I always regret not gathering more.

Hope every one has a pleasant week-end.

After work today, I'm going to another teams flyball practice. I'm going to practice running the trainer's dog. She has two dogs running on the same team. So, one needs another handler. My friend and I will be running one. My friend has practiced with him, I have not. Or maybe I have months ago. I'm excited, but I do hope she comes to her senses about running him in his first race. She says it's okay if someone else does it, but I'd want to run my dog for his first race.

Cathy, a lot of them are running out while they wait and that's just fueling the already short tempers.  Some stations have police patroling the lines just to make sure things stay relatively peaceful. I was watching a special on the aftermath of the storm last night and a lot of people seemed really happy that the marathon was canceled ... especially after learning that they had planned to use generators along the route to keep the runners warm.  Really?  With millions of people with no shelter or heat? It just boggles my mind, and now it looks like there's another storm on the way in. The last thing I heard on the  news was that they were flying a lot of big generators in from CA to help and they're sending in utilities crews from here and some other states to help get things back up and running.  Hopefully, the PTB learned something from Katrina about moving quickly.

The first Trader Joes opened here yesterday.  I read in the paper that the line of cars, from both directions, was insanely long and backed up for blocks and blocks.  The store was packed according to the article and will probably remain that way for weeks and weeks.  I'm looking forward to going, but I'm not waiting in line for a grocery store, no matter how cool and quirky it may be.  All I could think of, as I read the article, was the people waiting in line for hours and hours for gas and rations.

Lunch was delicious.Big Smile  I had duck confit hash and my friend had fish and chips.  Both were excellent, if pricey. I got to meet her new dog, Perry, after lunch, and he's so cute.  He's a five year old Cairn mix and a sweetie.  We introduced him to the clicker and it was slow going.  He strikes me as a dog who didn't have much chance to learn how to learn.  He's just getting settled in after three weeks with her and she said he rarely shows much emotion of any kind.  Hopefully he'll gradually start to feel more confident and be able to show his personality.

Off to make something to eat for dinner.  Something easy. :)

Jackie - I was at Trader Joes shortly after they opened yesterday and couldn't believe how crowded it was. Apparently no one works on Fridays around here. I usually try to get there right before it opens and that's about the only way to avoid the crowds Confused

I was chatting on the phone with my friend when I spotted a squirrel in the backyard. It was bravely exploring everything, even getting a few feet from the patio slider. I finally went out to shoo it away but it would let me get within a few feet of it and just stare at me. It was so cute but I knew it wasn't a good pal for Shane, so I tossed a piece of bark at it. Klonked it right on the head and it still just stared at me, so I had to spray it with the hose. Now, I'm feeling a little sad about chasing the poor thing off Sad

Man, what a gorgeous evening!! Tomorrow at this time...it'll be dark Huh?

Bless him, DH tried to take me out to get my mind off things but I can't do anything without thinking of my family. My sister & DH and my brother & his wife went to their house today. Not good. :(

Meanwhile my mom is still without any hope of power or phone lines (sis & DH too) she keeps saying they'll be fine, and i know she will, but goodness me it must be exhausting. I want to do something but can't think of anything right now, nor can she. Very wearing on me at this point.

I am very thankful for Bugsy, his sweet demeanor, wagging tail, and silliness is a wonderful relief
