Sow bug doesn't weave webs in the open according to the info in Karen's link. I agree it was probably one of the orb weavers. Those are one of my favorite spiders. :) I like spiders too as long as they are outside and not venomous. The brown recluse is very reclusive (lol) and they don't make webs out in the open. I doubt it was one of those.
I have them all over the place Jackie -- Inside/outside, laundry room -- in fact I've got both those and black widows all over the place (gotta love those jealousy windows I've got *sigh*)
This web wasn't in the "open". It was in the car (black car and it was dark) -- I'm just glad it was attached from the front to back seat rather than being connected to the door -- it likely would just have dropped to the floor when the door opened in that case.
Recluses LOVE quiet corners -- places like inside my laundry building, under overhangs, and in vegetation (and there are hedges all around the house/yard/fence and this car sits about a foot from the hedge). It was even in a part of the car where it would be disturbed less -- not back where the wheelchair goes in and out, nor up front where we were sitting. It was even on the other side of the car from where David stores my cushion. They do a darned good job of hiding -- the love "under" things (which is how I've gotten nailed both times I've been bitting -- under the clothesline between a couple of shirts that I ducked -- shady even during the day but they get caught in my hair.
David's always checking with me because we get both those and black widows in the house and he never sees the red twinkle on the black widows (and he's actually a bit afraid of those)
I'm less freakish about spiders than I am snakes. Even having a "basement" up north where spiders used to like to hang out - I've never seen lots of spiders until I moved down here. sheesh.
As "ewwww" as the big hunter or wolf spiders are that can be massive, it's the littler ones like the recluse and the black widow that are more dangerous. And because the recluse is normally brown it blends into almost anything. Not at all easy to see.
That was why I wondered if anyone had any brilliant thoughts -- this thing was picture perfect. Such a pretty red on that web. Had we been parked anywhere but where we were, we'd have both had the phones out taking pictures, but this was NOT a good place *sigh* so we wanted outa there.
