    Sunday chatting

We had a search today but since there is plenty of help, I have bowed out, deciding to stay inside where it is warm. I need to bring my cactus in before it freezes to death. I am watching a documentary on machu pichu and smiling. :) it is so cool to see this on tv and know I have been there in person. I don't understand why the people who built it lived there though. I mean, it is very difficult terrain. Why not select a location that isn't on the side of a cliff? Something lower in elevation that doesn't require climbing steep mtns through the jungle? I should go visit my gma today. My brother and sil are running in the chicago marathon today. Brrrr!

I have to go to work later, but that's later. I have no money, because I didn't get paid. Seriously. My check got lost in mail land or something. Now they have to call and get it canceled, and send me a new one. This sucks. I actually do have a bit of money, because I do some work outside of the company from which the check was lost, but it's not enough money. Hopefully the replacement check comes quickly, but I have no clue. I  guess tomorrow is Columbus day. My bank isn't  closed, but theirs might be. It could very well be lost in my house, the way people here get the mail. They just chuck stuff on the table, or on a different table. Nobody could be troubled to put it in the mail holder and sort it for different people.

The sink is completely full and over flowing with dishes. I've been refusing to do them, because they're not my dishes. The kitchen looks like a disaster area, but again, it's because my mom constantly brings home more food without having used what she has. I might just have to clean it up though before she gets home. She went to her class reunion,  and she'll be home later today. As much as I can't take cleaning up after her, I can't take the disgusting mess anymore.

Apparently, my idiot brother in law got in an accident last night. My sister called me this morning and asked if they have to replace my niece's carseat. I called her back and told her to read her manual (which well tell her the seat needs to be replaced no matter the severity of the collision). Honestly, it's not an expensive seat, and they didn't even pay for it anyway. My mom bought it for them, because they were using a totally inappropriate seat. If they go through insurance, insurance should cover it, and if not, I think that particular seat cost $50-60 (which is no financial hardship for them). Still though, if they've ever bothered to read the manual to any of their seats, they should know it needs to be replaced, and not calling me for that info.

Editing to add- there is a potential for Luke's flyball debut next month. First someone would have to see if there is an extra spot on an open team. Then he'd be able to go in for warm ups. If he did well  in warm ups, and his time wouldn't mess up the team, either by causing the team to run to fast for the division and get a break out, or he would cause a definite loss (and the team cares and could still be effected in the standing at the point in the day he was allowed to run). He also is likely to need to be the fourth dog, because he doesn't pass properly coming off the course all the time yet. He goes to the right around the other dog, and he needs to go left. Height dogs often run last anyway though, so that shouldn't be too big a deal.  However, the first if someone has a spot for him. If all the other ifs happen, and he does get a chance to run a heat or two, he is unlikely to make his racing debut with me. I'm taking off of work for the weekend 3 weeks after this tournament to go to another tournament (where he may or may not race, but it's near Hershey so I'm willing to take off and go anyway). I can't take off both of those weekends. Luckily, I only work in the afternoons, and I have a friend who works opposite of me. She's run him in class, and could run him just fine. So, if he gets to race, it'll be with her, and not me.

I started attacking the kitchen. I kid you not when I say I did not even get halfway, and it has already taken about an hour and half. I've also already gotten rid of an entire trash can full of food. I mean the outdoor trash can that we put out the curb too. I've gotten maybe 1/3 of the way around the room, and it's a  small kitchen. I sort of got the sink emptied out. all that was left was silverware, and now it's overflowing again with dishes. At least the table is actually clean. The only things there now are a light for if the power goes out, a candle or two, and the stuff I need to take downstairs for storage. Unfortunately, I will not get this all done before my mom comes back. I really need to get to another cupboard where she apparently has food stored again. Grrr... Years ago, we removed all the food from the bottom cupboards while she was away. We get mice in the house, and one of the things that will promote mice in the house is having food in the lower cupboards, because they can get into those. Somehow they get in through the basement, and come up and into those cupboards, or under the stove. So, food not being down where they can access is very important. Being able to easy sweep up crumbs so they can't eat is also sort of important. Of course, there was a stack of food in the corner (which is the stuff that is now on the table that I need to take downstairs).

Also, I swear my mom owns half the health food store. The entire top of the microwave is full of supplements and vitamins. One person could not safely be taking all those things, except of course for the fact that the crap is so watered down that they don't actually do a damn thing. I know she isn't using all of them, but dog forbid she should look through it and get rid of a bit.

I need to go take a shower and wash the grime off of me before I head to work. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll be back from work before she gets home. She's still going to be pissed off at the amount of expired food I've already gotten rid of.

I don't get running.  I just don't.  Sis (who will be 65 next month) rain the Chicago Marathon in 2001....two weeks later got the MS diagnosis.

Would appreciate good thots and prayers for my boss.  George has been in the hospital since Friday with congestive heart failure.  He put on 26 pounds of fluid in ONE week.  He's a cranky old coot, but he's OUR old coot and we love him.

It's is freezing here.  Friday was almost 80, yesterday started warm and humid and by noontime the temps started dropping...all the way to 33 last night.  Brrrr!

Glenda, good thoughts for your boss. What a huge fluid gain--I can't imagine how uncomfortable he must be!

I've been working on a couple of lap quilts for Veterans. (Our quilt group makes bed and lap quilts for a couple local groups.) Here's a photo of one I finished this week. (The colors don't look quite right in the photo, but you get the idea.)

Off to mow the lawn before the rain gets here.

George is doing a bit better.  He does have pnemonia as well....that's finally been confirmed.  The stubborn old coot made a 6 hour round trip drive on Thursday, feeling like crap, to pick up the newspapers, despite being told by others maybe a zillion times that WE would make the trip for him.  Our office manager said he finally has a little bit of color back and is looking less like a balloon.

Kate, that quilt is absolutely stunning!  Makes me wish I had time to start quilting again.

    Beautiful quilt!

I don't get running either. I never found it enjoyable no matter how much I tried. I would much rather ride a bike. However, I am proud of my brother and sil (and anyone else for that matter) for doing such a difficult sport. God knows how hard it is to get your butt off the couch to even start thinking about running a marathon. We didn't grow up in a naturally athletic family so this kind of stuff doesn't come easy. I just read on fb that his avg pace was 10:50 min/mile. That is pretty good!

I have a monster headache but I did manage to go to the gym and take the dogs to the playground.

I am feeling really sunlight deprived already and it is only oct! I need a sad light I think.

The fall colors are amazing today. We must be at the peak. The reds, oranges and yellows are stunning.

Holy crap Jen!  My kitchen can get that bad with the recycling, apparently I'm the only one who can lift a finger.... Dishes on the other hand get done every night.

So since starting my course I've had 4 tests and I'm proud to say that I'm holding steady with a high B average Smile

Ok! Dodger has some wicked paint peeling gas!! *dies*

I heard something on the news that struck me as totally nuts.  It seem that all over the place people are storming irately out of Starbucks because they're running short of the pumpkin spice syrup and people can't get their pumpkin spice lattes. I tried one a couple of years ago and I wasn't really impressed with it.  If I'm going to have pumpkin, I'd rather have pumpkin pie or pumpkin soup, and Trader Joe's has a really yummy pumpkin soup.

It's still in the mid 60s right now, so I guess fall has officially arrived!  Yea!!

I used to run marathons and still would if my body didn't mind, my build is more linebacker than distance runner and these days I wind up with a joint injury every time I push past 6 miles or so. Very frustrating. In fact I bought new running shoes today in the hopes they'll keep the plantar fasciitis from screaming.

Kate that quilt is stunning!! Well done!

London broil, acorn squash and rice a roni for dinner :)

Joyce that is crazy about the coffee! I don't have much of a sweet tooth so syrupy coffees aren't my thing

DH is a runner. Runs for an hour a day - EVERY DAY. I tried at the beginning of this year to run and frankly I get too bored. After about 15 minutes or so I start checking the time constantly. I would love it if I had the patience and the time to run. I would love running first thing in the morning, but I don't. CRAP Riley fell asleep at 5:30 and is dead to the world. Not sure if I should wake her or not. She's probably wiped out from the antibiotics and hasn't been sleeping. Plus riding always tires her out. Please send sleepy vibes so she sleeps through the night.

    Beautiful quilt, Kate!

Beef stew and cornbread on the first cool night of Fall. :)

I've never had the pumpkin things at Starbucks. There is a bread bakery here that has an excellent pumpkin cinnamon chip bread. I should go get some maybe.

I got maybe halfway on the kitchen project. My mom actually did get up and clean the dishes in the sink. There's still some cupboards to check through for expired stuff, which will hopefully make room for some of the stuff piled on the remaining counter tops, and stuff to take downstairs. Then I should probably replace the light bulbs in the light down here so I can clean that room up. However, it's garbage day tomorrow, and the cans are full, so it's not getting worked on again till maybe next weekend.

I am eagerly hoping for an email regarding a possible spot for Luke in the flyball tournament. However, my email was hopefully only just passed along today, and the person who will contact me is probably traveling next weekend, so I imagine she might be busy.  There is another team that sometimes practices with my team, and they may have a spot for him too, but I'd have to talk to them next week if they show up.

Ohhh Kate -- that quilt is GORGEOUS!!!
