Thursday chat

I got interupted while trying to post the first time so by the time I finished it Jackie and Twister were done!  Glad it went well.

Karen the apnea is so weight related too.   When Ron lost a lot of weight many years ago his sleep apnea and diabetes was very controlable but with weight gain he is using a CPap.  Has been for about 10 years.  The first several months was difficult for him but now he sleeps so much better and relies on it to get that "good" sleep.

Cathy I have the foam earplugs but perhaps I need to go up a notch

I've tried the foam and it did little to help but not nearly enough. Give the waxy ones a try and I'll bet you'll get the best night's sleep you've ever had. I even use them when I take a nap because I'm so sensitive to every little noise. When I put the ear plugs in, it's like I've truly checked out. Bliss!!

I swear the squirrels around here are getting a kick out of taunting Shane. One we saw this morning actually came down the tree trunk and hung there awhile. I'm pretty sure he was sticking his tongue out at us :)

Yay for Twister & Jackie! I hope that this helps and he has little to no side effects.

Cathy, I think the squirrels do taunt our dogs. When Shari got so arthritic she couldn't chase them and they figured out she was no threat, they'd get within a couple feet of her face as if to say "neener neener".

Although we don't get the brilliant foliage displays as some of you do (too many evergreen trees here), we're having a stretch of weather you'd all envy.  I think Tiffy posted the other day we've had almost no measureable rainfall in weeks.  Bright blue skies, afternoon temps in the 70's, nights and early mornings in the 40's and 50's.  Perfect for sleeping and perfect for enjoying time in the yard with Ruby in the afternoons.

Speaking of sleeping, add me to the "losing sleep because of snoring partners" club.  Last night I spent a lot of time yanking covers, pushing pillows, poking arms -- anything to disrupt DH's snoring pattern (short of bopping him on the head!).  Even if he rolls over, the snoring resumes in a few minutes.  Once I'm awake because of it, it's a battle to fall back to sleep.  I sub-consciously start listening for hints of him starting again.  I'm a very light sleeper, so even the smallest sounds wake me.  A gentle "breathing snore" is one thing, but a "cartoon style snore" is intolerable.  I've tried foam earplugs, but they don't block out all the sound, and I often sleep on my side, so they're uncomfortable.

Does anyone know of someone who has tried those mouth guard things that supposedly put the jaw in a certain position that prevents or reduces snoring?  One of my bosses got one from a dentist or oral surgeon a few years ago, and he had good results.  Might be something to consider as a "club experiment."  The trick is getting the snorers to see a doctor!!

Glad to hear that Twister's appointment went well -- give him some ear rubs from me, and I hope the side effects are minimal.

Glenda, sending you and your family strong vibes.  I hope each day brings more strength to all of you as you each work through your grief in your individual ways.  Hugs to you.

Ha! This is what they do to Rocky or rather did until he climbed the tree after one, lol, now the word in the trees is.....that is a cat-dog he can climb trees better be ready to run. Stick out tongue

    Yayyyy Twister!  And ((((Jackie))))

As winter approaches, the squirrels seem to be turning suicidal.  I certainly hope that isn't because they'll do anything to avoid a bad winter!  There is one down the road that I swear waits for me, then starts a mad dash into the road, stops and starts running circles in the MIDDLE of the road, then reverses and goes the other way a couple of times before dashing back to where he came from or to the other side.  Then of course there are the random squirrels that just wait for any car and start their mad dash.  Reminds me of that TV commercial of the squirrels high fiving and giggling after they make a car run off the road.

Thanks for all the hugs.  DH really has me concerned.

Jackie - I am so glad to hear it went well!!

Karen - my sister uses the wax ear plugs and she says they work wonders.

Well, we got a call from Riley's school today.  She was fine this afternoon before school, but by 3:00 she had a 103 temp.  DH went and got her and I met them at the doc's since she was complaining about her ears.  She has a double ear infection.  THis would explain why she got so sick for no reason on Monday.  At least we know what it is!!  Now, the fun part of hinding the powder (they give it to us in these mammoth capsules so we can break them open) begins.  Riley will be happy though, it means ice cream at least once a day.

Oh poor Riley and poor you and your DH but yes, good to know what's going on.  I hope she takes her meds so she can get her ice cream and that she's better soon.  Sending speedy healing vibes for her.

Well, since we mix the powder in her ice cream, its pretty much one in the same LOL I also learned today that DH is totally unequipped to take her to the docs alone. She has to be restrained for portions of the exam (mostly the ear exam) and he was such a girlie about holding her legs down. He almost got kicked in the face. You can tell who has had to do all the dirty work at the docs these past years LOL

Yesterday, warm and sunny. Today, my fingers turned blue. I wore gloves at work. On the plus side, Piper works better in cold weather. On our run at the WMA, she went into her rocking horse gait, used in high grass when hunting. Then put up two pheasants. A successful outing for her. She's a little stiff in the rear end right now, but still seems pleased with herself.

     Poor Riley!

But lol about the "dirty work." I know exactly how you feel!
