Cell phone thoughts - any techies?

 I've heard great things about the Galaxy 3. I have a Droid 3 and am not exactly thrilled.

We have Samsung Galaxy S2s,  I'm not using many of it's features but the ones I use are easy and the camera is a good one.  It is kind of big but I don't use it a whole lot and size hasn't been a problem. Overall, as a not very techie person, I think it's a good phone. :)  So does my techie husband.

Let me ask- do you really need the features of a smart phone, let alone the fee for a data package? Believe it or not, you can still get "dumb phones".

ETA- I've had an LG Cosmos since they first came out (spring of 2010).  My first one developed an issue that summer, but the replacement they sent me has been going strong ever since. 

 I'm an iphone loyalist... but I think the question of whether you need a smart phone is a good one. Also, is your current phone still working. If it is, there may be no good reason to go run out and get a new one. If you do want an iphone, do you need the iphone 5? You could get something cheaper by getting a 4s, or I believe the current free one is an iphone 4. I'd never go back 2 generations when purchasing an apple product new though, because they tend only to support 2 generations back. The ios6 update dropped support for the 3GS. My dad had a 4, and my mom had a 3GS. My dad just got the 5, and my mom took his old 4. If money were tight but I wanted an iphone, I'd probably choose whatever is one back from the current model.

Tough call, if it were me I would weigh the 4s versus the galaxy II to save a bit of cash up front. Those are the two I was debating last year and I went with the iPhone because I had an iPad. I've asked myself over and over whether I would make the same choice again, and I don't know. I despise iTunes and that alone has me leaning toward leaving Apple when it's time for an upgrade, plus I hate their business model. The phones are sleek and strait forward to use but I believe the new android phones are superb and more advanced than even the 5. The 5 is disappointing other than them finally making it bigger. Not a good enough reason to purchase the 5 over 4s IMO. The fact your fami,y has iPhones allows you to 'FaceTime' them to save call minutes. And you can save data usage by only using data when on a wifi. Lastly considered getting a free google voice account - free calls in the US & Canada and a ton of great features.

I think that if your phone is still working fine, then no need to buy another one. The Galaxy does seem quite huge to me too, I have to have a phone that will fit in my pocket. As for the iPhone 5, I like the iPhone system better, but the iPhone 5 is big too, and I'm not quite sure why they made it a little bigger... but if I really had to go for one, I would go with the iPhone.

well- i went with the i-phone.  I watched a long video (review) by a woman who went through the features of each phone.  Basically she said if you want something simple that does a fantsatic job - get the i-phone.  If you want to be able to customize your phone and  and get into all kinds of things - go with the samsung.  I'm simple.  Thanks for the input.
