Five second background:
We found out in May that Riley's arthritis caused her right leg to grow more than 1 inch longer than her left leg. Much concern was abound and she had to have minor surgery in June to help correct it. If this surgery did not work, we would have to start a series of either weekly steroidal injections or daily pills. Both of which would have elicted once a month blood draws and monitoring and the countless side effects they bring on.
Back to the present:
Had her legs measured this week in order to get orthodics. When they measured the difference it was down to 1/4 of an inch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost peed my pants. Not only does it mean we don't have to buy special special orthodics (we can just buy over the counter inserts instead of building up her shoe), but for now, we can COMPLETELY avoid any type of steroid!!! We also found out from her blood work that she is not a carrier of this one gene that would make her more suseptible to an eye disease associated with girls and arthritis!
The doc also confirmed that the riding lessons we hopefully will be starting on Saturday are just fine and they encourage them!!
WHOOOOP
Here is a picture of her knees - its hard to tell but you can see the difference between May and last night. Her affected knee is about twice the size and that won't change since its boney overgrowth; however, the fluid is alot lower!
