    Wicked Wednesday

have a huge headache this morning - just sinus stuff due to the constant wet weather, could do without it

I have contacted the ortho vet to further discuss B - I have all along thought it was his neck and think that is the issue. I'd like to start doing something to help

I am looking forward to my talk over at the vet school

and really looking forward to Friday!!

OOPS! apparently I left one of the garage doors open all night Embarrassed

eta: Joyce I think Jan is on to something with her decorating ideas

Jano the most likely reason your family sticks their nose up about new things is because its so different - I think that if they regularly had change in their diet they would be more likely to not be put off by new stuff. My younger sister gives the kids the mac n cheese, pizza, etc and my niece will only eat that - my brother's kids got whatever was dinner and they have always been more willing to try new stuff. Just a thought

Karen, your thot is a good one.  Once my jerk of an ex left and veggies no longer needed to be smothered in cheese sauce, my kids started to love veggies.  No other food had ever been an issue.

A tiny bit of progress may have been made in the hostilities with the neighbor.  His giant pine tree split and fell into our yard sometime Monday night.  When he went out to take care of it, I suggested to DS that he offer to help, which he did, and the two of them spent 2 1/2 hours working hard together.  Neighbor even spoke with me in a non-hostile manner.  I will take any progress I can get!

Sorry, but our weather is finally perfect!  Upper 70's, chilly nights, but lovely, blue skied days and very low humidity.  Absolute heaven for me.

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here. 80s and sunshine. Can hardly beat that.

I am feeling good enough that I could prob go to work so I might just get some things done around the house then go in for a half day.

Other than that, there's nothing going on. Pretty boring day here

Great news about your hearing, Julie!

Jano, I'll come help you with those leftovers - zucchini marinara - yummo!

Last night I got home from work and DS was planning on grilling pork chops. He'd also peeled potatoes and set them to boiling so I could make cheesy mashed potatoes. I'm not sure why he used the whole 5lb bag of potatoes for 2 of us, but now I have plenty leftover to fry up and eat the rest of the week.

I've missed a few things around the forum the last few days, but not the spammer this morning!  Gah!  Thanks for reporting, Tina - I killed all of it. But like weeds, I suppose another will be back.

How is August almost over?  How is this possible?

Julie, I really hope you're feeling relief and healing for your ears.

I'll be right over to help you get rid of those potatoes.

We got excellent news from Rileys docs yesterday - will be starting a thread.

My parents are jetting off to waste my inheritence in Atlantic City today.  They will be celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary.  We have already started the 50th anniversary plans.  Whoo Hoo!

Busy day here but very excited the temps are getting out of the 70's and into the mid 80's.  The break was nice but I was starting to get a little nervous.  LOL

Julie, despite feeling good today, please try to remember that your body has been through heck the last couple weeks and you really need to give it a chance to properly heal.  I know, I know, perpetual mother, but, I'm just saying......

I don't know why anyone would want to do AC, when the casinos in the surrounding states are much nicer, and there are many available where you don't risk your life. I guess if you like to hop from casino to casino, that's about the only appeal of that place. I did go last year, because I had a comped room for a night, and there was a conference in AC that I wanted to go to. So, I used my comp and paid for the other night. You know it's bad, there were several conferences there the the days I was there, and I think my room was still no more than $60 for the night I paid for it. I'm only maybe going one day to the same conference this year, because Atlantic City is so not appealing if I'm paying to be there, and I refuse to pay to see the keynote speakers on the days I won't go to (because celebrity speakers who pay people to take care of their kids really have nothing to offer me).

My friend's son, who is 13 months old, she claims he doesn't eat green things. His parents don't eat green things, so that doesn't surprise me. It's funny, but when my 19 month old niece comes over, we eat better than we would normally, because we want her to eat good stuff. We go out to a restaurant, and I'll order  a salad with my meal because we know she'll definitely eat from the salad. Unless of course she's trying to see what she'll be offered if she doesn't eat. My mom is pretty good for that (producing more stuff if she doesn't eat). I say let her be hungry if she doesn't eat. It's pretty funny though that she won't really eat too many fried foods like chicken nuggets, and my mom ordered me crab cakes once fried instead of broiled, and I had to pick the breading off before she'd eat it. Picky kids would probably hate me really fast. If she's with me, if she doesn't eat (and I do give her a few different things) I just stick the plate right in the fridge. You can have it back later. Whatever happened to eat it or starve?

I'll be joining Deb at Tina's house to help finish off the potatoes. Big Smile

My MIL dropped by some zucchini, tomatoes and another huge watermelon last night. She's the bestest MIL in the world!!

I found out about a dog walker's meet-up group yesterday afternoon. They meet on Tuesday evenings about 1/4 mile from my house and one of our former forum members was going to be there. I really wanted to go and to meet her but I ended up getting busy with other stuff when I got home. Hopefully I can make it next week.

I got Shane an appt with the TCVM vet for a week from this Friday and I'm pretty excited to see what she suggests. If the area on the sides of the nose aren't better, maybe she can tell me what that is too.

I feel for parents with kid eating issues - probably because I am one  Riley has them.  And before all of you judge and tell me what I did wrong,

    1.  Riley always ate what we ate

    2.  I never bought baby food - I just mashed up what we were having for dinner and she loved it

    3.  I cook dinner 6 nights a week every week.  I make a protein, veggie, high fiber carb and salad

    4.  Snacks in our house consistent of fruit, pretzels, and goldfish crackers.  Snacks are at a set time a few hours before dinner.

One thing I learned as a parent, never judge what other parents do to make it through the day so they don't loose their mind.  Those people that turn their nose up at you at the store, restaurant where ever aren't home with your child everyday in and out.  Doesn't mean your kid can run wild, but I think people either forget what it is like to have little ones and be awake 20 hours a day trying to make it all work or 2 have never had kids so its easy to judge.

Riley's eating issues started about 2 1/2 and just now we are able to get her to eat something other than ravioli, chicken, and bread.  She does eat a ton of berries, pears, apples, and other fruit.  She eats natural yogurt for breakfast with granola and berries.  She WILL NOT TOUCH A VEGETABLE at all with the exception of raw mushrooms - go figure.

Sorry if it sounds like I have my back up, but this topic gives me a rise.  Even when you do everything right they do have a mind of their own.  They like what they like and I think what people don't understand is that kids' taste buds are different than ours.  They experience textures differently than we do.  I will not force or starve my kid so I can proclaim - they eat everything I put in front of them.  I have distinct memories of gagging over meals when I was little, just to get the food down.  Nope, not going to do that.

Bravo!  I was forced as a child to eat what was put in front of me and I vowed never to do that to a child.  My nieces and nephews all went through stages of only eating certain foods even though they were exposed to all sorts of different foods from early childhood.  I remember one nephew, who went the entire weekend I babysat him, eating only pretzels and bananas.  lol  I think the more it's made into a big deal the more problems it creates for the child and the parents.

    Save some potatoes for me!

Karen, I'm glad you're calling the ortho doc about B.

I had a mini melt down last night about Twister.  Shook myself off and got over it but my eyes are red and swollen this morning.  Work is busy so I better get back to it.

I'm with you, Lisa. I still cannot stomach the smell or taste of peas and I don't do cold potatoes and I am 45. Thanks, mom & dad. Yeah, I get that they grew up during the Depression, but by the 1970s, it was over. Really.
