Happy birthday Old man Picture added

Dipstick is 18 today... He came to us shortly before his 17th birthday and we swore that he was on death's door. Now a year later, he's healthy, happy and lovin' life.

Obviously he has his old age issues. His eye sight is going, he has the odd accident in his sleep, a disc in his spine is degenerating so he's on pain killers. But he still loves going for his walks, even thou they're not as far or as fast anymore and we take many breaks. We still play fetch a few times a week, we call it old man fetch where we roll the ball a couple feet for him and he prances after it. The vet is very impressed with his condition and uses Dipstick as an example for what a healthy senior should look like.

Happy Birthday old man and may you stay with us for as long as you like.

Dipstick got a hamburger pattie all to himself tonight.. Dodger was jealous...

That is so wonderful! Makes me happy this morning to just hear that. How lucky that Dipstick has lived a long happy life and more to come. Happy Birthday Old fellow! Kissy's from Ava

YAY! And this is why I **LOVE** old dogs. You give an older dog the gift of a wonderful last few years and you have done something enormous. You can *manage* those age issues ... But seeing them enjoy their days? It is a rush, isn't it?? It's like they "enjoy" things more deeply -- "See what *I* can do??"

And ... when you 'teach' an old dog something -- getting them to "perform" in front of puppies. It makes putting your old bones in a 'sit' worth it!! *I* SHOWED them how!!

It's like this mega ego boost for them. There was NUFFIN my old Foxy the MOstlie sheltie loved more than to go to 'basic obedience' classes and show the "kids" how to!! LOL -- vain little stinker!! You could almost hear him say "um ... step aside Kid - I'll show ya how to PLEASE the human!!! It's easy"

LOL -- GO DIPSTICK GO!!!

Dipstick says Fanks for all the wishes and cookies (his favorite!). Callie, it's funny you mention that cuz my puppy trainer has requested that I bring Dipstick to class one of these days to help the puppies learn how to act around the old guys. Thankfully Dipstick LOVES puppies. LOL

Thanks for the picture -- I was talking to DAvid about him at dinner LOL (and David was laughing remembering how much Foxy LOVED to "show up" all the puppies!!!!!
