Dog Friendly Renting

    Dog Friendly Renting

I live in a small valley in Utah. It's not exactly what you might call a dog community. There are virtually no dog parks, very few people parks allow them even on leashes. The humane Society tries, but falls short of many of thier goals. The animal control program is a joke and finding somewhere to live that will allow pets of any kind can be a nightmare!

After searching and searching, filling out application after application, about a thousand phone calls and being greeted with nothing but rejection, I have finally secured a residence for my furry family! I am thrilled! It has large yard with the river running right through the back of the property! Oh how Murphy will love to swim every single day! I am just feeling grateful and feel like sharing with those who I'm sure have had similar difficulties! Thanks for Listening!

Glad to hear you found a place to rent that allows pets. :)  It sounds really neat with the river running through the back of the property.

I'm so happy that you found a home for the fur babies! It sounds wonderful. Maybe when you get settled in you could share some pictures of the yard and the river. I am sure your fur babies will be so excited! Willow-our new rescue puppy

     Glad you found a place!

Around here, folks often post on craigslist in the pet section asking for ideas where to go that allows pets.  When I was renting, I only had a cat or 2, so really didn't have to deal with it.  Usually, it is easier to find a duplex if you have dogs, rather than a large complex.

I couldn't tell from your description, is the yard fenced in -- or are you going to have to go out with him each and every time to make sure he does NOT go swimming when you are rushing out?  LOL

Craigs List was one of the first places I looked, actually. I also have a camper, 2 trucks(one work, one personal), and a car for running around in. So parking was also an issue. Also most of the community is LDS here, which I have no problems with, however they often have a problem renting to unmarried couples. Or if roomates are needed they can be made uncomfortable easily with little lifestyle differences, like beer, or what have you. So along with the dogs we had some other obstacles to overcome as well :) For most of the houses, the dogs, in combination with the other "hang-ups", were the deal breakers. I had to bribe these owners with an exrta large, non-refundable, pet deposit and some fresh baked pies. I haven't decided what flavor to make, yet. LOL

It is not completely fenced, yet. I am going to offer to put one up. A nice one if they will take it off the rent. One that will just work if they dont want to re-emburse us for materials. They listen really well, but I would really love to be able to let them run around outside while I am at work. There will be pleny of shade and sunny spots. I would also like to rig up a fresh river water system, if I can.

Your new home sounds absolutely beautiful.  I know you and your animals will be happy there.  Maybe share how you found something.  I know when I first started looking for a place I really had a hard time too, but it only lasted a week.  Then without really trying more places became available or God placed them on my path.
