In place of an epi pen, you might ask for a shot of dexamethasone (steroid) and/or injectable Benadryl. I have both at the house now. Jezzy has gotten progressively worse with her reaction to stings, especially bees. Last time she got stung by a bee, she was having seizures (despite the children's benadryl that I got in her) before we could head out the door to the vet. I asked for an epi pen but Dr. W said that due to the problems it can cause with the heart, it can potentially be more harmful than helpful. But, the steroid shot that I have now, is the same thing they give her at the office. The injectable Benadryl was given to us after Keela had her anaphylactic reaction last year. We are 30 minutes from a vet (and that's just travel time), so I feel a lot better having both here. I always give children's Benadryl and the dex shot while I call the vet. They know I have stuff here, so if the vet thinks she needs something else on board before we get to the office, to give us that time to travel safely, we can do so.
I hope Gabby is feeling better. Give her some kisses for me! Leave those stinging bugs alone girly! Hugs to you too!!!
