Happy Sunday chat

I actually did sleep in today.  Was up at 2 because I got too warm and had to move the fan to blow on me, then up again at 6 for the bathroom, and then woke up a few times before I finally decided to actually GET up.

Getting the laundry done, which, since its raining requires a quick air dry cycle before I hang stuff up inside.  Will NOT use the heat of the dryer since it is a propane sucking, heat blasting beast......

It's been raining on and off, but mostly on, for two days now.  68 right now with an expected high of 72, but up to 80 tomorrow with more storms and rain.  I refuse to complain tho, since rain is soooo badly needed.

I have a black krim *almost* ripe.......

 Luke and I were out walking this morning. He decided to go down the side of the path, and got a bunch of stuff stuck in his hair. It took my mom and I 45 minutes to brush it out. I'll have to get him something really good later for his amazing tolerance during that ordeal.

Glenda, a Black Krim is almost ready already?! (that's a tomato, just in case folks were wondering :-). Wow--I'm just getting a few couple Early Girls, but I got the plants in really late, so I'm not complaining. We got rain yesterday-finally. The garden is very happy today. The dogs got in a mid-morning walk, since it's so nice out. Both are sleeping now.

I stayed up waaaaay too late watching the women's team handball. (I'm in bed by 9 or 9:30 most nights--it was almost midnight last night!). Today, I'm slugging away on a huge report for national accreditation. Maybe I'll go back to bed for awhile.

Made a gazpacho-like soup yesterday from all the garden had to offer. That's for lunch today. Happy dance.

I slept in even later than I usually do on the weekend (I'm NOT a morning person).  DH was snoring way too loudly from about midnight until nearly 4am, so once I fell asleep, I had to catch up on a few lost hours. 

The hummingbirds are on the crocosmia and goldfinch are on the feeder as I type this.  It's a bit cool to sit outside yet (61 degrees and totally overcast).  Maybe it'll clear up.  Yesterday started out like this, but turned out to be a beautiful warm, sunny day. 

My friend and I will take Ruby on a long walk in an hour, then I'll help DH with the painting now that he's on to the easier stuff (roller work, not detailed trim stuff).  My hands aren't steady enough for the trim work.

We had a delicious dinner last night at my favorite pasta place (not exactly gourmet Italian, but far better than Olive Garden).  We sat outside and were entertained by a squirrel who was hovering nearby.  DH and our friend tossed him some bread pieces.  We enjoyed watching him, but the Boxer a few tables away was going bonkers when he spotted him.  Luckily he was securely tied to his person's chair.  We wondered if he'd pull their table of food over!

Kate, I've been getting juliettes, cherrys and have already picked a couple dozen early girls.  I've never had a black krim, but my "second spare son" the chef says they are the absolute best in Italian so that's why I decided to do some this year.  I hope they are as good as he says!

I have a second batch of taters ready to go out and a few plants that I might have to dig now since the foilage is looking pretty cruddy.  I may try to do some weeding today since we've had all the lovely rain and the roots aren't dug into concrete.

Glenda, you're putting in a second batch of potatoes? I hadn't thought of that. Do you use the same patch or do you let it rest and plant in a different spot? (So many questions, I know-I just never thought of two batches of potatoes!) I am totally in love with the Viking purples I planted--they are beautiful and yummy.The Green Mountains are also really nice--a really good russet. I've harvested all of them except one plant that has some growth that hasn't died yet. I did get in round 2 of beets--three different kinds. They probably won't get real big, but that's fine. I grew the black krims and several other heirlooms last year. We had water issues, so I didn't get as many as I had hoped for. I did like them. I also grew a puple plum tomato that I really liked. I can't remember the name...

Just watched the women's archery--I would love to try that--no running required. I also want to try curling, but I know I'd end of head over keister on the ice :-)  The Boston Globe had a great "big picture" summary listing of all the Olympics on each channel each day. Will try to copy and post. I love to see the sports you just don't get to see otherwise. Badminton is on soon. (I think it's on NBC SN.)

I took Shane for a walk and decided against the farmer's market. His "leave it" needs a lot of work and I didn't want to have to deal with all the yummy things he'd be interested in. The rescue just asked for volunteers to come and bring their dogs to a fundraiser at a pet store next Sat. I said we'd try to make it and that alone is incentive enough to really work on some of our training. We also have orientation for the pet therapy program in Sept., and I want that to go well.

Gazpacho = yummy!!! and even more so when it's from veggies you grew yourself. Lucky you!

I was wondering, so thanks Kate.  We're supposed to reach the high 90s to maybe 100 in the next few days so I'm enjoying the low to mid 70s right now.

I need to force myself out the door and into the car.  Home Depot is having an appliance sale and I really want a new fridge.  The one I've got is still working (except for the ice maker) but I really hate that bottom freezer.  I want to go back to a nice side by side. It's getting harder to find them in a width that fits the space it has to go in (no more than 33";) - some of the newer ones are so wide they look like they belong in a restaurant kitchen.  Maybe the narrower one, if I can find one, will be cheaper because it's smaller. I can only hope.

I was out weeding the tater patch and happened to notice THREE krims almost ready.

Yes, I'll use the same patch for the new round of taters.  I still have a lot of russets out there doing their thing and some yukon golds.  My purple taters are behind the others because they took so darned long to start sprouting.  Those are in a different part of the garden.  I added a lot of compost to the tater end this year so I don't think it really needs a heck of a lot of rest yet.

 1 more day in vacation paradise then it is back to reality. It has been a blast. You folks need to come along next time :)

 Don't know if I've told this story before or not. You folks with the vegetable gardens...anyone have any bean picking cats around? Way back when.....my Dad thought a rabbit was stealing the beans off of the plants, that is until he caught one of our cats doing it. A few years later, after I was out on my own with the cats, this same kitty comes proudly carrying a bean to bring to me. Don't know whose garden she stole it out of.

Had a nice couple of hours on a sandy beach today. It was rather crowded but we were able to find a spot a ways down the beach. Dogs love the water but poor Corey boy is afraid to swim. He wants to be in it and will fetch all day if you'd let him. He had to swim some. It's funny though, every time his toy was thrown out where he would be over his head, he'd get it. He'd be rather frantic getting it though and then have to go back to the shore. The shore was a ways away, as you could walk out quite a bit before it got deep at all. If you just threw it where it wasn't over his head he'd come right back...didn't seem to have the need to go all the way into the shore.

Sheba was that way about water.  She'd follow me anywhere, including water, but she sure didn't like it!

Our cocker, Lady, used to steal my squash.  I'd just start getting hopeful about the yellow squash and zuchini, and they'd disappear.  I was cussing the gophers out big time that summer....until I caught Lady red pawed!  LOL!
