Hump Day Chat

I'm going to see the Allman Brothers and Carlos Santana tonight.

I have the 2 x 4 ready for the first person who makes an "I'm too old to be alive" joke.

I've been known to make that recipe in desperation when I only have a half-pint of those pear tomatoes, but I add a small can of drained chopped tomatoes or chop up a "regular" tomato if we have one on hand.  My favorite is to make it when you have a mix of red and yellow/golden pear or cherry tomatoes.  It looks pretty AND tastes great!  I should've mentioned that you can use dried basil or marjoram rather than fresh -- just add it before serving, since dried herbs don't hold up as well in the roasting process.

Cathy, I'm sure you're right that we'll really enjoy the carpet once it gets installed (anything will be better than the horrible stuff we've had for several years).

Now we've got to finish painting our bedroom while the old carpet is still here.  Nice not having to worry about splattering paint on the floor!  I will say that I'm very happy with the color we chose for that part of the project -- it's called Sensible Hue from Sherwin Williams.  It's a greyish-green.  I usually avoid greys in this climate (too much like the sky), but my friend has it in her bedroom, and it's so gorgeous -- very restful, almost spa-like.  So much nicer than the plain white we've got now!

Deb, I think we're close to the same age, so no comments from me.  All I'd say is that you have good taste in music.  Sounds like a great show -- enjoy it!!

That sounds sooooo good, but way too healthy.   Since I figure eating pasta is not worth the effort unless it has a bazillion calories in it, would add some butter, about a cup of the salty pasta cooking water, some canned artichoke hearts and a ****load of parmesean cheese. Embarrassed

Mr. W. sounds like Mr. Tracy. We've been to shows where he hasn't even so much as tapped his toes!  It has to be someone he really loves, and then he might clap at the end of a few songs, but that's about as animated as he gets.

My thoughts are with you Jackie & Twister, and with Lani & Logan.  So tough to watch your friend going through a medical situation that neither of you have any control to fix it.

Gracie's leg is not broken and she doesn't have cancer that they could find.  Lymphocytes look like what they would expect.  Suspect she has cellulitis in her leg causing the swelling, but she's not painful or lame, so just treating with what must be a superduty antibiotic, since she only takes it once a day w/food.

Just found out an hour or so ago that Gracie's brother died.  Per his owner "they found that he had a large collection of blood around his heart which they removed and he immediately got better. He was ok overnight but when the Ultrasound MD looked at his heart the next day she saw a large tumor in his right atrium of the heart and it was bleeding into the sac around the heart. There was no treatment option so I left work and we put him down"

Now we're wondering if the other brother (who was found dead in May) may have died from the same thing.  I'm working to set up echo/ekg/eval w/a cardiologist at Tufts as soon as I can. I know she's 9yrs old, and I won't go to extreme measures, but I cannot take it if she were to die suddenly with no warning like that.

Funny that you should say that Deb cause the other recipe on the BC show yesterday was a lemon fusilli and it was basically a lemon cream sauce. Man, did that look good too. I'm going to have trouble gagging down my lunch after thinking about all this yummy food.

By the way - I would love to join you at that concert. The Allman Brothers were a favorite of mine when I was younger.

Yet, take them to a ball game or football game and  they scream like idiots.  Sigh  . . . . .

DH will yell and scream by himself in the living room while watching a football game on TV.  But in a huge concert hall, with music blaring and joyous energy all around, people on their feet singing and dancing?  Nah, he's too cool for that!  Wink

Paige, I'm sorry to hear about Gracie's brother.  And I must have missed that you had a worry about something on her leg.  I hope it resolves quickly with the medication.

As luck would have it, I also grow my own basil. I love fresh basil!

I'd also add parmesan cheese, but I'd skip the butter and other stuff Deb mentioned (no offense, Deb).

Paige, I didn't know you were worried about Gracie having cancer. I hope whatever it is heals quickly.

I don't do FB, so can you share what's up with Lani & Logan? Regardless, good thoughts going out to them, too.

Well, I do FB but I hadn't seen anything. I hope it's nothing too serious. Also, sending calming vibes your way Paige. It must be hard not to worry but hopefully the extra testing will relieve your mind.

My gosh Paige!  You've got a load on your mind.  Calming thots for you and good thots for Gracies brothers people.

I'm with you Tina.  Maters and basil just go together.  Why grow one without the other?

I am a BAD girl.  The witchy neighbor was waddling around her yard when I was digging taters and gave me what for for bending over.

W:  We are TIRED of looking at your big butt.

Me:  Well, then, I would suggest you stop looking

W:  And MUST you eat things right out of the garden without washing them first??  How disguisting...it makes me ill

Me:  You know, I'm not aware of any neighborhood rule that requires folks with decks to sit on them with their binoculars and spy on others.  Just stop looking and you'll be far less offended.

She made a sound that I *think* was a harump and shook the ground waddling away.

I'll put my size 8 butt up against her size whatever butt any day of the week.  At least when I bend over it doesn't look like the satelite dish fell off the roof.

Paige, I didn't know you were taking Gracie in for such serious possibilities.  I'm glad all is ok other than the scary news about her sibling.

I took Twister back to the vet hospital.  He got much worse this afternoon.  He can't keep anything down and was staggering and shivering and making the most weird moaning sound.  Scared the living crap out of me and I'm still scared but calmed down some.  I've never seen such a reaction 24 hours post op.  I hope he's just dehydrated but haven't heard yet.  He's been there about an hour now.
