sluggish sunday

    sluggish sunday

I stayed up pretty late last night cleaning and doing laundry. I think I am the only person on the planet who was vacuuming my floors at midnight on a sat night. Yes, I live an exciting life ;p So, I stayed up late and got up early. I am tired! Right now I am sitting in the weeds, hiding for the sar pups. It is going to be a hot one today. I am already sweating and it is only 9. I should take a nap while laying here

VERY sluggish here. And VERY tired of being wet. I have a desire to stay inside ALL day!

Posted about the wet concert last night - it really was fabulous - I posted a few pics and links on my FB page. But we were so cold on the way home and poor B was wound up like a clock due to the extreme lightning so I had to take a short wander with him. While it was STILL storming Angry We saw a neighbor out that knows B stresses in lightning and she said she was thinking about him because it doesn't bother her and she was freaking.

Anyway it was VERY late when I finally went to bed and the curse of being me is that I was wide awake at 5:46 Sad I managed to wait until 6:20 to get up though

I had intended to work in the yard some and to kayak but right now I am curled up watching the final round of the Open and imagine doing much other than drinking coffee and eating LOL

B is crashed out, DH is surfing YouTube videos of Glen Campbell. It was so amazing - DH is so very English and rarely shows much emotion but he was downright joyful listening to Glen last night. So wonderful to see him like that

So Julie I wasn't cleaning at midnight I was walking a wired dog in a heavy thunderstorm Wink

Julie - aren't you getting super excited about your trip?

Karen - I'm sorry you had storms in the middle of your concert but so glad your DH enjoyed it that much. Do you have to crate Bugsy when you're gone and it's stormy weather? Also, since I'm full of questions this morning, I was thinking about the kayak again. I think it said it was about 65 lbs, right? Are you able to load that on top of the SUV and unload that by yourself?

DH left before 7 for a bike ride. He loves to get to the trail before anyone else and since it's going to be 100+ today, he wanted to beat the heat. I need to get showered and go grocery shopping.

My friend called last night and while we were chatting the storm knocked out their power. Her DH had gone to a sports bar with a friend, so she was alone in the dark and heat and not able to get around very well. I felt horrible for her...again :(.

Cathy I think it is @ 65lbs and yes I was able to lift it from the garage to the grass. Then you tilt it up onto the car and slide it onto the carrier - which is why I bought this carrier. The hardest part is picking the boat up but it has handles on each side so it's awkward but doable.

And no he is not crated. I said to DH that since it is lightning that stresses him, if he didn't poop, pee or destroy the place last night it was unlikely to ever happen :(

Beautiful morning. Nice light and wind show last night, with some actual rain. I may have to mow grass again this summer. Took a long walk with Piper and wife, enjoying the nice breeze. Wife wants to do something outside because its so nice. Like a fool, I asked what she would like to do. Took her a while to come up with an indefinite something. I work outside all week, so the joy of playing outside in the sun kind of misses me.

Wind is rough on the bird population. Got a Robin fledgling sitting on one of my outside chairs looking for Mom. Piper walked right past it and didn't notice. Speaks highly of my "bird dog".

Had a small plumbing project yesterday that involved cutting the main water line in the house and soldering in a new section. You think I would learn. I cut the line, fit in the new copper, and couldn't get enough heat out of the torch to melt the solder. 15 miles to the nearest open hardware store for a new torch. Wife wonders why I am turning more and more to hiring jobs out.

Saw "Sound of Music" at the Mankato State University last night. Nice performance, some really fine singers. The girl playing Maria had a problem with singing last night, so they lip sinked her with the girl playing Elsa, as the two weren't on stage singing at the same time. Worked really well. If we hadn't been told, we probably wouldn't have known. The kids playing the Von Trapp family were really good.

I'm baking today and doing laundry.  A couple dozen blueberry muffins are done and just waiting for the starter to be done so I can make the cibata bread....all four loaves.  I love having the roaster oven in the basement so I can still bake even when the temps are a bit higher than I like.  Our kitchen heats up so quickly........

We have a chance of rain tomorrow and Tuesday.  Really do need it so hope that it happens.  Our grass is so crunchy even I put shoes on to go outside.....

Picked potatoes (fingerlings and Viking purples) and onions. I love the purple potatoes--they're a deep purple with some pink spots on the outside and white on the inside. Just delivered a weekly bag of veggies to one of our seniors--it's a great reason to "check in" on her and visit for a bit!  We have a tomato that is almost ripe--oh, I can't wait! It's super dry, so I may have to water later on. Need to plant the last of the fall beets later today, too.

A nice breeze and decent temps today, thank goodness!

Doug, I keep coming across Mankato State when I'm looking up speech/language therapy stuff on the web. It seems like they have a lot going on there!

Hugs for all who need them.

Hhmmmm, my purple taters are purple all the way through.  Any idea what they are, Kate?  Aside from yummy?

I guess I should go down and pick the garden again.  Incredible how well its doing with so little water, other than what I give it after business hours.  We're on water restriction and not allowed "unsupervised" watering from 8-6.  I can't imagine why anyone would WANT to water during the day with the sun at it's hottest and sucking up 1/2 the water that comes out of the hose......

I just realized I have a 25% off coupon from CVS that I need to use up today, and two from World Market - one for $10 off and one for 15% off. I guess I know how I'm going to be spending the afternoon, if I can force myself out the door and into the car since it's already close to 90 and it isn't even noon yet.

It's already too hot to take Max out, but on hot days he's conent to just lie in front of a floor fan and snooze. I think I'll just do take out for dinner tonight. Big Smile

We've been on water restrictions for 3 or 4 years now, and it is totally amazing how many people don't give a hoot as to when and how often they water.  It's especially annoying to see businesses watering in the middle of a thunderstorm...

It doesn't make sense to me to water when the sun is blazing.  Even without the $50 fine for unsupervised watering, it's dumb to do it during the day.  To me anyhow.

Karen, I wish I could've seen the Glen Campbell show.  How cool that he went ahead with it, despite the weather.  The concert we saw Thursday night was cut short by some minor lightening and a bit of rain, but nothing like the storm you described.  Anyway, I love the song "Wichita Lineman," and many of his other songs remind me of my childhood, because my mother has always loved Glen Campbell.

The annual Art Festival was this weekend here in town.  It's huge and very well respected in the arts community (odd, since this town isn't exactly an arts and culture mecca).  We usually go when it opens on Sunday since everyone else is at church.  We can do some heathen shopping without any crowds in the way.  I always see a few things that are just incredible works of art ---- but insanely expensive.  The talent people have is amazing, but I have to wonder how much they sell when some pieces are several hundred (or even thousands) of dollars each.

Not to make those of you in the heat feel bad, but it was so cold at the fair that I had a jacket on and tucked my hands inside the sleeves.  It was overcast and not even 60 degrees.

I have a TON of ironing and laundry to do today, not to mention other chores, so I best get to it!

Cathy, I am excited and stressed! Trying to figure out how to pack and whether or not to check a bag, oy. It is free to check a bag when going to central america but i am afraid of lost luggage. Then again, it is a pain trying to lug around luggage in the airport when switching planes, then theres never enough room in the overhead bins, etc etc etc.

I want to dl a few podcasts to listen to on the plane. Anyone know of some good ones? (Not thru itunes)

Any ideas on how to lure a bird out of my garage?
