I am sooooo busy! It's crunch time - last week before vacation! I have so many appointments this week - kayak class with Willa, hair cut, wax, mani/pedi (my first ever), dentist (which reminds me... Lisa, have you been keeping up with your flossing?!)

I actually checked with my dentist the last time I had a cleaning and he said if you start flossing nightly 2 weeks before your appointment, it may not be obvious to them that you haven't flossed nightly for 6 months. Useless trivia, I know.

Oh, lordy. We've actually had to have a cell phone and a set of keys removed from sewer lines at two of our restaurants recently because customers dropped them in the toilet and then flushed. Really? You thought flushing them down was going to make them come out where?

Holy Moly!  Those are pretty pricey jeans, but what the heck do I know?  I've been buying my jeans at thrift shops for so many years, I can't remember the last time I paid more than about $5 for a pair. It  just boggles my mind to think of someone paying that much for jeans.

Cathy, my son told me when he came in awhile ago that he could smell smoke in the air.  Even though the fire isn't close, I think the high winds are blowing toward us.  I really hope it isn't blowing like this in the canyon where they're working to put it out.

Gah!  When am I going to remember to stay completely off westbound I-80 on Sunday afternoons?  I think everybody and their dogs from here to San Francisco go up to the mountains on Friday and they all start the westward migration home at the same time. Fortunately I only had to go about 8 miles and there were county roads to use that would ultimately get me to where I was going.

Can you believe how bad it is? When I watch the news and see the traffic headed up on Fridays and then back down on Sundays, I always think "who does that?" I can't imagine starting and ending a trip that way - blech!!

I'm feeling sorry for myself about the cancelled vacation plans and keep trying to think of something to buy that would cheer me up. I haven't thought of anything yet but I'm working on it.

I'm sorry your friend had to cancel.  Maybe you could get your DH to go with you though it wouldn't be as much fun as with your BFF.

We actually had it planned perfectly. He'd be working the 1st 2 days she was here, then when he got off, we would leave for Tahoe and he could watch Shane. We'd come back and spend the next day at the state fair and then he'd go back to work for 2 days and then she'd fly home. She loves him and he loves her but it's just more fun when we can eat what we want, watch chick flicks and stay up late talking about nothing important. I really should try to find a place DH and I could go and take Shane for a few days though.

Julie - I actually thought about the Belize trip today. You know, when it was all being planned I just didn't think it would come together or I might've taken it more seriously. I just know you're all going to have an amazing time *sniff*

Jan - it's called cram-flossing.  Which reminds me.  I have to go to the dentist in a few weeks so I better start.

What an exhausting day.  Whew.  Just waged war with Riley at Meijer's and like an hour.  I was literally willing to buy her anything she wanted to just STOP.  I didn't but boy it was tempting.  She was just off the wall its like someone or something possessed her.

10 more minutes until bedtime.

 There's still time, Cathy! We don't leave for a week!

Cathy, I'm sorry things didn't work out with your friend, but if you're looking for somewhere to go for a few days I'd highly recommend the Hacienda Best Western in Old Town, San Diego.  The morning I was checking out there was someone in the lobby either checking in or out with a large black dog in tow, so I'm pretty sure they have dog friendly rooms.  Old Town is really close to Ocean Beach where they've turned the whole north end of the beach into an off leash area and a surprising number of restaurants allow dogs both on the patio and inside.

Amanda - I'm so sorry for your change of plans :( and thanks for offering me your place. I don't think I can swing rearranging the entire next week this late (re:Shane). As I said, had I known it was a serious plan, I'd have paid more attention.

Joyce - I LOVE old town San Diego and if we were closer, it'd be tops on my list. Since we'd have to drive to take Shane though, it's not conducive to a 2-3 day getaway. I was thinking more like Mendocino but I'm not sure how easy it'd be to get something last min. I may look into it though. Carmel is also very dog friendly and my brother lives there but unfortunately, he isn't super dog friendly
