So, my boyfriend's family have a boxer-malamute mix named Bubba. He is the nicest, sweetest, funnest, indescribable dog I've ever known. And it really makes me angry when they makes threats to get rid of him because of the annoying things he does. Bubba has a sister, named Sugar, who used to live with them as well, but they got rid of her due to "aggressive behavior" towards children and biting. They have a 7 year old boy, and he always has friends over, and Sugar would nibble a little on me I know, but that's all. It was purely play. And they got rid of her because of the little kid that she supposedly "bit" started crying profusely, and there was no bite mark, no anything. I understand that it was a little kid and he got scared and over exaggerated, but the owners, well, should I say, the owner who makes all the decisions, decided to get rid of her. She didn't witness it or anything. And now Bubba, he has very thick, large claws, and he tore up one of their couches from trying to jump on it.. And the same owner is again threatening to get rid of him because of that.
What makes me so angry about this is that, when you take on the responsibility of owning a dog, when he/she does things like that, why is it the first reaction is to just get rid of them? If your child gets into a fight with someone, or does something their not supposed to, is your first reaction, "have to get rid of them?" No. No it's not. When you take on a dog, it becomes part of your family. Not just a disposable item you can just get rid of whenever you don't like it anymore.
If your dog is doing something it's not supposed to, teach it to do the right thing. Don't just jump to the easy route and get rid of them. Because by doing that, you just made that dog's life a big confusion, and they will be stuck wondering what they did wrong. If you never teach them, they will never know. Simple as that.
Ugh, it just makes me so angry when his parents make these stupid threats and... ugh. Just had to vent a little. I just know that I would never ever get rid of any dog that lived with me. And for certain if they actually decide to get rid of Bubba, he's coming home with me, because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that dog.
Venting over.
