Thursday talking

Vivian, it's funny you suggested taking the samples outside.  I couldn't believe the difference in how the colors looked in our house compared to in the store, so I can imagine it would be altogether different outside, too!  The store had artificial, flourescent light, few windows.  In the house, we have regular light bulbs (not flourescent) and lots of windows.

The samples look different depending on where we put them -- what lamps are nearby, how close to windows they are, etc.  They also change as the light moves and changes in a room over the course of a day  As you said, different tints of color start to be more apparent.  One color we liked in the store had a weird orange-y tint in our house.

We thought about doing hardwood, since we've got in the kitchen already, and it's open to the great room and dining area.  But, the way Ruby does zoomies, she'd be like a deer on ice.  Also, with our open floor plan and vaulted ceilings, there's already a problem with "echo" and sound traveling, so we decided to do carpet again to help reduce that.  The colors we're considering have that flecked/speckled appearance you described, Cathy, so that will help.  Bottom line:  our current carpet is a VERY light grey, so anything will be an improvement!

I guess others are getting the "oops" msg too and that's why no one has been posting.

Thanks for letting us know -- I'll ask Admin to investigate.  I haven't had a problem, but I wasn't on this morning.  Did the oops happen in the AM?  or mid day?  Or any particular time?

One of my ex-bf's called today to say his vet called him b/c someone wants to put down a seemingly healthy 5-6 yr old Dobe b/c they got a new puppy and the dog and puppy don't get along.  They called him b/c (thanks to me) he's owned a number of rescued Dobes.  I gave him some tips on sleuthing out some info.  I'm sure the dog won't get put down if he can find a place for it if our mutual Rescue cannot.

Anyway, off to watch my friend's friend perform in Boston.  I suck, b/c I don't like listening to live music very much unless I already know and enjoy the artist.  I'm only doing this b/c she's sad that her BF went back on the road yesterday and she won't see him for a few weeks.

    PS- whereza chocolate?  NEEED some!

We brought 3 samples home too and it really helped. I remember one sample looking beige in the store but having a very gray hue to it at home. We did the same with the tile we laid and we even did it with the sectional fabric. That was really important because I wanted a wine-ish colored fabric and one of the samples looked very orangey in natural light. omg - I'd have hated having a huge sectional in that color. Ick!

No, I haven't done anything toward getting the tile yet, Cathy.  With DH starting his new position and busy at work, I either forget or put off setting up times to meet someone for estimates.  I do have some sample tiles I've been moving around now and then. lol  We have another project on the back burner but haven't made any progress on that either.  We're pitiful. lol  We brought carpet samples home when we had this carpet installed and put dog hair on the samples to see how much it showed. :)

I love the salad and breadsticks at Olive Garden.  I wish we were going there tonight.

Hot and steamy describes our weather here.  We got three inches of rain yesterday and it's amazing how fast the grass greened up and the plants burst out with new growth.  It's just a shame we couldn't send rain to places that are so dry.

I got the oops message once this morning sometime between 7:30 and 8 am.  I didn't have any trouble later in the day.

Hot here too, but thank doG not steamy.  Tracy, if you were to decide to go with hardwood, you could always get a huge, almost room sized area rug.  The big ones are too heavy for the dogs to slide them around much and you wouldn't have to leave very much wood exposed along the sides. I was overjoyed when I found a carpet that didn't show the dog hair (it's the color of coffee with a LOT of creamer and little flecks) but unfortunately it does show muddy paw prints, which I didn't discover until the first rain of the season - about 7 months after carpet installation. Tongue Tied

I'm sorry to hear you guys are all suffering the high heat this week :( Especially without power. Yikes. I also hope that the fire near you gets under control soon Cathy.

I'm off to post up photos from my Mackinac bridge trip. That was way too cool and I'm still smiling :)
