Heat wave saturday

    Heat wave saturday

This should be the last day of the heat wave. Yay. Tomorrow we are supposed to be beack to normal, 80s or so. That will be so nice. Some rain would be even nicer! I can't wait to turn my ac off! I have a bday party to go to today then I have a friend coming to visit for the remainder of the weekend which means I should do some cleaning, particularly in the guest room. I wonder if she will bring a dog and if so, which one. She is the friend that adopted one of my fosters. We thought she was going to be lab sized, she was lab mixed with something. Turns out she never grew up, just out! We now call her a pygmy lab as she looks exactly like a black lab but has the legs of a cocker spaniel. It is too funny looking. I keep waiting for her to flop over and fake death like those goats do when they are startled.

Lol about the Pygmy lab :)

No breaking the heat for us yet, I think Monday is in the 90's and Tuesday is the real break

Went out kayaking already, the lake is soooo low. Picked up fresh bagels, had a nice egg sandwich =yum. Now I'm chilling and watching Wimbledon. I am no small woman but i wouldn't sign up for a match with Serena lol I almost feel bad for the opponent. Now if I just had some clotted cream and strawberries.

I will need to come up with something for the furry monster to do or he'll drive me nuts. It's already too got outside to really burn energy

DH is taking the first load of clothes and assorted closet stuff to Goodwill.  It's incredible the amount of stuff we seem to store away and never use.  Next are my closets and dresser drawers.  DH is usually so resistant to this process but today he was right in there with me, tossing and said it felt very liberating.  You have no idea how happy that made me.

Oh, please tell me how you got him to buy in. My DH hates to part with anything. I asked him why recently and he said cause he once got rid of something and then needed it. Once? Really? We have charities that do curbside pickup regularly and I always have a bag or two ready to go. I love to purge. They're coming next week and I have 4 bags ready to go. I managed to wrestle a few outdated computer programs (big, original boxes) from DH, so I was thrilled with that.

We're heating up the next few days and will be in triple digits most of next week. We've really been lucky but I knew it wouldn't last forever.

I have training with Shane at 11:30 and hopefully it won't be too hot. Tomorrow I have a meeting back out there at 2 PM and by that time it's sure to be pretty nasty but they've rescheduled the meeting twice now, so I'm sure they won't want to do it again.

I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Cathy, I have no idea why he decided to part with the various clothes, shoes and assorted stuff that he's never wanted to part with in the past.  It's always been a struggle for him and his entire family is the same way.  Maybe he finally realized that if he didn't even know he had it maybe he didn't need to hang on to it.  His parents grew up in the depression and that may have contributed to their need to hoard although mine grew up in the same era and weren't hoarders.  Whatever the reason, I'm not questioning DH's new attitude even if it only lasts through today. :)

Julie, from yesterday and your comment about the early settlers not wearing as many clothes as we do these days.  People back then wore more clothes and mostly long sleeves for women and men, year round. They didn't usually own separate clothes for summer and winter. The women wore bustles and long dresses with full length underwear, even the settlers.  Can you imagine doing the manual labor they did, dressed like that?  The Witte museum has a new exhibit about early ranch and farm life in Texas and seeing what they wore was mind boggling.

Karen, I hope you're feeling better physically and mentally.  I hope all the sick dogs are better too.

I had the most awful dream about Belle attacking Gabby and seriously injuring her.  In my dream I took Gabby in to the vet for treatment and took Belle in to be put to sleep.  When I left the vet's I realized I'd taken Rex in instead of Belle.  It was a horrible dream and I hope writing it down will purge it from my mind.

ETA for typos and I'm sure I missed a few.

Oh my Jackie - that is an awful dream. Makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Because of some of the fights I saw Sassy and Buffy have, I feel like I have PTSD about dog fights. When one broke out in our training class, I felt an instant panic attack while everyone else was really calm about it :(. I know you'll be giving all your dogs some extra hugs today.

DH's mom is a super hoarder and that's why we'd been talking about it recently. He doesn't want to be like that but still hates to let go of anything. He has a pair of nice cowboy boots that I've been trying to give away for years. He's never worn them in the 15 yrs I've known him but still thinks he should hang on to them. I could go on and on but it'd just put me in a grumpy mood :)

Awesome to purge stuff.  I have a storage unit I need to go through but there's so much stuff I need space to take it out and sort it.  It would be easiest if I had a new place so I could just transport the stuff I want and then ditch the stuff I don't.  But I suppose for moving purposes I ought to purge now.  My sister will be here in a couple of weeks and she will give me grief if she sees my storage unit the way it is now. lol

We went from weekly to bi-weekly paychecks this month. What a serious PITA when you remember "oh yeah, I gotta make this last for another week!"  *sigh*  It would be nice to get my inheritance money already.

Jackie, that's an awful dream.  Have you had to fire anyone at work lately?  Sometimes the dogs' personalities or the roles they play can mimic those of people in our waking lives, so the dogs might be symbols for people you know.

Why is it when someone else forgets to do something - or deliberately avoids making it a priority - that I should have to pick up their slack and resolve the problem?  I didn't create it.  You know two times a day that you are running out of dog food.  You wait until the very last meal to ask me to go pick it up?  See above - I don't have the money for your dog food and pill pockets.  Sorry you're in a hurry now to go somewhere, but I didn't make this problem.  Figure it out. grrr

My guess is because he's starting a new position - new starts often inspire people to 'clean house' in various ways!

    Yikes re the dream.

I am feeling better thank you - it was better by Wednesday although not 100% - I am sure it is heat/AC related - added to my normal allergies etc. Because of the constant high temps and humidity we are on ozone alerts too

I am going to have some lunch and go downtown to the new Natural Science museum - well it has a new wing that is a giant globe. I've heard wonderful things and it should be nice and cool. I am refusing to do any work at least one day each weekend and today is that day. Of course I've done laundry and tidied things up and done a few things in the yard but no serious stuff!

Here's a link to the museum site - check it out just to see the globe

Wow Karen, that looks very cool. In fact the whole museum looks very cool. I wish we had more stuff like that here. It's a big city and the capitol but lacks so much in terms of art and culture :(.

DH is home and tired and grouchy from a grueling shift. I feel for him but I'm glad Shane and I have training to go to.

He did perk up when he was telling me about an alarm call they got at 1:30 AM last night at a place called The Dive Bar. It's a place downtown that has a huge aquarium and girls swimming around dressed like mermaids. He tried to tell me "the other guys" were getting all excited about all the drunk women oogling them. Yeah, I'm sure DH didn't enjoy that one bit ;).

Jackie, when I mentioned the less clothes thing I was actually referring to the native americans, not the settlers. Sorry, I was rambling so that probably didn't come out like I wanted it to lol. That is why I wouldn't have made a good settler. Who could deal with these temps and wear all those clothes? The indians hadt the right idea ;p

Interesting interperation and as a matter of fact we are going to have to fire someone at work.  Someone who has been there a long time and is well liked.  This probably won't happen for a few months but it all came to a head yesterday and is a very traumatic decision for us.

Very insightful of you Karen about the reason DH is willingly getting things cleaned out and organized.  You should do that sort of thing for a living. lol  This job change is certainly not the first one he's had over the years but it's probably the one that has meant the most to him emotionally.

Paige, I have a sign above my desk.  "a lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part".

Cathy, I can imagine how upsetting it is to witness even a mild dog fight after the years of emotional trauma you endured with Buffy and Sassy.  I did give all the dogs a lot of extra loving this morning.

Karen, enjoy the new wing of the museum.  It looks awesome. :)

I wish it would RAIN already.  I even put laundry out thinking that would invite it, AND washed the darned car.  I'm doing MY part!  LOL.

Not as miserably hot, only around 90, but the humidity has got be about 2 zillion percent.  When I went out to feed the skeeters I was absolutely dripping.  And now, I've gotta grate some zuchinni because sinceThursday when it was still way too small to pick it's got HUGE.  Some is fine for the table, but some is just way too big so will freeze it for zuchinni bread.  Harvested a bunch of herbs too that I'll chop to dry and dug some new taters got the first of my sugar snap peas and green beans.....I'm a happy camper.  Too bad the guys think they need meat with a meal like that!

I didn't realize that the bday party would be outside on a 100 degree day.............

Cathy, you've put me to shame telling us about how clean your car is.  Mine is absolutely filthy both inside and out.  Dust and bird droppings.  Yuck. When you have to use the window squirt thingy and run the wipers to clean the dust off the windshield, it's time to head for the car wash but for some reason I keep putting it off.

It's only noon and already it's almost 90, so I'm sure will be over 100 before the day is over. I really should go outside and scoop poop before it gets so hot it starts to melt. Sad If it was breezy, they'd all harden right up.

Glenda, your garden haul sounds great!

If anyone in the northeast saw the white glow in the sky today (similar to the one Doug was speaking of last week), don't worry. It was just me taking my first swim of the year ;-) The water is still quite cool and it felt great!

I know nothing about this clean car thing you speak of...

I think a lot of people like to keep stuff because it helps preserve personal history and memory. I know I have a really hard time getting rid of stuff. I worked with a woman who got rid of everything she owned (everything) any time she moved (which was every few years), with the exception of a just few clothes and some of her journals. Everything else went. She had no history that moved forward with her except what she had written in the journals she kept. She liked to start with a clean slate. I just never understood that. Of course, she never understood why I kept all the little notes kids wrote to me, etc. Different perspectives, that's all, I guess.

The heat is supposed to break tonight and we're going to be in the 70s next week!! Yeah!!

OK, off to cook some beets. Tomorrow, it's rhubarb pie baking day.
