How does a parent deal with that?

I don't know how anyone could, not really anyway.  Beyond heartbreaking.

Marty, sometimes I think the whole world is going nuts.  It was on the news last night that in Stockton (a little bit south of us) an 84 year old woman was beaten, sexually assaulted and then murdered - and this was their 35th. homicide of the year.  The year is only half over.  That's something like one every 5 days. A lot of the citizens are driving to Lodi or other places to shop and I can't say I blame them.

Our mornings and nights have been gloriously cool but next week we're supposed to be back up in triple digits. Indifferent There's not much cooling down at night when the daytime temps reach 102.

I'd heard about that too Joyce. So sick!! Speaking of sick, I'm guessing that the 17 y.o. suffers from mental illness as well. Very sad.

Well, I took Shane for a walk, went to Walgreens and then got my knee x-ray done and was back home by 9. Not bad eh? I'm heading outside to wash my car while it's still cool and then I have a lot of cleaning to do. Shane is konked out and I'm tempted to join him, so must keep moving....

Omg marty, that is terrible! I can't imagine the horror that family is going through.

Lisa, the heat/ ac thing is bothering my head too. I hope your headache goes away soon. I plan my vacations that far in advance too. You have to save so what other option is there?

Low 90s with rain! That would be awesome.

My UP trip got postponed. I am kind of bummed. That trip was getting me out of meeting hell day (every 3rd monday we have back to back internal staff mtgs which go all day)! Oh well.

Can anyone who uses photobucket tell me why I keep getting huge partial pictures instead of smaller complete ones when I post on this forum? It's even got my son stumped and he's my go-to techie.I've resized them multiple times but they're never right. When he does it from his Mac they turn out fine.

When you are adding the photo to the forum, in the edit screen, click on the actual photo and grab the box in the lower right corner. Hold shift (this will keep it from distorting) and drag to make it smaller. It's kind of hard to explain.

If I don't check in tomorrow, I have died of heat exhaustion on my way home from work. Just fyi ;p

Rain? What is this rain you speak of? I think that word has been wiped from the MI dictionary and replaced with "dust bowl"

Kind of makes you wish for a little of the snow in Rupert's pic, eh?

I know exactly what you mean about the dust bowl Julie.  Here too.  I can say the those wet drops are gone now.  Shoulda kept my mouth shut :)  If we get any relief this weekend I will be so happy and then I will send some you way.

Gotta run, hope everybuddy has a great weekend.....

Tina - I am not kidding, if you don't have air, you can come spend the night with us.  I know we aren't even close but geesh.  I am sure I could find a beagle to snuggle with you.  Seriously though, take it easy and hang in the basement.  Charlie won't walk past the driveway even keeping him on the grass - he just looks at me and says "too hot momma".  Be careful riding home Julie!

Doc says I am A OK and good to go.  He agreed it is probably the weather making my head throb.  All other vitals and "the girls" were checked out so I am set for another year!

Went to Costco and they had those spiral lightbulbs they are making us all buy now for less than $1 for a set of 4 (with instant rebate from our Detroit Edison).  I am not a fan but they will work for the outside and basement.

I'm late checking in today.  Busy at work, late getting in due to houseguests goofing up my normal morning routine, and feeling a bit under the weather.  Hopefully just overtired and sleeping in tomorrow will help; I'm crossing fingers I am not getting sick.

DH is super sick ---- he woke up in the middle of the night Tuesday with what he said was "the worst sore throat in his life."  After laying relatively low on the holiday, he dragged himself to work yesterday but could hardly swallow.  Strep test was negative -- doctor said allergies."  What?  He's nearly choking trying to breathe and talk due to swollen glands and feels like he's swallowing razor blades, and it's allergies?  I don't know -- DH doesn't have seasonal allergies.  I've had them all my life, and the sore throat is more of a reasonably tolerable burning sensation, not what he's describing.  Non-contagious allergies would be  nice, since I don't want to catch it, and neither do his sister and brother-in-law who are staying with us this week.

I feel like a broken record, but all of you in the hot, humid weather have my sincere sympathy.  I remember that miserable kind of weather, and to deal with no A/C is nearly unbearable, nevermind with no electricity or fans!  I hope there is relief for all of you soon.  It's no fun for people OR pets.

On a lighter note, I couldn't let Karen's post from yesterday go, so I had an ice cream sundae for lunch.  My coworker and I walked to Baskin Robbins and used a 2-for-1 coupon.  Yes

I forgot to say that stories like the ones Marty and Joyce posted about are just horrible.  It seems like those types of things are more and more common.  We just had a story in a very small town nearby of a man who killed his wife and kids, then himself.  I think it's the 3rd or 4th story like that in the past 2 or 3 months here.  I don't understand the senseless acts like these --- is it really that more people suffer from a severe mental illness, or is it that more people react to bad things happening in their lives with violent rampages against others, even loved ones?  I know the human race has always been capable of ugly, violent actions, but like Marty said, sometimes I wonder what the world is coming to.  Sad

Tracy, I hope your hubby starts to feel better soon and that you don't get his "allergies".  That kind of sore throat is absolute misery. :(

We're off to date night in a little bit.  We go early because we avoid the crowds and take advantage of happy hour.  :)

The no ac and no power thing makes me think about what it must have been like when the first settlers got here, or the native americans for that matter, but they wore a lot less clothes so that must have helped right? :) anyhow, we have to admit we are spoiled beyond belief. I would not have made a good american settler ;p

The dogs are way too hyper from being in the ac all day so I took them out and threw the frisbee around. Lily was the first to quit and bee line for the kiddie pool with abbie right behind her. I think that is a first, the dogs quitting before me. I added extra mental exercise by making them sit stay while i collected all the discs in between each session (i play with 10 discs at a time so there is a constant stream of frisbees to catch). The sit stay was tough! That is prob what made lily quit lol she says, this obed stuff is for the birds, I am going swimming ;p now they will hopefully be chill so i can watch todays tour de france stage!

I have never heard of allergies causing such a sore throat. Do you have him sucking on something to soothe the pain?

    Have fun for date night!
    • Gold Top Dog
Seems strange to me that allergies would cause that severe of a sore throat. Sounds a little like they blew him off :(. I hope he feels better soon. Summer colds are the worst.

Julie - do you ooh and ahh at the scenery in the tour de france? I'm in awe of the beauty they show. Nothing like the Paris I visited.

I just got an email with the results of my knee x-rays and all looks just fine. Part of me thinks woohoo, then I'm going to go crazy working out regardless of the achiness but the P.A. said the x-ray wouldn't show anything, so I guess I can't celebrate yet.

Not only did I get the house cleaned but I detailed my car, including sucking all of Shane's hair out of every crevice and putting that shiny stuff on the tires. I love when my car looks like the day I bought it, even if it won't last.
