Jackie, I'm so sorry about your mentor and friend.  How is Twister today?

Kate..didnt get a chance to say Happy first day on the Big Girl Job Wink

Sorry for those that dont feel well.

Its very hot here like most of the south, we were threatened with some rain yesterday...didnt happen.  No fireworks this year in NWA fine is 500.00.   I wish I lived closer to Lisa so I could dog sit Charlie...I love me some lasagna :)

I am not sure that a latte was the right thing to do in order to cool down.................actually I think it was WRONG as I wipe the beads of sweat off my brow

    • Gold Top Dog

Sweat cools you down as it evaporates. lol

Twister is fine.  I didn't drop him off this morning at the vets.  They are short handed this week and I didn't want him sitting in a kennel all day worried and nervous.  I may have imagined the "lump" and he's not scooting any more.  I made an appointment for him for next week just to make sure.

    Thanks for the hugs everyone.

Ginger, wish I could send you some rain if we got any extra.  Arkansas is in as bad a shape as we were last year. :(

    • Gold Top Dog

((hugs)) and Rupey nuzzles for Jackie.

    Go Lisa! Yes

    Have fun, Sharon!

Tomorrow will be fun, but hot. Supposed to be a heat index of over 100. We're going to the parade then over to my aunt's for a picnic. They have an amazing yard - it's like a resort, with its own swimming pond. Then if the kids are behaving we might go to the fireworks.

Still busy as a bee here. Back to work. Confused

    Also, it makes you smelly.

I think I'm staying home for the rest of the day, though I would like to go over to get some food at the fair for dinner. Either I just was mentally with work because I was ready for the holiday, or I did bash my brain in this morning. For now, Luke, Callie and I are lounging around, watching the rebroadcast of the gymnastics trials.

LOL, true Jen.  I like to sweat but don't like to smell other people's sweat.   Glad you're taking it easy the rest of the day.  Head knocks can be serious but you know that.

Thanks Jano.  Those Rupey nuzzles work magic. Have fun tomorrow.

I am so ready to go home.  I've been a weepy mess all day.  I know it might sound strange but I burst out crying when I found out one of the Decorah eaglets was electrocuted on a power pole.  When I found out Andy Griffith died you''d have thought he was a close friend of mine the way it hit me.  I grew up watching him and loved anything he was in.  I don't usually get weepy over actors or others I don't know personally so I guess it's just my frame of mind today.

I think I'll go find some jokes to read and cheer myself up.  I haven't gotten much accomplished at work today.

I know it. I probably had a concussion once before, caused by my dog, and the neighbor across the street's dog, who happens to have just moved out. They always left dogs out in the fence, and the dogs would fence fight any passing dog who would go at it with them. I rode a bike with my dog at the time, and we went past their fence. I thought the dogs weren't  in it, and I may have even checked just before we went out. Anyway, we went past their fence, their dogs went after mine, and mine would always be good for responding. She took me down, and I smacked my head. I was riding on the sidewalk, and luckily, I actually hit my head on the grass and not the pavement. That was by a matter of inches. I was actually laying there for a bit, I have no idea how long though.  I know I heard several cars go by, and I kept hoping someone would stop so I could at least send them to get someone from my house to help me. Nobody did stop, and I eventually picked myself and the bike up and made it home. I never rode with her around the neighborhood again. Also, bike helmets are important!

This happens to be the neighbor who just left the neighborhood. He was a complete tool. Interestingly, Animal Control was out at his house the other day just before they moved.

Hugs for you Jackie. Some days, it seems it's just that kind of day. I hadn't heard about the eaglet--that is so sad.

Glenda, I picked my first potato today. I was so excited--I know, cheap thrills :-) I think it was in the Yukon gold section, but I'm not sure. The tags I put out all faded, so I need to check my planting chart. I think some of my garlic is almost ready to harvest, too, so I figured out my drying rack set up. And, I'm having fresh beets for supper. Yumm.

We were without all computer systems (including email, online registration, anything web-based, etc) at work for 2 days, plus additional outages today. What a nightmare--it makes it impossible to teach our online classes, etc. Fingers crossed everything is really working this time. This is why I keep a paper calendar (old school). I am sure the administrators were freaking out when they couldn't synch their calendars, etc.

OK, on to a bit more yard work and then perhaps a nice cold beer.

Jackie, sorry about your friend. :(

Tina, power outages are the very reason I refuse to get one of those new "on demand" super efficient water heaters.  They run on electricity.  If there's an extended outage, two things I need to work are the hot water and the stove top. The basic necessities to cope with a power outage are showers and coffee.

The latest weather report for this neck of the woods said mid to high 90s and then a good chance of triple digits for the weekend.  Not complaining. Smile

Have a great 4th. of July everyone!  I'm going down to a neighbor's to watch from her driveway and we're going to finish off the chocolate wine.

(((Jackie))) - I was very sad about the eagle and about Andy passing away. I too grew up watching many shows he was in.

My hair looks fabulous! Usually I'm just glad to get it over with but today I left feeling really purty. Big Smile

My former boss ruined my good mood though when I got back. He called to tell me he'd just picked up his rescue BC from 3 weeks at boot camp. I'd had a hard time understanding why he wasn't training her himself since he's retired but whatever. He went on about how well she was doing and how they sent him home with a prong AND shock collar for her. He said with just the slightest tug on the prong collar, she walks really nice. I'd met her and she seemed like she already walked nice. The shock collar is for letting her off leash "so she doesn't chase off after a deer". Besides being super disappointed that he'd use either of those things, I can't help but think what a racket it is for a boot camp that costs a fortune and culminates with that. Super Angry

some idiot dog trainer was popular in our neighborhood a few years back - called herself the 'dog nazi' - she put a prong and e-collar on every dog/puppy it was so ridiculous. One day she asked for B and I to walk past a dog she was working with and not knowing any better I obliged. B picked up on her right away and you could see he was leery of her. She asked him to sit and he just looked at her and turned his back. To make a long story shorter she wound up trying to push him into a sit and he gave me this pleading look. I laid into her right then and there saying a) she had no right to put her hands on my dog, b) she's lucky he isn't aggressive, c) no 'professional' would put their hands on a dog without knowing their health history (hips, knees, etc.) and no trainer worth her weight in salt would slap an ecollar and prong on a 10lb mini-schnoodle pup. The owner of the pup called me and was all apologetic, I told her I was MY dog's advocated and she ought to be her pup's advocate. Angry

We have a ton of thunder but no drops :( Everything is so parched due to the heat and lack of rain, hoping we get something out of it. Plus B is panting and anxious so at least getting some rain would feel less disturbing

Jackie I am so sorry - sometimes having an emotional day can be very cathartic - I hope you have a nice day tomorrow

Cathy and Karen, those trainer stories make me mad and sad for the dogs involved.  Good for you, Karen.  I've scrapped all the chore type stuff for tomorrow and we're going to Sea World. Big Smile We haven't been in a few years and we both love going.  I got to do the Beluga whale experience once and it was incredible to be in the water with those beautiful animals.  I'm always torn about how I feel about the captive marine mammals but for the most part I enjoy every exhibit and animal.

Is there a Sea World in Texas? I had no idea but yay for you. I love Sea World too. I've only been once when I visited my friend in Florida and I had tears in my eyes most of the time. Having read "Don't Shoot the Dog", I have an even greater appreciation for the training and discipline the mammals go through. Have fun Jackie. You deserve it.

Sea World San Antonio opened in 1988.  We had season tickets the first year and went almost every weekend. :)  My first visit to Sea World was to the one in San Diego.  I fell in love immediately. :)
