    Cell phone question

I keep getting texts from unknown numbers, apparently in response to something I sent.  I am familiar with the subject matter, but have no idea who they are coming from.   I am confuzzled!

About 2 months ago this happened to me and you know what? Every time I opened the text it Charged me $9.95! I'd call your provider and see if any strange charges show up. :(

Yup, I agree--I'd definitely notify your cell provider. Could be spam texts. I've gotten several in recent months. They may be able to block them for you (without a charge). You can also report spam texts to the FCC (esp. if your number is on the do not call list.)

No extra charges here...it's already exhorbitant...lol!  My daughter just said she gets them too, and it's an iphone group glitch.  I questioned her, and she said some people send out group messages and can cause this.  I think my DIL does this, and come to think of it, it didn't start happening until she got a new phone.

It's not spam...it is a reply to something I am familiar with.

My sisters both send out group texts and then when anyone responds I get the response too. Tell the DIL that this is happening and to remove you from group texts

I don't text. A phone is for talking ( I am getting inflexible and irritable in my old age, and the cell phone is a high tech leash).

    Oh, sorry. I misunderstood.

Doug I'm with you  on that one!  My cell will only be used in an emergency period. I hate them with a passion!

It might be possible that someone you know is using a text program on an iPod or something, not from an actual cell phone.

It's a setting in the sender of the group message's phone. My mom once called Amanda, to tell her she'd been texting the wrong number. Had to fix the setting, to stop it. I actually took my phone to Verizon, and they fixedi t, because I don't have a clue!

I have texting blocked on hubbies phone cause no matter how many times I tell SD not to text her Dad she will, so I elimated the problem. Angry

I dont text, I also am of the "phones are for voice conversation"  group.

I don't think my cell phone has texting capabilities, though DGS insists that it does and I believe he even did it once to prove it. Big Smile My phone stays off unless I need to make a call.  I don't want my purse ringing and some fool asking "Where are you? What are you doing?" If I wanted anyone to know where I am or what I'm doing, I would have given them that information before I left the house.

Hey Doug, Vivian, Joyce & Ginger --- want to start a club?  I'd definitely meet the membership qualifications.  I finally got a cell phone a couple months ago.  It's a flip phone that probably texts, but I have no idea.  It remains off, in my purse, there if I have an emergency.  I'll get home later than expected from something, and DH will say, "Why didn't you call to let me know?"  And I'll say, "Oh yeah -- I forgot I had a phone!"  He's a committed iPhone user, so he doesn't understand my dark ages behavior.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I'm always glad to see I'm not alone in my ancient ways!
