    Monday moaning

    Seriously?  It's Monday already?  Wah!

If you guys can spare some good thots for Sis and my nephew, and even his wife.  Don't know if she's not dealing well with the situation or what, but, I know that Sis can't continue to take care of three children AND their mother.  These are active kids, Sis is in her 60's and has MS and there is NO reason that she should have to do everything while their mom sits on her fanny and texts or posts on facebook about how blue she is.  HER parents refuse to come back...they are in their 70's and Saturday she left them with 3 kids and went off picking strawberries for the morning.  As I say, maybe she is just totally stressed and simply doesn't have what it takes to deal with the tough stuff of life, but whatever, she's impacting other people in a really negative way, including those little ones.

We are supposed to get the 90's temps this week and I'm really dreading it.  I so enjoy those temperent days when the nights are chilly enough to need a blanket.  Today is supposed to be sunny and mid 70's but right now, doesn't look like we're going to get the sunny.  Guess we'll see later.

Wishing everyone a good day and a great week!

That sounds like a really rough situation glenda.

We are in for a 90s week too. I wish it would be paired with lots of rain. My yard is parched.

I forgot to get coffee creamer this weekend. I don't do black coffee either. I really need it today too!

My back pain was all but gone last week and last night it came back with a vengeance. It is so weird. Maybe I will go get that ultra sound the doc ordered after all.

Neiko is a goof ball. Just fyi ;p

I am ticked this morning; my neighbor's loose cat took a crap near my bird feeder and of course covered it just enough so I didn't see it when I went to fill said feeder and stepped in it in my work shoes. I couldn't get it cleaned off and had to change shoes, which all made me late for work. #&$!%#

UGH Tina!!!!!!!!!!! I am ready to put a post on our community board regarding wandering cats - I totally don't get why its presumed OK for your cat to be in my yard killing birds but my dog isn't allowed to wander and crap in your yard.

Had a very nice weekend and as predicted the weather has shifted, very humid and grayish today with 90's all week.

Bugsy had another late play with his pittie friend and wound up with the runs today - I presume its from allergies. The other culprit may be that the person who came by yesterday gave him treats and I don't know what treats they were so they could have been egg or chicken I suppose. Usually though that results in extreme and instant dandruff and hives which we didn't have thus me leaning towards the late play. So I'll rest him today and from here on out make sure if he has a late play to wipe him down or something.

That's about all - one of the baby bunnies was in range today fortunately someone was already preoccupied with squirrels

My fig tree is HUGE and full of figs - won't be long until harvest LOL

Think I finally made some progress with DH the world's worst landscaper, fingers crossed

Yum, I love figs !!  My favorite is caramelized onions, goat cheese and fig pizza  . . . I might just have to make one tonight !!

Yuck Tina.  Speaking of cats, tragedy averted this morning at the shop.  Tiny kitten was in our shop.  Ruger and Twister were hot on it's trail.  Luckily I caught it before Ruger.  I called AC but they're closed today.  The dispatcher for public works said he'll try and have someone pick it up, otherwise I'll keep it till tomorrow.  It's in Twister's crate right now.  Kitty doesn't know how lucky it is that Ruger didn't catch it.

Deb, that pizza sounds yummy even though I'm not that crazy for figs.

Some areas around us got some rain last night but we only had three raindrops.  We might get a shower or two mid week according to the weather people.  They often tell us that just to keep our hopes up.

We had heavy storms today.I will take the rain any way it comesBig SmileI can so relate to cat poop troubles. The retired dairy farmers across my road feed a whole slew of unspeuterd cats which frequently come over for mice in my woods.Noel rolled in a fresh pile just the other day.Turbo blew his third meet and greet yesterday.I'm giving up now. He's just too fearfull to accept a new packmate.I miss my labCryingshe loved everything and everyone.I don't think I've ever had a fresh fig. I wonder if they're better than dried.

Tena, I'm glad you got some rain even if it was via storms.  Sorry about Turbo not working out for you but good that you are an experienced dog owner who recognizes when a dog isn't the right fit.  You'll find the right dog in time or the right dog will find you. :)

Tena I am sorry that Turbo didn't work out but glad you realized it before rather than later. i am sure he'll find a nice home

Fresh figs are scrumtious - much less sweet than dried and as Deb pointed out they go well with savory foods. I have made arugula salad with fresh figs and a balsamic vinegar dressing = very nice

I have umpteen things going on all at once. My brain feels sore.

No bueno on either count.  I can't do coffee without creamer - I started keeping some non-perishable ones in my desk, but even that isn't the same.  NEED my coconut coffee-mate.  Sorry you're still in pain with your back.  I've got the same stiffness back that kept me from going to work on Thurs, but it's not as bad b/c my hands aren't numb.  It's just that everything is cracking when I stretch a little, and I feel like someone has my ribcage in a barrel with straps that are too tight.  Makes no sense, but that's how it feels.

Meanwhile, I've recommitted to exercise and am determined to be back to HS weight by Christmas. A friend's husband took some pics of me at an event we hosted a couple weeks ago and it drove the point home.

I'm not a huge fan of figs either but that pizza sounds yummy!!

I am swamped again today and since we have our Board mtg tomorrow, I feel extra pressure to get stuff done. My boss is here today too, so that just adds to the chaos.

It looks like we've finally got my car sold. We've only tried halfheartedly to sell it for the last 6 months and finally dropped the price enough that we got some bites. A young family came to look at it yesterday and didn't even haggle over the price. They want their mechanic to inspect it today though, so DH has to take it in at 1. I can't imagine it won't pass with flying colors.

The family buying the car had 2 young daughters and they loved Shane and he was a perfect gentleman with them. He's so calm and loving, so I know he'd be perfect for therapy work, especially with children.

HS Weight. ha. I will never ever get back to HS weight. I hardly ate anything during my HS years and was a total toothpick. Those days are loooonggggg gone lol I envy those that can do it though. How do you plan to go about it? exercise mostly?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yep, I'm with Julie.  I lost something like 40 lbs between my Junior and Senior years, so pre-wl I was rather porky, post wl, waaaayy too skinny.  I hate my saddlebags and those aren't going away no matter what I do, unless it's lippo, and I'm not fond of the short waist, but, again, without removing ribs, that isn't gonna change either.

I'm a size 8 without a lot of work to stay there, so not too bad for an old broad.

ETA:  avoiding any exercise that requires sweating....I rarely do, so that means I just flat overheat like an old car!

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL, HS weight????  hmmmm I was just thinking about that last week.  I am only  uhhhummm ** lbs off that now.   I am short and since MP at age 50 I have gained about 5 lbs per year.  Not happy about that but eating less, working in the garden for exercise is not doing a thing to help.  I have always been active even with the Fibro I refuse to let it stop me but....cant seem to loose the old lady weight :)

Cathy sounds like Shane is settling in so very well. I am so happy for all of you :) especially for Shane that he has such a loving happy home.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Karen, if we lived closer, DH would sneak into your yard and raid your fig tree!  Wink  He loves to cook with fresh & dried figs and has used them in salads like you described, appetizers, and my favorite -- a fig/plum sauce that he makes with a pork loin that is delicious!  We've never looked into whether a fig tree would grow in our climate.  Might have to research that.

Speaking of growing things, I limited myself to only 3 new hostas at the specialty nursery on Saturday.  I got one medium size (12-18 inches) called Purple Glory which has dark green leaves, with purple leaf stalks.  I got a giant one (it'll get to 3 feet or so) called Winter Snow -- it has chartreuese leaves with cream/white streaking and edges.  And, just because the name cracked me up, I got a dwarf one called Popo.  It'll only be 3-6 inches wide, with bluish-green leaves.  If I could, I'd buy one of every variety -- it's hard to choose only a few each season!

Glenda, I'm sorry the situation with your sister and her extended family is so complicated and stressful for everyone.  I hope things improve soon.

Cathy, I'm glad Shane did so well with the children.  Now that school is out, we're hoping to work with our neighbors and their kids with Ruby so she can do more than visit with them through the fence.  I don't think she'll ever be calm like Shane sounds (or like Tonka was), but we'll do our best.  She loves seeing them and takes treats from them through the fence, so that's a good start.

The weekend went too fast.  We had two great days weather-wise.  It was even a bit too hot for me on Saturday, but it sure was nice to be outside a lot.  We had dinner with Leslie (tashakota) and her husband Saturday night at a place with an outdoor patio.  A great time, although it got a bit chilly and they lit up the firepit!
