    New unexpected addition NDR

There was a litter of kitties at the barn that were in need of homes. I took one first chance I got, it just felt like it was ment to be. He's such a sweet and quiet boy. It's only been 2 days and I'm already in love. Atticus and him are getting along well so far, they're slowly starting to like each other more and more each day. I couldn't leave him there since he slept under everyone's car tires. I didn't want anymore kitties getting run over. He'll eventually be an indoor-out door cat once he's old enough but for now he's content hanging out inside with everyone.

I wasn't really planning on getting him since I have a guinea pig on the way who I'll be picking up from the breeder in July. I'm a little nervous and starting to worry about managing my time between everyone (Atticus, Carson and the guinea pig) but I'll find a way! I've got my guinea pigs c&c cage all set up and ready but now I'll need to make a top for it so Carson wont hop in.

Here's my new little boy Carson

At the vet hanging out with my mom at the reception desk. He sat there like a statue begging for attention. He came home with a clean bill of health!

Cute boy! Is it written in stone about him going outside?

Thank you! I know its a very controversial topic, but most likely yes. All of the cats I have had growing up have been indoor-outdoor and have lived long healthy lives (15+years each). They don't go far and are usually just out on our back deck basking in the sun. We call their names at night and they always return. We don't let them out until they are over a year old and we feed them wet food and a treat, which seems to encourage them to come back since they LOVE the stuff, when they come in every night and they have ALWAYS come back so I'm not worried.

So cute!  Good thing I don't live near you, or I'd be taking in all the rest of the wee ones, ha haaa.

Turns out he may be deaf so we have a vet appointment set for later this week. If he is deaf he will be an inside only kitty.

He is so cute!  I love his little pink nose!  I'm so glad that he and Atticus seem to get along well.

I'm sorry the poor little guy might be deaf, but I'm sure you could make adjustments for him.  It's none of my business, but I second the suggestion to keep him inside, even if he's not deaf.  He may not wander far, but that wouldn't prevent another critter from creating trouble for him right in your yard.  One of our friends lost a cat to an owl (I had no idea that could happen, but certain owls are large enough to get them apparently).  Our neighbor lost their cat to a coyote (and we don't even live out in the country).

Besides, Atticus needs to keep his napping buddy inside with him so they can snuggle up together whenever they please!  They make such an adorable pair!  Smile

OMG he is gorgeous, sorry he is deaf, I'd keep him inside only.  I have an inside cat we got as a kitten from a shelter, he is now 19 years old and still going strong.

Owls can and will also pick up small dogs, up to 10 pounds or so!  My smallest bichon, Ozzy, was 10 pounds soaking wet, and my vet made a point of telling me to never let Ozzy out in the fenced in back yard alone, for this reason.

Carson will adapt fine if he is deaf; he will rely on sight and vibrations.  You will learn to get his attention by stomping on the floor, lol.  Do let us know what the vet determines!

All my cats are indoor only, they live much longer this way, I don't have the worry of them not coming home and never knowing what happened to them, the vet bills if they do come home injured, and so on.  We have a family of coyotes living in the woods behind our house, they routinely get cats and small dogs in our neighborhood.  That and cars are the big killers.  Other cats are the source of fight / battle wounds of all sorts.  Keep the baby inside, lol!

He seems to really respond to vibrations but not at all to sound. I come in the room and say "hi kitty kitty! Carson!" and a bunch of jibber jabber as well as squeaky kissy noises and he doesn't even look up. I can only wake him up if I tap on the floor next to him or knock on the wall. He also doesn't react to the dogs barking or the other cats growling/hissing at him (I keep him closed off until they get use to him so there is no fights, they see each other through a gate right now), I would at the very least expect him to look the direction to see what the noise is but he is content just doing what he is doing, nothing stops him. He's a very, very happy kitty tho. He is sleeping on my chest purring as I type this. I've never had such a cuddly kitty before. I could get use to this! When he realizes I'm in the room he runs up the stairs to my bed and begs for some cuddles. I love this little guy. He sleeps in bed with Atticus and I every night and will wake me up in the middle of the night when he is kneading my face or belly, its really adorable. I'm head over heels with this guy, I'm so glad I brought him home.

That's one of the cutest things I've ever heard!  Since he can't hear your voice, you can just double up on the cuddling and affection to communicate with him!

I was just thinking . . . since he can feel vibrations, maybe if he's sitting on your chest, he'd "feel your voice" as you talk and breathe in and out.  Or, you could try singing while he's on your chest to see if seems to pick up on it!  You could come up with a repetoire of songs you sing just to him!  Stick out tongue

I remember seeing a movie once where a deaf character knew someone was ringing her doorbell because the lights in her house flicked on and off.  I suppose that might get his attention if you were in a room with artificial lights on and you were near the light switch.  Like Sandie said, you'll have to just stomp around your house a lot!

I'm glad you brought him home, too.  He sounds like a very special kitty!
