Saturday Chatting

    Saturday Chatting

I'm doing some laundry before we go to the office to set up a new computer.  I'm mostly just sitting around while DH does the computer stuff.  Last weekend I got a lot of filing done which was good since I always put that off. I'm taking my book today and hopefully that will help pass the time.

Twister gave me a scare yesterday when he dashed out the front door after a little brown dog who passed by the office sidewalk.  The door had been left ajar by my coworker.  Twister was fine but my heart was pounding out of my chest in fear as I pictured him squished by a car.  In the space of ten seconds I went from terrified, to relieved, to pissed at myself and coworker.  I obviously need to do some brushing up on boundary training with my impulsive little terrier.

Wow.  That would be a heart stopper Jackie!

We have another absolutely divine day today.  I fully intend to enjoy it to the fullest since we're looking at mid 90's and humid sometime next week.  Hot and humid don't do it for me.  Again today the sky is that odd blue that rarely happens, just an absolutely stunning color, no clouds, a gentle breeze, just lovely.

This afternoon we'll go by the Brittish Motor Car Festival just for giggles and grins.  DS needs to get out of the house now and then, and it'll be fun just to wander around and be a tourist for a change.

In the meantime, need to get the next load of wash out on the line...gosh, how dare laundry intrude on our weekends?

TWISTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness he is fine

Holy cow this weather is beyond stunning I want to keep it forever and ever Angel I was up and sitting in our porch about 6:30 with a SWEATSHIRT on - in JUNE! Finally took B for a walk about 7:45 and while walking and taking it all in I checked the temp and it was 57* at 8 am. I mean seriously folks this is NC in June. This sort of day is a treat in April.

Off to do an hour of kayaking in a bit.

Bugsy is in love with the foster pittie pup. I mean really in love, she is one ridiculously sweet dog. My friend who had the boxer Campbell is working on her husband to adopt her Big Smile She's about 6 mos old, walks great on a leash, house and crate trained and happy but submissive not fear submissive, just so happy and sweet.

Selling a few things on Craig's list and need to organize the meet ups

trying to come up with a nice meal for dinner - good weather inspires me LOL

eta Bugsy sez fresh cat poop is yummy Ick! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Jackie - I had a dream a few nights ago that a visiting coworker left the door open and Shane ran out and I was in a total panic. I woke up and could hardly catch my breath so I know how you must've felt. :(

Up early and enjoying the coolness while it lasts. I emailed the trainer about the heat and class today and she said she thought Shane would be okay since we'll be in the shade, so I'll give it a shot. I have some ice bagged up for his water and in the event I need to cool him down. I'm looking forward to the class, so hopefully it'll all be fine.

I have zero energy this morning but I need to get some laundry and cleaning done. I'm pretty sure Shane and I will both need a nap after school today. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

    Glad twister is ok!

I am so incredibly lazy this week I have no idea what my problem is. I didn't go to the gym at all and only rode to work once. I did get some walking kayaking and hiking in but still. I also have to clean up this disaster of a house. My brother wants to go camping again though with my nieces. I might pass so I can be productive, but what fun is productivity? ;p

OMG Twister....please stop turning moms hair grey!  She's old enough already!!   Stick out tongue Glad everything is alright....I'd be worried also.

Kayaking Karen and Julie???  SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!

I'm so beyond lazy this weekend it's insane.  This new job I'm doing REALLY REALLY sucks.  We worked 46 hrs in THREE days...of labor!  I feel slightly ded!  I'm borderline quitting but ...shhhh....nobody knows yet!  The money just isn't worth the work and there's no raises in the near future.  The pay equality SUCKS also so....there ya have it.  I'll likely just go back to painting for the rest of the summer cause the money will be better....but thge work slows and ends basically September/October....but guess what?  That doesn't matter cause after Monday I think I'm going to have some good news about my future endevours!  I don't want to jinx anything so I'll hold my tongue for now....JUST WISH ME SOME GOOD VIBES PLEASE!  Big Smile

Cathy, I've been wondering how Shane's been doing.  How IS he doing lately???

Johnny - it's been forever!!! You definitely need to find something new so you can visit with us all more often. I can't wait to hear about your new endeavor.

Shane is doing awesome. I know we all probably say this about different dogs we've had or maybe about all the dogs we've had but he's really special. He's super fun and loving and makes me smile throughout the day. He's affectionate in the most gentle of ways and he's just velcro enough that it makes working with him really easy. I feel so blessed to have him and try not think too much about his shorter than normal life expectancy.

Hi Johnny -- good to "see" you!  Your work schedule sounds exhausting -- even with great pay, working 46 hours in 3 days is ridiculous!  I hope your new endeavor falls into place -- be sure to keep us posted.  Fingers crossed for you!

Yikes, Twister --- you Mom didn't need a blood pressure check like that!

We're due to reach 80 or so today with plenty of sun, but it's overcast right now.  Cathy, I hope you and Shane enjoy the class without too much overheating!  Kayaking, auto shows . . . lots of fun Saturday activities on tap for everyone.

I'm going to my favorite nursery shortly with my friend.  It specializes in hostas -- they have a zillion of them.  I never knew there were so many varieties -- and every year I cannot resist buying one or two more for our yard.  I have one that's teeny (maybe 4 inches wide) and one that's huge (nearly 4 feet high).  So many different shades of green and leaf textures to choose from!  I also love that they're perennials AND you can divide them over and over -- a worthy landscape investment!

The Tour of Homes starts today, so we may check out a couple on our way home.  I'm looking for carpeting ideas.  It's a nice way to look for paint colors, flooring, etc.  If I won the lottery, I'd re-do my entire kitchen with ideas I see in those homes!

    Happy Saturday to all!

Johnny, great to see you pop in to udate us.Big Smile  Sorry work has been so hard especially if the pay sucks.  Good vibes on your new secret endeavor. Give your pups kisses from me.

Tracy, I love hostas but the snails eat them up so fast that I never buy them.  Going on the Tour of Homes sounds fun.

DH is still transferring stuff from old computer to new and all that sort of thing. So far it's going smoothly.  I've been doing some paperwork in between reading and surfing the net.

True - that can be a problem.  We have a real slug problem here (I've seen some that look like an alien mutant species, they're so big).  I try to choose varieties that are slug resistant, and luckily there are several.  I've learned that hostas with really thick, puckered leaves are far less attractive to slugs and snails than the more delicate leafed varieties.  They must be bitter or tough to chew or otherwise less tasty!

Cathy?  Loosing Mike taught me something that I should have already known.  Life is short and we never know when our last day will be.  Maybe Shane's life will be shorter than you wish, but, its really rare for a life to be LONGER than we wish.  As Mike would say, it's not how long you live, but HOW you live that matters.  Making each day count.

    All so true Glenda!!

Shane does challenge my patience at times though and this morning was one of those times. He gets crazy barking and zooming when I vacuum and I usually put him out. Today I decided to put a kong with some peanut butter in his crate and put him in there. I was in another room and could hear him barking over the sound of the vacuum but knew I needed to ignore him. I turned around a second later and he was standing there. Granted, I'd only latched the top mechanism on the crate but still Super Angry

Tracy, I keep seeing your new avatar and think... who IS that?! hehe

     That is all. Big Smile

Cathy, my first thought when I read this- " I turned around a second later and he was standing there.", was to wonder if was he barking at the vacuum or just standing there as if to say "I let myself out mom" Big Smile   Gabby taught me better than any dog I've ever owned to always check the crate latches and latch both securely.  Surprise

Tracy, I've read about hostas that are less attractive to the slugs but never tried any.  Thanks for the reminder.   Next time I'm in the mood to buy new plants, I'll have to check into those types.

ETA to try and make my first paragraph less confusing but I don't think I did much good.  Thank goodness I don't write for a living. lol

    Lol Shane you smart boy!

Had an awesome time kayaking, even convinced my DH to go and I must not laugh (oh yes I did) he nearly fell out in the first 20 yds hahaha then when I tried to help him get better positioned instead of moving his legs he tried to get up and shift and had another near swim. I was proud of him though because he really wanted to quit but he kept at it for 40 minutes I guess. I stayed out longer as I am trying to build my stamina (mostly my hands) for some really long days out there. In the process I saw a ton of great stuff but was thrilled to see a few osprey and drumroll........... A bald eagle. I tell you what, keep all your fancy stuff, luxury suites and jewels, a couple of hours on the lake in this weather and I could not be happier
